http://www.kare11.com/news/article/975912/391/Minn-Senate-vote-clears-Vikings-for-new-stadium

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Vikings are on the brink of getting a new stadium after the state Senate approved a plan that relies heavily on public financing.

Gov. Mark Dayton has said he'll sign the measure, which makes Thursday's Senate approval the final hurdle for the nearly $1 billion stadium. The House passed it overnight.

The team has been chasing a new stadium for nearly a decade. Dayton led the charge this year, fearing the team might leave the state if it didn't get a replacement for the 30-year-old Metrodome.

Under the bill, the team's future in Minnesota would be guaranteed for three decades.

The Vikings would pay 49 percent of construction costs. The public expense is high: $348 million for the state and $150 million for the city of Minneapolis.

A - I don't want them to move. They're nice neighbors.

B - I won't feel confident that this is a done deal until there are shovels in the ground. It seems they've been down this path before (albeit maybe not this far down the path).

Does Jacksonville become the top nominee to go to LA? Can LA get excited for THAT franchise?

The Jags by most accounts have a solid lease and can't walk away that easily. The Rams, on the other hand, can break theirs as soon as 2014 after the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Bureau fails to finance improvements to the Edward Jones Dome placing it within the top 25% of NFL stadiums. An arbitrator would have to rule in the Rams' favor, but I don't see how he wouldn't given the condition of that waste pile. (By most estimates it currently ranks in the bottom 3.125%)

I don't see public support in Mound City for public dollars to pour into the renovations, and more and more people are bracing to wave bye-bye to football again in a couple years. Good riddance.

Considering that there hasn't been football here in almost two decades, at this point LA would get excited for ANY franchise.

Field of Schemes (via Deadspin) have the full breakdown. But this is what really caught my eye...

The Vikings will put in $477 million, plus $327 million over 30 years for operating expenses. The team will get 100% revenue from NFL events, while the city and state will get money from the occasional monster truck rally.

I'm no numbers expert and I certainly don't play one on TV or the internet, but...the taxpayers are footing most of the bill to build this stadium...and the city and state will get ZERO back from the team in return. Meanwhile, the alternative is simply the team packing its bags.

That sounds like white collar extortion to me.

On the contrary, I see the Vikings getting ten (kick-ass, sure) dates and the city and state getting the other 355 days per year. Surely the city and state will see some other events happening there that will be pretty sweet. If I'm the city I'm calling the Wild and the NHL every day about a Winter Classic.

Could just use Target Field. And, as much as LA is a threat to move a team to, what confidence is there that LA can fund and build a stadium?

Welcome home, men of the 2nd Bn, 127th Infantry, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army National Guard! Job well done in Iraq!

There's 2 separate, competing stadium projects in LA right now, and neither's breaking any ground anytime soon.

NFL.com's got a good breakdown.

It's gotta be either the Rams or Chargers. After seeing firsthand last season what a dump the former Qualcomm is, I'm leaning Chargers.

Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...

I've long believed that if the LA stadium goes through that it would be both the Rams and Raiders (assuming that Al Davis had passed, as he did last season) returning. The situation in San Diego, IMO, is much like it was with Minnesota - too much history, too much for the city to lose by letting the team leave - and I foresee a similar outcome, even with the greater amount of obstacles in place, in large part because the NFL LOVES San Diego and is only keeping the Super Bowl away from them because the Q is a subpar venue. (San Diego probably gets 2 Super Bowls a decade at minimum with a new stadium.)

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

If the new Vikings stadium has a retractable roof, you can maybe pencil Minneapolis in for a Wrestlemania sometime this decade.

Mine, too. I would have to drag N8 and 210 out of the hills for that one.
