*I'll warn you all in advance that this is a bit long-winded, but please allow me to take some of your time, cuz after all, is this NOT a forum for us wrestling fans to discuss our ideas, smark- or kayfabe-wise?

Now maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I think that, storyline wise, this past week on RAW and SmackDown! really helps to illustrate the character of RAW GM, Uncle Eric. If you think about it, Eric Bischoff (the character) is the epitome of the closed-minded alpha-male who has to have everything his way. The world must revolve in the way HE sees fit, and is such that he uses his program, RAW, as his platform to present to the fans the way he chooses to see the world, and it shows in the way he treats people.

For example, he allows only 3 minutes for people to prove their worth to him. If they don't, he resorts to physical violence to assert himself. He also displays his hatred for others in his belief of women's subservience to men (the mud match and his comments about how worthless women's wrestling is), and his lack of respect for the elderly and the physically challenged (Minidust).

Hell, his hatred even extends to WWE. Bischoff, because of his WCW blood (he made it a known fact to the whole world about his WCW heritage in his FIRST ADDRESS to the RAW public) will go to no end to efface the fans' classic conception of RAW and WWE to create his own. He'll do so to the extent that he spits on one of the true legends to WWF fans, Superfly Snuka (his greatest celebrity came in the WWF, despite holding championships in the past in the NWA-- of which, WCW is derived). He takes OUR announce team, Ross-Lawler, and moves them near the Titantron. They aren't even at ringside anymore to call matches. (Ever heard of alienation of people from their labor to strip their humanity, anyone?)

So it would follow then, that homosexuality, to him, is such an abomination that it simply wasn't enough to try to denigrate it by having two lesbians get assaulted on his show RAW. Bisch had to show the whole world how wrong he thought it was by staging such a debacle on SD!-- his competition-- and did his damndest to try to embarrass Stephanie McMahon, the SmackDown! brand, and the SD! fans.

Thus, after this week, not only was Bischoff able to present his warped view of reality to us all, he was also able to slap WWE and all it stands for in the face, which was why Steph, the symbol of all he resents, was attacked.

Whaddya think?

I think that's pretty much dead on, and that sadly Bischoff is the only decent reason to watch Raw these days. He's been AWESOME since returning, and it's a shame that they put on a decent show when he's not in the ring.

The nice thing is we can understand Bischoff's motives; he hasn't been able to be a pure heel because he's so focused on showing up Steph Bear (and Vince, to an extent, since he's so anti-Stamford,) and yet as you describe, he's so obstinately chauvinist and smug that things tend to backfire.

I don't know what to think about the homosexuality part; actually, I think it was a break from character to have the lesbians assaulted. He may look down on women, but that doesn't mean he doesn't want to look AT women who look like that looking at each other longingly. That one has me perplexed.

The best thing is we really haven't seen the old Main Event Face vs Heel Commissioner angle yet, and I hope we don't, although I've no clue what else to do with Bischoff save keeping him on my telly for as long as possible. The whole Raw vs. Smackdown thing won't go anywhere, so maybe you do have to do a WCW vs WWF type thing, with him making Raw more and more like Nitro...but it won't work any better than it did a year ago. They've really painted themselves into a corner with this whole split.

Well, y'know, it really cuts into our ability to discuss if you're going to present something that's highly perceptive, completely correct, thoroughly thought through, & eloquently presented. :-)
Pretty much just leaves us saying, "Yup, yer right, dude."

Egomaniacal alpha male can have all the women he wants, can control them completely (hence controlling every nuance of the scene), & can dispose of them on a whim. He finds the violence on them to be more entertaining than he does the voyeueristic value of watching them or the even the kink value of controlling them.

p.s. Well, jeez, I didn't really, literally mean that nobody else should write anything back!! I thought it was good!
