Why is everybody getting so upset about that comment by Bischoff on Monday? If you noticed, he made the comment and then Trish got pissed off. It's possible this could be the beginning of an angle where Trish and the other Divas try to prove to Bischoff that Women's wrestling DOES have a place. An angle that could try to legitimize the women wrestlers. That's the first thing I thought when that segment played out. If the angle doesn't progress and all we get for the rest of time is Jell-O and Mud and Bra and Panties matches, THEN you can bitch and moan about how Bischoff and the WWE writers "killed" women's wrestling. Until then, give it time and see what happens.

Me personally, I don't care that Bischoff did say that. WWE hires women wrestlers on looks first and wrestling ability second, period. There's two or three women wrestlers I care about (Trish, Molly and sometimes Jazz) and that's it. Period. All the rest of those girls, minus Ivory (WHO!?) are there as eye candy, not to do anything else but look good. Yeah, sure, they trained a few. Hell a few won tough enough (and I DO like Nidia, I think Jamie Noble would be a forgotten afterthought without her, which he kinda' is anyways), but I'm not as entertained by women's matches. Period. They don't do Women's storylines good enough to make me care. Maybe I'm in the minority of the board on this, but I'm in the MAJORITY of the fanbase (as seen through the "We Want Puppies" chants and witnessing live events firsthand). WWE has been ten times more effective utilizing women workers as valetes than they have actual wrestlers.

Not to say their matches aren't good, but as long as the sotrylines revolve aroudn things like who can sleep with Vince, who looks better etc, I won't care (at least not as much as the men's matches).

EDIT: Keep in mind I've tuned in to watch women's wrestling on WCW and WOW (Ugh), and BOTH divisions were utter failures. The money isn't there.

Not to sound like a chauvanist, but when the women come out, I change the channel. No matter how much they try, can't get interested in the women's division.

Just about everything related to WCW was doomed to failure...and WOW was really just so bad that it was good, with the ridiculous gimmicks and such. Man, didn't they film another season of that, or at least part of one? Oh well, the PPV was great, even if it was terrible. I miss WOW.

I think the problem is, the quality of women's wrestling is so much lower than the men, until the women are credible workers, people don't care.

I like women's wrestling, but, c'mon.. the girls the WWE have are average at best.. If they were men with the wrestling skills they have, they wouldn't be employed.

I actually enjoy good women's wrestling, sadly I just rarely get a chance to see it.

Trish, to her credit, has come along tremendously to become an actual credible Wrestler (by male or female) IMO.
Sadly the WWF (In my memory, so going back to about '86) has never really had an actual woman's division.
Sure they had the Women's title for while now and then, but the problem is, they never had much of a female roster. Allundra Blaze (Medusa) could put on a desent match, but how many damn times can you watch her face Bull Nakano. There would be a champion and basically one (and on occasion 2) actual opponents.

They currently have some not bad actual female graplers (Trish, Ivory, Molly), and I've seen a few tapes of some other "Bar" feds that actually had a few women that can wrestle and work a crowd with the mic, so I'd have to say if the WWE wanted to make the commitment to an actual legitmate women's division. And part of the problem with credible women wrestlers is if they have no place to really go and hone their craft, how will they ever do it.
Women's wrestling gets the same respect as Midget's, a nice oddity now and then, but its just a sideshow. (And that's Dumb chick who blew her spots against Trish a few weeks back don't help the case)

Mind you those that might want to see a serious women's wrestling division might be in the minority, and the WWE tends to pander to that whole "Show us your tits" type crowd anyways.
And admittedly the WWE roster is already so overloaded with potentially great male talent that I doubt they'd want to devote a serious amount of airtime to such an endeavour (Raw and Smackdown are 2 hours each, how about half an hour from one of those shows? Just tell Hunter he has to cut out one of his interviews)

Just my opinion of course.

Why is it when you watch Tough Enough, the woman all seem to be able to work good solid matches? At the end of Tough Enough all the girls seem to be at least as good as the guys at working a watchable match. So what happens?

I really think a good part of the problem with women's wrestling stems from a size difference. I do like when good women wrestlers go at it (Lita, Trish, Ivory) but they tend to have matches that more closely compare to heavyweight men wrestling than cruiserweighs. I mean, when a tiny 115lb (or whatever) hits the ropes, it does not have near the effect of a HHH hitting the ropes. The bouceback is just not believable. And the ring seems so much BIGGER for them, I mean, some of the women are barely taller than the top rope. And striking moves, like chops, just do not look as believable.
Women of the nature that the WWE has on its roster would be better suited to work in a different style. The high-flying is fine, but a more acrobatic move-set would produce a better match. Maybe even a touch of martial arts. I am not sure WHAT would have to be incorperated into the match, but I think the BIGGEST thing killing the quality is things like Irish Whips that just do not look believable. That and they keep having "valets" wrestle. I hate it when Tori Wilson or Stacy are booked to wrestle, because wuite frankly, it is obvious that they do not have the athleticism to pull it off....

Stacy does have the athleticism, but she does not the discipline to work a good match. Unfortunately, she is the most over woman in wrestling, so the writers are catering to her and overlooking her lack of wrestling ability.

Pool-Boy, I think that is an EXCELLENT point. The Women need to develop their own unique style, and including martial arts would be a great start.

tori was a martial artist but they never really "let" her do her style. plus they had her in ridiculously high lifts that really limited her mobility. and Ivory puts on a great match but hasn't been on in so long no one remembers her. I even get the feeling that Molly is being told not to go 100% because i know she can do alot more than we've seen out of her lately. it's not so much a question of the ability of the female wrestlers, it's the management/creative afraid to let a women's match show up a stinker like Bradshaw or JustinCredible. Ivory could legit kick X-pacs ass, but wouldn't that be embarrasing?

What athleticism? I don't see it at all. I have no use for Stacy or Dawn Marie. They're not valet's. They're not anything. They don't get any wrestler over. In my opinion Stacy is trash anyways. I can't stand her. Torrie Wilson, though... THAT girl looks good. And she got Maven a little more over, I just hope she can do the same with Kidman. In fact, let Kidman and Maven do a feud together when he gets back.

EDIT: I don't judge anything based on what they show me on Tough Enough. Period. It's too edited. And performing in a garage with the wrestler that tought you how to do those five moves is totally different than going out and working a match with some guy you just met who has a totally different moveset.

Bottom line is that if someone like Drew Barrymore (Drew Barrymore, who won an Oscar for Best Actress!) are working martial stunts and jumps in her movies, to box office success, the WWE cannot have the athletic women they have act like they can only do slippery jello/mud matches. They have to get with the times.

I have also noticed that Trish seems very nervous when she wrestles on TV lately. I guess she must be stressed out or something like that.

Women's wrestling is boring. Trish Stratus, Torrie, Dawn Marie and Stacy Keibler should stick around. Get rid of everyone else. Ivory is like 65 years old. Jazz reminds me of Chyna and Molly is disgusting. Stephanie should start running around in garter belts and thongs also. But thats just my opinion. Kick Lita to the curb, btw.
