From 1bob:

The NWA TNA website has just posted a story reporting that Jeff Jarrett attacked Hulk Hogan and bloodied him up today in Japan. It happened during the Hulkster's post match press conference, after he got a win over Masa Chono at New Japan's Tokyo Dome show. Hogan was talking about never having won the NWA title when Jarrett came into the room and laid him out, leaving him bloody.

I like it. Great way to start their feud (very old school) and the fact that they chose to do it halfway across the world shows me how serious TNA is about making a big splash with Hogan. Good stuff, can't wait to see the footage (of course, if they didn't have the presence of mind to buy the footage and/or film the presser, I take back what I just said.)

In any event, I'm intrigued...

See, take a clue WWE. This is how to make interest for a match. When I heard the Hulkster was going to TNA, I was like, Wow, that's fuckin cool! I really wasn't enthused about the prospect of Hogan/Jarrett, but with Jarret completey "breaking character" and attacking TNA's next new big star, all I can say is yes.

This happens in Japan after Hogan is victorious over Chono, the NWA gets visibility, and I for one, as a disgruntled wrestling fan in America, am overjoyed this happened. Think about this... In Japan, they take their wrestling VERY seriously. Trust me, after talking with many people that are from Japan, or gaijin that have stayed for a number of years, wrestling is NO joke. Some of you wieners may know the significance of puro in Japanese culture.
(Angle wise)And after having Hulk wrestle there for the first time in ten years is huge. But Jeff Jarrett's attack on Hogan is treacherous. And not only by beating Hogan down-- bloodying him, he made a huge statement. He didn't just challenge Hogan, but he disrespected him, and insulted him, and basically sent the message to the Japanese wrestling press, and for those of us in the states that care, he's going to destroy him.

This could be a cool way to re-estabish a legitimacy to wrestling here in the states. Uber-Smarks may balk at this concept, but believe me, if there was a serious push by the Jarretts, Hogan, the NWA, and even some forces in Japan they've been working with, wrestling could get very exciting, and WWE could be in trouble. I can almost sense the aroma of a television deal...

That's who needs the book. Stephen King.

Maybe things would make a little more sense after that.

Wow, Hogan's finally gonna get a job from Jarrett AND pick up an NWA Title in the process? COLOUR ME INTRIGUED! And Russo's there as well-this will be GOLD.

COme on guys, at least be consistent with your bitching. Instead of watching WWE there'll be rechurned WCW 2000 as an alternative. Whoopee shit.

This could either mean:

1. Hogan/Jarrett WILL be for the title and Styles' reign is pretty much dead in the water.

-or-

2. Hogan/Jarrett will fight for a title shot against Styles.

Either way, I don't like the way things are looking. Though I must admit that attacking someone at a Japanese press conference does sound pretty damn cool.

Are you serious?

Think about this... In Japan, they take their wrestling VERY seriously. Trust me, after talking with many people that are from Japan, or gaijin that have stayed for a number of years, wrestling is NO joke.

Could you possibly record an audio file of that so I can tell how INTENSE and MEANING BUSINESS you are? TRUST ME! You been running into Mike Awesome a lot at the airport? Vader sleeping on your couch lately? Your expertise intrigues me, Mr. Tenay! Hey, here's something to think about- HULK HOGAN fought MASA CHONO and then JEFF JARRETT showed up at a press conference and bloodied up Hogan. Yet YOU say wrestling is NO joke.

Jeff Jarrett beat up Hogan after a match. Hogan bladed. Where's the fucking mind-blowing shit about this again? The fact that it was at a press conference?????? OOOOOH!

OSH pretty much hit the nail right on the head. It's Hulk fucking Hogan! Are you guys SERIOUS? On a smiliar point, it's fucking Jeff Jarrett! People have been complaining about how he's basically built himself into the HHH of the promotion (without the belt) and he'll be getting that soon enough so Hogan won't have to have his "dream" fulfilled against AJ Styles, since the Kidman thing went over so well.

Guys, I can understand the frustration with WWE and Dead Kane and Big Show covered in shit and The McMahon Family Variety Hour but you can dress up a turd in any sort of fancy costume you like- it's still a turd, whether Show is covered in them or if a big orange juicy one is lumbering around the ring and STILL WINNING TITLES IN 2003 WITH A FUCKING LEGDROP. (Hey, maybe they'll build the chase for Hogan and it'll take him until 2004!) Jeff Jarrett ain't Ric Flair and even with Flair in 94, this idea SUCKED.

I know everybody wants The Great Huge Thing to happen for TNA, but you do realize that Hogan's going to ruin pretty much everything everybody likes about it, right? Yeah, the X-division will still be around, but you're kidding yourself if you think those guys will still have a chance at being top tier players when the Hulkster rolls into town.

To close and kill any credibility I was trying to establish, lemme quote ya some Scott Keith, BATB94:

...So that makes this an interesting show, because while it was the beginning of an era for WCW where they actually had some mainstream exposure, it was also a larger tradeoff for the cancer that Hogan brought to the previous work ethic displayed there by the people he displaced. Was it worth it in the long run? Well, you donít see WCW around these days, do you? In fact, for anyone else in the future who gets into any kind of argument with one of the remaining WCW lemmings, Iíd recommend pulling that particular trump card out and watching them squirm. Good fun for everyone.

As much as I don't like the fact that Styles is now probably dropping the title to Jarrett on the 22nd (who didn't see THAT coming three months ago?), I think you've gotta make Hogan/Jarrett an NWA title match. They're obviously putting a lot into the promotion of this match, and I'm sure Hogan isn't working cheap...the Hogan match is the selling point, so they need to put everything behind it they can. If Styles defends the title on the undercard the first impression new viewers will have of the NWA title will be that it's not that important, and since one of the ideas behind bringing in Hogan is to shake the small-time image that's not the way you want to portray your championship. I think they should put Styles in there with one or more of their top workers (Raven?) in a high profile number one contender match, but Hogan absolutely has to be in the title match. Either they have a big name champion in Hogan, or the champion (Jarrett) gains extra legitimacy by scoring a win over Hogan. Sucks for Styles, but it's right for business.

I think it's the best thing they can do. Well, maybe not the "best," but how many options do they have? Bringing in Hogan won't save the company, but it will generate a modicum of excitement.

Everyone's frantically seizing on this is because we've run out of options. So we want TNA to do well. I mean, I'm not gonna buy their shows every week, but I'd still like for them to take off, just to provide some variety. It's like community theater. Am I glad that it's there? Sure. But do I regularly attend shows and donate money? No.

Actually, I don't know where I was going with that analogy. TNA is community theater. I think I was trying to hammer home some point about shitty production and people with very little talent. And men with effiminate Southern accents, like Jeff Jarrett.

I think alot of people are missing the point ... I'm all AJ, Raven or whoever to have the TNA strap ... but it's Hogan!!! ... it's about the potential exposure he could bring the promotion ...

And hopefully build them up to a credible #2 promotion so that we can have tons more stuff to bitch about instead of WWE all the time.

Yeah, but that's if Hogan's still a draw. He didn't jump the ratings for Smackdown at all this year when he returned, and the buy rates for No Way Out and Wrestlemania with the attention focused more on him were disappointing.

Then, you add to the fact that his first match back in Japan for nine years drew the lowest attendance ever for New Japan at the Tokyo Dome. And that was against Chono, who's a good draw in his own right.

How many people are going to buy TNA just because of Hogan? They weren't prepared to watch him on free TV, what makes everyone think they'll pay to see him? Especially against guys they've never really heard of before. TNA also runs the risk of alienating their current fan base, which is more internet orientated.

Seems to me there isn't much to gain with this, except for Hogan.

While I really find nothing attractive about Hogan or Jarrett, I do like anything that could bring attention to TNA. Think of it like Tori on Girls Gone Wild, only not quite so pointless.
I doubt mere association with Japan will make wrestling more credible. Dai suke da Nihon. You'd think with our nation being so violent...
With any luck, TNA will have the sense to realize that the sign over the door says *wrestling* Well, it does. Hey, look at how small AJ is. And he has that cute Southern accent. But he wrestles very well. In WWE he would be randomly jobbing to whoever needed a random jobber.
If they want attention, Hogan might bring it to them. If they want to be taken seriously, all they have to do is take themselves seriously.

See ubermonkeys...,

That's the exact kind of balking I was talking about. The idea here is that TNA can get some great exposure if done right. And we all should be willing to wait and see what happens before we end up making some kind of sarcastic-cool guy comments. They mean absolute shit.

The bottom line is this- any, ANY competition on a national scale for Vince is good, even IF the product isn't. Yeah, it will give us more to bitch about... then it may not. And I was speaking in terms of angle. And that's the difference between being willing to buy into an angle and not. Either go along or don't, and if you don't, dont comment on it.

BTW, if you've ever heard people talk about the phenomenon that was Rikidozan, when they got to watch him first hand (like my mom did), and what it meant to people in Japan at the time, you don't need to be a Mr. Tenay, Mr. Monkey. And one MORE thing, gaijin is a Japanese word used to refer to foreigners, not just workers. That is all-- and please, sarcasm doesn't work. It just covers for the lack of intellect.

If that press-confrence beatdown had happened in America, would it still be as big of a deal to you? Because I still dont see how wrestling being so hot in Japan or how serious the Japanese are about their wrestling has anything to do with bringing legitmacy to American wrestling.
