Will they still be Wild and Young? Will the Divas Make the Rain Fall?

I admit I have not watched NXT since NXT3 concluded. Well over a year now since NXT: Redemption started, WWE is "re-branding" the show. Aspects of it are unclear, like whether NXT will continue as a wwe.com show, get shuffled off to YouTube, etc. But rather than taping NXT before Smackdown, they will now tape a month's worth of shows at a time.

Like they did yesterday at Full Sail University - with Jim Ross and William Regal on commentary! (pwinsider.com)

A lot of FCW talent I've heard of but haven't seen yet will be on the new NXT like Richie Steamboat, Chris Hero and Seth Rollins so I'm definitely interested in checking it out.

I've been trying to start writing an elegy thread for NXT all morning, but this sums it up really well.

If season 3 was like the "great bad movie" version of a wrestling show, and season 4 was self-aware fun, what NXT turned into starting last summer was ... genuinely good. The only reason NXT continued to exist for most of the last year was to keep the show on the air for the hour they owed their international timeslots, an extended feet-drag to stall until the WWE Network launched. But the people put in charge (creative team newcomer and former Days of our Lives head writer Tom Casiello) and the talent involved (unused prelim guys and FCW lifers), handed down no direction or objective other than "kill time for 40 minutes, indefinitely," really made the best of it.

NXT: Redemption: Redemption was basically the unspoken resurrection of SyFy ECW but with more of a "we're putting on a show!" sense of fun. It was sort of the Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead of WWE, the zany adventures that the wrestlers on WWE's bottom rung have during the rest of the work week in between getting put on TV to get squashed by Ryback or Brodus. NXT got so much more out of its roster than Raw or Impact do -- it made Curt Hawkins and Michael McGillicutty into its main event heels while Raw jobbed out the Miz and Dolph Ziggler. It was also really funny, and it's sad to think that people like Curtis, Bateman, Maxine, Kaitlyn, Hawkins, and Reks will never get to be as naturally funny and personable as they were on this show. Or that wrestlers as talented as Tyson Kidd and Yoshi Tatsu will probably never get to be in a real pro wrestling feud again.

Casiello has been taken off of the new NXT, and the last episode that aired before the overhaul abruptly dropped all of his ongoing storylines, which were longer-term and more consistent than anything on Mondays. It was a sad and disappointing end to what had become one of the most satisfying versions of pro wrestling in the 2010s.

My goodness. After reading that, now I feel kind of like how I felt when The Wire ended and I missed out on it. But unlike The Wire, there will be no means like DVD seasons to get caught up on this apparently special but little-seen year of NXT.

I'm going to guess that NXT becomes the third hour of Raw once they realize "hey, we have to fill an extra hour on Monday now!".

In all seriousness, I'd love to see them rebrand NXT or Superstars to a sort of throwback syndicated shows. Put a mix of taped action and house show footage up there, give us more wrestling and less Raw-based entertainment.

I never knew how fondly I remembered wrestling in the early Saturday evenings until WCW Saturday Night ended.

I feel like they're almost all on YouTube. If we get sick of three hour RAWs down the road, we could create a viewing project.

So Tom Casiello was the man who crafted the Maxine/Bateman/Kaitlyn/Curtis love quadrangle. Hats off to that man, cause that angle brought me back into watching Season 5. This season has become it's own spin-off series to the main shows that I believe caters to the IWC at times. Maybe it's because the viewership is so low and because it's internet only. It gives the writers more room to stretch angles and cultivate characters without Vince breathing down their neck.

You'd think that NXT would be more for the IWC, but then if you go around to different websites (I don't recommend it) any mention of this show is ridiculed and trashed universally. If anything, it appears the IWC by and large takes wrestling even more seriously than they take themselves. This is show that's stupid, but once you accept that, it can be a lot of fun.

It's clear that Vince doesn't even know they're still doing NXT, or maybe is taking his weekly nap during it's filming. Constantly referencing "professional wrestlers", promoting BarbershopWindow.com, and just the craziness of some of their angles.

Highlight for this week, Tyson Kidd doing a toprope moon-sault to the floor.... and BOTH Michael Migigglucullty and Derrick Bateman "Miz'ing" him.

To think this show is getting Jim Ross now, is just more greatness.

Claudio, Hero and Black? Sounds interesting, at least. Maybe, I'll give them one more chance. Besides the stupid challenges, I really liked the first two seasons, but haven't watched regularly since.

I hope someone has the decency to make an NXT tribute/memorial video set to "Tell Me A Lie". Also, it should feature Conor O'Brien's "HeeeeeeEEEEEEEyyyyy" six or seven times.

I get NWA-TNA on my secondary PPV channel every Wednesday night at 8. I almost bought it once, but then decided that my 10 bucks would be better spent on a Booker T starter for Raw Deal.
