I don't know if anyone else caught this, but at work, I thought I saw something on MSNBC's ticker about the LAPD requesting federal troops... to take out their gangs. The commish (IIRC) said they were a threat to national security, too. Are they kidding me?

Sounds like a good idea to me. I may be a bit south of LA... but there are certain parts I do not go anywhere near.
I have always thought that the FBI, or at least the National Guard, should be involved in fighting gangs. I mean these thugs are conducting wars on our streets. The police do not have the power or authority to fight them- only to arrest after a crime has been committed.
SOMETHING drastic has to be done to solve the problem. The communities are not cooperating with the police. Have a better idea (and midnight basketball is NOT the answer!)???
Hell, it worked for the Mafia. Why not gangs?

A war on gangs? Sounds good. The war on Terrorism going so well, and that wildly sucessful War on Drugs. *sigh*

Since the FBI nearly descimated the Mob, they should be able to do something about the gangs that took it's place. let them borrow some stuff from the CIA too. The idea of a Predator drone hovering over South Central and slamming 2 Hellfire missles into an SUV with a bunch of gangbangers just sends chills up and down my spine. That's better than every Bronson-Eastwood-Norris-Seagal movie I've ever seen.

LOL... I love the people who seem to think that the "War on Terror" is going sooooo badly... dammit, what more do you want? Osama is likely dead (the debate about the tape's authenticity aside), we just captured one of his key generals, other Al Quaida members are finding themselves blow the hell up by DRONES. Oh, and despite the remaining Al Quaida's sabre-rattling, this country has not been attacked again. Damn, sounds like it is going pretty damned well to me!
Just because it is on TV each and every day, does not mean it is not happening. Please stop whining about how badly it is going JUST to have something to complain about...
War on Terrorism- good. War on Drugs - patetic war for a dubious cause. There is no comparision. Terrorists attacked our nation, and WE ARE KILLING THEM. Drugs are a different subject entirely.
And hell yeah, lets launch missiles at the gang-banger bastards. I would love to see a drive-by attempt turn into a black smudge on the street....

1. How is unprecendented turnout voter suppression? Like I said, voting machine placement is based on the turnout numbers from the previous election. It's not enough to say that since lines were long, people were disenfranchised.
