The Hulk's tag line should be "If you like long science movies with boring dialog and a pussy playing the lead role try me!" The main problem with the Hulk is that it is flat out not a good story. Most comics are not good storys its the truth. Spiderman works because deap down its about love. The X-Men work because deap down its about tollerance. The Hulk deap down is about lots of things that did not translate into an intresting picture.
Its about father issues which just didnt get my attention. Nick Nolte did a fine job playing his wacko dad but did i really care? No. Erick Bannas preformence was flat out bland. His soft voice and overall boring deliverly of his lines caused the relationship to fail for me in the movie. Not to be out done was Jennifer Conielly who was truley going through the motions. She didnt seem to care much at all throughtout the whole movie.
Another huge flaw with the brains behind the Hulk is that the Hulk lacks a serrious foe. For the Hulk it is mainly him self he is fighting with and his own mind as he trys to control his split personalities. The movie failed also on this level as the only scean i can recal that involved it was with him at the miror. Another huge problem with the movie for me was the transformation into the Hulk its self. To me it looked like something out of the Nutty Professer and while being the Hulk he looked like Shreq. If looking like a friendly green moster from a childrens movie wasnt bad enough by my count the Hulk killed exactly 1 person! Actually the blast killed that person and the Hulk should not be held responsible for his death. Yes thats right the strongest most violent force in the history of mankind KILLED 1 PERSON! He would swat helocopters and throw tanks but the people would all surivie. If you going to do a moive about a monster dont make him a whimp. Save your 8 bucks and 3 hours the Hulk is a bore.

Uh....yeah.

Daredevil, Spider-Man & Batman are all about guilt. That's what drives the stories.

Superman is about finding a place you fit in, and acceptance. X-Men to a lesser extent, too.

The Hulk is about repression. Everything in the film was SUPPOSED to be quiet and restrained until the moment the Hulk came out, because then Banner STOPPED holding back.

I'd take your opinion more seriously if you. . .well, proofread. And why exactly should kill-count determine the ferocity of a monster?

BTW, I saw 'The Hulk' yesterday, and I loved it. True, it was plodding for the first 30 minutes (roughly), but it picked up fast for the rest of the movie. Definitely ranks above 'The Matrix Reloaded' for my favorite movies this summer.

I thought the character portrayals were great... and the story worked for the Hulk. My problem with the movie was the direction. It was simply horrid. At first, I thought the comic-bookish framing was nice, but then he started just throwing them in anywhere... in places where it really hurt the movie. Then the final battle scene... could it be any darker? I mean, I know it was night and all, but you should at least be able to see what was going on.

Good, but Ang Lee was, surprisingly, the only flop of the movie. Glad I saw it.

I, for one, appreciate the review. I may not dislike it for the same reasons but I'll wait anyway.

Now kills really don't matter to me. After all it is supposed to be for the kids, young and old. But when I played the video game, I just didn't like the feel of it or Hulk's look or nothing, just...cheese. Maybe I'm just old school but I don't care for too much CGI.

Now I have the Onslaught comics (YES! YES!) I can relive what the real Hulk should look like everyday. Right when Jean turned Banner off and the savagery commenced.

It's just, after the Matrix Reloaded, I just don't think I can deal with anymore disappointment. It was so bad, I couldn't talk about it for weeks.

Yeah, Matrix sucked! Made me wanna change my username. If it weren't for the Ghost Twins and the car chase, I wouldn't watch it again. Oh yeah, and the part with Neo's "Hmm...upgrades" comment was cool.

But you know that feeling when you're being intimate with someone and you are abruptly stopped with no explanation? Yep, felt just like that. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, well maybe I would...

By far, the best scene in the movie.

I gotta agree with tshman122's review, and NEO's CGI assessment of the Hulk. When I had seen the trailers for the movie, I thought "too much CGI...I'm not gonna like this." I admit that I had not read many Hulk Comics. So, after one of my friends told me that in the comics, Hulk was supposed to be larger-than-life, rather than Lou Ferrigno-like, I went into the theatre trying to be fair and open-minded about the show. Unfortunately, I felt it was long and boring. The performances of Sam Elliot and Nick Nolte were good. However, Nick Nolte's character and relationship to Bruce Banner was too awkward and confusing for my liking. The Betty character also cryed way, way too often as well. Overall, I was quite disappointed in the Hulk.

Edit: a little bold-ness.

Thank you for thoes who liked the review and yes i do need to work on proofreading. Overall I went into the theater with very high expectations and left 2 and a half hours later confused and disapointed. I never said that kills make a good movie, its just that in this situation it would be reasonable for him to kill at least 1 person dont you think? He would throw tanks for miles and the people would walk out un harmed. As far as the Matrix goes I enjoyed that picture a ton allthough not half as good as the 1st one. Just one mans thoughts.

Here's some advice for everyone. Pick up the new trade paperbacks of the Incredible Hulk series, starting with the Return of the Monster trade. In it, Bruce Banner (as the Hulk) kills one person, a little boy. And now he's on the run from the police & a bunch of suited folks who want Hulk's blood. It's a good read, and continues into the current issues of the series. The whole concept of the Hulk is that he didn't want to be a big monster, but in a way he did. His father was abusive (in the comics). He was always picked on. Betty Ross dated Talbot but liked Banner better, but dated Talbot because he was much more sure of himself. Banner wasn't. Becoming the Hulk allowed Banner to mature and become more self-assured and strong (a bad ass), but also gave him the giant major-league guilt-trip of being a 15 foot monster. Half the time, he couldn't remember what the Hulk did.

Wasn't Betty also married to Talbot at one point, if I remember correctly? (It's late and I'm tired.)

The pragmatic reason no one was heard during the big fight in the desert is because the movie was PG 13. Just like the old days of GI Joe and Cobra, every pilot has to have a parachute.

Personally, while the new Hulk stories have been fine (reading them in the bookstore, not buying monthly), I'd recommend new Hulk readers either go for PAD trades or the Essential phone booths by Stan and Jack.
