Heat/Armageddon

Well, gather the torches and the pitchforks, folks...

They don't listen to us 'net fans, you know...we're all dismissed as cynical and negative. That's not what'll change their minds about pushing Triple H and Shawn Michaels as Raw main-eventers.

Matches like tonight's main event are what WILL change their minds. From the sound of things, the Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H match tonight was about as spectacular a failure as any main event could possibly be. Hopefully, if it was as bad as I heard it was, the writers on that side will FINALLY decide to try something different. Sometimes it takes something like this to get a wrestling company to change.

Meanwhile, Kurt Angle played Superman and had a good match with Big Show, and yes, he won the title(ohyeahBrockmighthavehelpedalittle). *drops to knees, raises fists, "WOO!"*

They got it right, Booker T and Goldust won the tag titles AND Booker got his win over Jericho. Good to hear. Meanwhile, Edge vs. A-Train sounded decent until the lame finish.

Benoit vs. Guerrero sounded awesome, but then people would have been disappointed if it WASN't mind-blowing.

Dawn Marie/Al Wilson stuff was pointless.

I'm starting to doubt those rumors about Jeff Hardy being suspended.

Bautista beats Kane with the same finish as last time(Flair runs interference to help Bautista win). Sounds like Kane tried, anyway.

Women's match sounded so-so, didn't get much time.

Not much else to say, seeing as how I got play-by-play from someone online who watched the PPV. Actually sounded like a good show aside from the last match, to be honest.

Each of the women can do three moves in the time HHH does one.

Bookdust and Angle won. Whoo hoo. To his credit, The Big Show had one of his better matches he had working for McMahon.

That main event match was so plodding, I was half-hoping that Molly would run up the ladder like she did in Fear Factor and snatch the title before HHH can say "Screw Chris Jericho". Correction, I was fully hoping.

The divas should not be about T&A, they should be about Kicking A.

The Main Event was like a Sabu match. Spot, rest, rest, spot, rest, setup future spot, rest, spot, repeat.

I wish it would have been a great match like SummerSlam but it simply didn't deliver.

Angle did a decent job with Big Show but Show got totally blown up about two minutes in. I thought he hired a personal trainer? It looks like they're going with Angle & Benoit at the Rumble so that's something to look forward to.

Benoit & Eddy was just a fantastic piece of wrestling. Lots of totally innovative chain wrestling from both.

Booker T and Chris Jericho have awesome chemistry. I hope they stay with the tag thing for a couple months and then peel them off into a single feud for Mania.

Edge & Albert was decent. The finish was the right finish, I guess.

Batista=not ready from primetime. It was kinda fun watching Ric Flair work a match when he's not even in it.

Women's match was a cluster. Victoria forgot the finish so they had to improvise and that wasn't good.

Wow. A report on a show that you didn't see.

How original.

The main was a solid brawl. Good stuff.

WATCH the show before you critique it. There's nothing as stupid as a person saying that a match "Sounded" bad.

I got the play-by-play from someone who's as close to an unbiased observer as I know on here, so at least I have a fairly good idea of how things went. This came from someone who WANTED to like the match, too, and he said it wasn't very good.

This is the end for me on this subject, because this arguement could go on forever.

The point is, not whether or not you got unbiased commentary, it's that that's all you have to go on. Second hand information. That's not enough to write a review on. I heard from some guy that the new Star Trek movie is terrible. He's a fan of Trek. I'll reserve judgement until I can see it myself.

I was expecting the match to be "eh", it was a fun brawl. At least I saw it to critique it.

If your friend wants to come in here and write a post on it great, but please don't go throwing around opinions on shows that you don't watch. It's lame, and it really takes away from your opinion.

The main event was nothing short of awesome. Did everybody miss the psychology on the leg for most of the first match. I thought Shawn did a great job selling the leg, and I thought it was refreshing that Trips didn't work on the back the entire time. The figure four spot was excellent, as was the leg into the trash can. Nobody has even mentioned the flaming 2X4. That swing may have trumped Foley's shot. The cage match was good two because I got to teach my friend about tuning up the band. Don't forget that Flair bled like a motherfucker too! 0.5 muta at least. The ladder match was short, but I don't care. HBK did alright taking the Buh Buh Bump, and managed to scare the crap outta me, which was the intended effect. Good match, four stars in my book.

4 way tag - I was suprised that it was elimination. It should've been one fall so everybody could hit finishers for ten minutes. It may be old, but this match needed it.

Edge v A-Train - I hate DQ's on PPV, but who could you job out in this case?

Big Show really impressed me yet again. Kurt carried the match of course, but Show was impressive. I really expected Brock to turn heel and cost Kurt the match.

Props to Victoria's new muzak.

I concede your point, and I'll wait until I see the show(I'll probably get a tape at some point) to truly pass judgement. You're right, and it would be especially hypocritical of me to bash a show I hadn't seen after what other people have said about wrestling organizations THEY haven't seen.

So, go check other people's reports about what happened at the PPV. All I can say is that, from my friend's account of things, the show was mostly solid but the main event, in his opinion, was a letdown.

It's unfortunate because both guys set high standards for their PPV efforts in the past(not just in the distant past, but as recently as their SummerSlam match which I DID see and which I enjoyed). With both guys slowed down by injuries, there was no way they could live up to the expectations for the match...

Ah well. I didn't know my opinion had any value to BEGIN with...

Okay. I did see Armageddon. (I know elsewhere I said I wouldn't get it for financial reasons, but I had a moment of weakness. Oh well, ramen isn't THAT bad.) And the main event? Blew.

The rest of the card was mostly decent, with a huge weak spot in the middle -- the endless, tiresome, pointless Al/Torrie/Dawn Marie bit, Cena and B-2 imitating Too Cool, and the Kane/Batista match, where Kane once again failed to show any motivation and Batista failed to look like anything more than a bargain-basement Lesnar.

The four-way tag was good, but Storm/Regal and the Dudleyz were eliminated so fast that I feel justified in my earlier questioning of why they were in the match at all. Once they were out, though, a tight little tag match ensued, with everyone getting a chance to shine, but especially Booker and Goldust.

Edge vs. A-Train would have been a good Smackdown semi-main, but as a PPV match, I don't know. They worked together surprisingly well and seemed evenly matched for most of the way, which was good -- I was afraid they'd have Edge do a Spike Dudley bumping act to try to make A-Train seem more impressive. The shitty ending was a mistake, even if Edge did try to make up for it by chairing A-Train into a fine paste. The cheapass DQ-outta-nowhere does nothing for anyone.

Guerrero vs. Benoit? Match of the night. Surprise. They've both had better matches, but this was still a good outing for both, and a good match by their standards is a terrific match by anyone else's.

The women's match was, if nothing else, energetic -- those were some STIFF kicks Jackie was throwing -- but it felt kinda unfocused. Just a lot of scrambling around. It was fun, all three looked good, and the right person won, though.

Angle/Show: Ric Flair might be able to wrestle a broomstick to ***, but tonight Angle proved that he can wrestle a big load to ***. To give the devil his due, Show did try to keep up as best he could, but he got blown up fast as usual, and Angle had to carry him much of the way.

As for that other match: I just have to echo what other people have said. Lazy, plodding, predictable, with none of the freshness or energy they had at Summerslam. A few big bumps don't disguise the fact that most of the match was spent lying around or stumbling back and forth. And I'm disappointed that a flaming barbed wire two-by-four got involved and no one said the name "Mick Foley."

It's unfortunate that two guys who used to be capable of so much have fallen so far. Or maybe *name deleted*'s cool match streak was simply an illusion created by constantly working with those more talented like Foley, Rock, Jericho, Angle, Benoit, and Austin...who knows?

It seems to me, though, that this is the second time this year that an injury to *name deleted* has dragged down a PPV main event(as someone in another thread pointed out)...first the KOTR match with Undertaker(which I DID see and which was absolutely horrible), now this one. Quite frankly, if the guy's gonna get hurt all the time, then he has no business carrying a title belt around. He should drop the belt tomorrow night on Raw, but in all likelyhood he just won't wrestle until the Royal Rumble. Has *name deleted* deteriorated so much that a guy with a crippling back injury has to practically mega-bump himself into a wheelchair to cover for him?

Seriously, to have any credibility on this subject, DON'T admit that you didn't see the match. The main event was awesome. I don't care what the smarks think. I dug it and was way into it the whole match. An all around good PPV.

Hey, that's your opinion, and if you enjoyed the match, more power to you. All I know is that I was told, by someone whose opinion I trust more than anybody else's on here, that the match was a letdown.

And it's not like I had any credibility to lose in the first place.

I did see the match, or at least all I could handle of it before flipping over to the Rams/Cards game on ESPN. The first fall went so insanely slow I was afraid time was going to warp in on itself and I'd be back watching Daunte Culpepper score on the shittiest draw play in history. The second fall was a mediocre cage match in which the most interesting matchup involved the guy who had been on the shelf for four years vs. the 55 yr old semi-retired legend. And the third fall had a great bump, but since I never gave match of the night honors to New Jack matches despite the balcony dives, I think the same applies here.

Question for those who did see the card; did it appear that Kane was being somewhat uncooperative with Batista in their match. It seemed like Batista was having lots of trouble with getting Kane around for moves, and like the whole match got kind of disjointed.

I have nothing to say about the Dawn Marie-Torrie thing that others haven't said. If you enjoyed that segment, I fear you, or you're 12.

There were positives. The crack-addled booking did not foul up the BookerDust victory, which was a nice simple marking out moment. Angle/Big Show wasn't horrible, as Kurt Angle picks up the Ric Flair Broomstick mantle. Eddy and Benoit still rule the whole world, even if the rubes thought two women tepidly making out was the highlight of the evening. And Victoria now has the best entrance music ever, so it's all good.

At the start of the Al/Dawn/Torrie segment, I was hoping for an RNN Injury Update popping up just at the two chicks were about to kiss. I know it would have pissed a lot of people off, but damn it would have been funny. I actually did think this was going to happen, and therefore set myself up for disappointment. Oh well.

I may not have seen it, but from the sound of things, the account I got of the show was right on the money.

Either way, I think I made a mistake trying to return to recapping. This internet bullshit has fucked with my head too much. CRZ had the right idea.

Oh man, you've got us rolling with that one. At least I'll watch the show before trying to offer a smarmy opinion on it. You, on the other hand, seem content to just talk about stuff you haven't seen while including a cute little nickname for HHH that is far more annoying than anything the actual guy has ever done.

There are times a PPV that doesn't look good on paper really surprises you when it airs. Well this wasn't one of those times. The problem was there really was no surpise good match on the card, no one overachived on Sunday, which was too bad. Even the good matches were as good as I'd expect them to be and the matches I thought were going to be average stayed average or fell below

-Bookdust v. Team Chris(tian) v. Dudleyz v. Regal/Storm- Took a while to get started but after the first 2 teams got eliminated in very ugly fashion it really picked up well. The crowd was hurtin for BookDust to win it and got there wish. Very nice start

-Edge vs. A-Train- I was one of the few people who wanted to give Albert a bit of a chance, and I still kind of like him as a mid-carder but this was pretty uneventful. The 7 minutes of nothing. Atleast Edge kicked his ass with the chair even with a lame DQ finish.

-Benoit vs Eddie- Boring chants in the first 2 minutes, god sakes give them a couple of minutes it's BENOIT AND EDDIE you know it's going to get good. What are you, New? When they started heating up the fans got into it more. Good build for the headbutt by Eddie stopping it once and then Benoit after a while going for it again. Real great ending with the crossface and switching sides, Eddie trying to roll out but just ending up in the middle of the ring in a worst position. Match of the night.

-HLA- I called for a RNN run in. I was sure of it. Here comes the kiss and well no RNN. But they decided to give Al Wilson some major heat for stopping it. Because giving a 60 year old father of a diva big time heel heat is much more useful then giving it to a 20 year old up and comer who's been portraying a "my injury is more important then anything on any show" gimmick. But I'm just a smark and they are the hip intune writers

-Batista vs. Kane- Man they were calling their spots loud "flying clothesline" Kane goes on top and guess what a flying clothesline lol. A messed up powerbomb. And my support for Batista is lowering by the minute.

-Victoria v. Jackie v. Trish- Victoria entrance is very cool. Like the song and the video is pretty cool at times. I thought the match was good. It seemed really rushed, they all wanted to get as much stuff in the 4 minute time they had. Stiff as hell kicks by Jackie and Trish. Jackie with the stiff mule kick to Victoria, Trish with her kicks, which she is really perfecting it recently with an upward forceful movement. But I thought they interchanged offense pretty well, didn't think it was bad at all but not amazing like the Trish vs. Victoria matches recently on Raw and Survivor Series.

-Angle v. Big Show- Show you are 500 plus pounds giant of a man PLEASE catch Angle when he moonsaults on you. ATrain comes out NOOO. Angle shocks me and I think the crowd in actually winning this title. This felt as the most uneventful title change ever, I'm happy Angle won but it seems strange having a World Title switch and then going to the another World title match (with a switch).

-HHH vs. HBK- Well I mentioned this match in another thread, it wasn't bad but it wasn't great, it was good. HBk gave a lot of effort, but it seemed to go up and down in my interest level. It didn't have a steady build, HHH limping around in the first minute didn't help either. Good effort but I'd not as good as SurvivorSeries or SummerSlam. But that sure was a crazy HBK bump at the end.

Ok, wait a minute. A-Train vs Shannon Moore: Match on Smackdown A-Train vs Edge: Match on Velocity Since it's the same A-Train in both matches, we can only assume that someone in charge thinks Shannon Moore > Edge.
