I guess the whole "not being funny is funny" thing is cool, but i didnt laugh once. Steve Carell is perfect for the role, but i still dont see myself tuning in again. thoughts?| Promote this thread! | | anibanging

I liked when Steve Carell talked about the employees being his "chillen" and the black guy just looked at him like "what the hell?". We all know people who say inappropriate and offensive things and have no clue they are being offensive. It's even worse when it's a boss that no one dares to correct. I worry this will become a one-joke show though. Boss says something stupid, awkward pause, disbelieving stares, repeat cycle. | The Goon

After this they go off in their own direction, so it should grow into its own show soon enough. Obviously I haven't seen the NBC version yet, but if it sticks close to the things that made the original such a hit then it can't go far wrong. And Steve Carell is the perfect surrogate David Brent.

'The Office' Does Big Business
NBC's U.S. version of the British comedy hit The Office got off to an auspicious debut Thursday. Facing only so-so competition from CBS's coverage of NCAA basketball, The Office scored a 7.5 rating and a 12 share, beating the numbers for Joey (6.0/10) and The Apprentice (7.2/11), which preceded it, and helping NBC win the night. (Once again E.R. was the network's highest-rated show of the night with a 10.0/17 in the 10:00 p.m. hour.) Fox's special edition of American Idol, necessitated by a voting snafu earlier in the week, was the top-rated show of the night, scoring a 12.1/19, the highest rating the network has scored in the 9:00 p.m. period in seven years. CBS's basketball coverage averaged a 6.9/12. On Friday and Saturday, basketball ratings climbed, putting CBS ahead on both nights -- on Friday with an average 8.1/14 and on Saturday with a 7.3/13.
--- Now the other big test is to see how many of that 7.5/12 will come back for the next episode.

If not, no big loss, as Lost is back (finally), and it will only be a matter of time before they get back to Boston Legal. Besides, with Idol and House, my Tuesday viewing is pretty tied up...

Agreed. I liked The Office's first real outing. It wasn't the BEST, but it was really, really good. Scrubs/Office may prove to be a formidable comedy duo.

The 10 minutes I was able to see of it was better than last week's episode.
If I were playing programmer at NBC, I'd lead it out of Joey and into the Apprentice. Better flow, but that's just my opinion.

I was thinking that it would suck terribly, but it really wasn't all that bad. I got a couple of laughs out of it, and compared to the dreck that passes for sitcoms now, it was really good. I have always liked Scrubs, so this becomes a powerhouse hour of TV on Tuesdays for me. | XPacArmy

Repurposing the episodes on USA
A.) May attract viewers who missed the first-run 2.) May make more money for NBC Uni, increasing the odds the show stays on even if the initial NBC run is low-rated D.) Keeps Walker, Texas Ranger reruns to a minimum
I'll take it.

Ouch. They scored an F- on that test.
From IMDB.com:
No 'Office' Party
NBC had a tough night at The Office Tuesday as its imported sitcom, which had shown promise with a strong debut last Thursday, virtually collapsed in its regular Tuesday-night slot. The sitcom, which received generally positive reviews, came in dead last in the ratings with a 4.1/6, losing to Fox's House, MD, which scored an 11.3/17 (and appears to be a genuine surprise hit for the network), CBS's Amazing Race, which garnered a 7.9/12, and even ABC's lackluster Rodney, which drew a 5.4/8. The top-rated show of the night once again was American Idol, which posted a 15.5/24. Together with House, Idol gave Fox a huge lead over its rivals Tuesday night.
