As CM Punk so eloquently put it two weeks ago, it's conventional wisdom that after Vince steps down (or dies), WWE will be run by Stephanie and Hunter.

It's a publicly-traded company, however-- is it literally a foregone conclusion? Or would there be some kind of vote to decide it, or what? What is the state of WWE's board of directors?

I think less than 20% of WWE stock was available for outside purchase. Vince and family own all or a high percentage of the rest. That's why when the stock was first offered Vinnie was a legitimate billionaire, at least for a little while.

I don't believe anything actually changed at all with regards to power or control over the WWE.

As far as voting control and stuff like that, whoever had it before (just Vince I'm assuming) still has it now. They want to keep shareholders happy, but at the end of the day there's no control or say in how things go.

On a similar topic, has there ever been a reason given why it was Stephanie that became heir apparent instead of Shane? That would piss me off royally if I was in his shoes.

It is with great sadness that I announce my resignation from the WWE, effective January 1, 2010.

I have never even considered a future outside the walls of the WWE. However, sometimes life takes an unexpected turn and while it is the most difficult decision I have ever made, it is time for me to move on.

First and foremost, I would like to thank my father for the incredible education working with him has provided and for giving me the opportunity to play a role in building WWE into the global phenomenon that it is today. I am extremely proud to have been the 4th generation in this business, and I am grateful for everyday I was able to work along side not only my own, but the entire WWE family.

Thank you to all of the WWE Superstars both past and present for your passion, pride and dedication. You are truly the engine of the organization and it has been a pleasure to work with, learn from and get to know all of you. Thank you for the privilege of sharing the stage with you and for allowing me to become but a momentary member of your elite brotherhood. I have so much appreciation for the many sacrifices you endure, both physically and personally, to make this business the success that it is. The respect I have for each of you is immeasurable.

Finally, there are no words to express my gratitude to WWE fans the world over for supporting this company through good times and bad and for your unbridled passion that fuels the Superstars’ performances. I am profoundly grateful to have been able to entertain you both in front of the camera and from behind the scenes. You are the greatest fans in the world.

I will always love this business and will remain a fan forever.

    Shane

Yeah, but the resignation was long after it was clear that he wasn't the heir.

I'd imagine it's a combination of a few factors, Steph being with Triple H, Steph having the writing experience, Shane constantly looking at outside projects like MMA, and other things that would be purely family related and impossible for an outsider be aware of. Also, apparently Shane's big ideas had tendency to be on the crazy side.

Hooch is crazy.

Read it and weep, fella

And here's an article dated June 18, 2001 from latimes.com letting us know what Shane-O is up to now: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2011/06/shane-mcmahon-is-his-own-man.html

Here's a snippet:

Now McMahon, 41, is trying to do for Hollywood what he did for the WWE. Earlier this week his company You on Demand formed a partnership with Warner Bros. to get the entertainment giant's content into China via pay-per-view and video-on-demand cable platforms. You on Demand has access to homes in China through a 20-year pact with China Home Cinema, the pay-television arm of that country's CCTV-6 network. Cable operators can deliver the content into homes. You on Demand has said it expects to have as many as 3 million subscribers this summer.

And here's the part where he talks about leaving WWE:

Up until a few years ago, McMahon was content toiling for his father at WWE. He had been working there professionally since graduating from Boston University -- holding positions in marketing, sales, promotion and production. He even reffed some matches and got in the ring every now and then as "Shane-O-Mac."

Rising high up the executive ranks, McMahon was seen as a potential successor to his father. There was only one problem. "He wasn't going anywhere," he said and laughed.

    [...]

"It was the hardest decision I've ever had to make," McMahon said of his leaving WWE to strike out on his own. "I didn't want to wake up when I was 70 and say, 'I should have done that.'" Telling his father he wanted to leave was "brutal" and now, almost two years later, there remains some residual tension. "It's still hard," he said.

The article is pretty long, so I skipped alot. You should check out the whole thing for yourself. DO IT!

Whats with these McMahon men and their HUGE collars?

Either way, good for Shane. The Wrestling business is a grind, and I am sure that while he loved it, he wanted to be his own man. Glad he was able to do that.

It's almost like royalty. Sitting there waiting for your father to die so you can inherit the company. That's pretty much what Shane was doing.

I still say that QEII is trying outlive her son so she pass the crown right to Prince William.

Am I the only one around here who has Queen Elizabeth II on the top of their wish list for sex partners?

It's not that I find her attractive, I just want THAT story to tell people. Imagine being with a group of friends talking about who you fucked recently; when I say I had sex with the Queen of England... I win. What could possibly top that?

It's all about the story, man. It's like, if a one-legged woman ever comes onto you at the bar, you HAVE to do her. Just so years later you can say "Did I ever tell you about the time I fucked the one-legged girl?"

Alien.

Someone(s) already had the queen. But an alien? You'd (presumably) be the only one to lay (ha!) claim to that.

No dice. Plenty of freaks out near Nevada already claim to have had sex with an alien.

If there's one thing the WWE needs it's more useless T and A. Really, the bigger problem here is Rico. The guy is in his early 40's and hasn't done anything of note in the past year.
