I seem to recall the very first Raw is War had The Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson as the theme song for the show. I think that song was a perfect fit at the time. What happened? Was the WWF getting alot of heat for it and decided to can it to stop the bad press? If they used that song today, there is no way it would generate any controversy. Has society changed, or what?

Does anyone even remember what happened on that show? I know i have it on tape somewhere. I vaguely remember the NOD watching a match from the enterance way, and i think the main event was a tag match. If i remeber, Sid and Vader were somehow involved in it, and I think Undertaker may have had a run in.

First off, they do use "Beautiful People" today. It's the lead in for Smackdown!

Secondly, isn't RAW a little to old to have that be used on it's first episode. I don't pretend to be a Manson historian, but it seems to me that he broke after the WWF started doing it's RAW broadcasts.

I didn't see the very first RAW, but they used whatever RAW theme it is you hear on the various WWF Playstation games [probably something produced in-house] long before they started using "The Beautiful People."

It sounds like you're describing a show from about 1997. NOD=Nation of Domination? They weren't around in January 1993 when RAW debuted. Don't quote me on that, but I'm pretty sure. <-----sarcasm! (Edit)

Also, I don't think Sid and Vader both were hanging around the Fed at that point, while in 1997 Sid and Vader were both there, and Taker had a feud going with Sid, so it would make sense.

I'm not 100 percent sure but i THINK the card was

Yokozuna vs. Koko B. Ware.
The Steiner Brothers vs. The Executioners
Shawn Michaels vs. Max Moon.
The Undertaker vs. Damian Demento.

That's right. The show also had interviews with Razor Ramon and Doink (which resulted in a run-in by Crush, I believe).

Edit: I also remember Bobby Heenan not being let in the building for some reason.

Oy. He said the first Raw is War, people, not Monday Night Raw. They renamed the show to RIW around 1997, and yes, they did use "The Beautiful People" as the theme for it. (For those curious, the song came off his "Antichrist Superstar" album, released in October 1996). I have no idea what happened on that show though.

Also, I think the reason he can use Manson nowadays is that all the parents groups have found some other great evil in society to bitch about. To a degree, Manson has even somewhat been accepted. Hell, they didn't even have anyone protesting his last two shows I went to.

I think people are confusing two episodes here.

Monday Night Raw debuted in January 1993. In the spring of 1997, the show was revamped as "Raw is War" and became a two-hour program every week.

Monday Night Raw had had two-hour episodes here and there, but RiW made it a constant two-hour show. Also, once the show became Raw Is War, lots of cosmetic changes took place to the set.

The TitanTron and ramp were first used. The ringside banners now read "Raw is War" and the ringropes became all red. (Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the ropes used on the first Raw Is War were red-black-red and the ramp to the ring didn't slant down; it was about four feet above the floor the whole way to the ring).

Also, when the show became "Raw Is War," instead of Monday Night Raw, Marilyn Manson's "Beautiful People" WAS the theme song for an episode or two. It eventually got changed to some that sounds more like the Raw theme used now.

I do know about the Manson theme for RAW. The WWF thought it would be cool to use it, then ask permission. Well the record label wanted a ton of cash so they just pulled it after 3 weeks. That is what D. Meltzer says anyway.

I guess i should have been more specific, but was the show from 1993-1997 not called Monday Night Raw. Then some time before Wrestlemania 13 the show got a make over, moved to the 2 hour format and was renamed Raw Is War... am i correct?

Yeah, so far as I remember.

Nice song quote by the way. Question though. Are you quoting Reznor, or Pigface?

Just a question about the first Monday Night RAW. Was the Ric Flair/Mr. Perfect Loser Leaves the WWF match on that, or was it a little later?

Let's see if my memory is working...

I believe the Flair/Perfect loser leaves town match happened on the 3rd RAW. The 2nd RAW was used as a setup for the match.

The main event of the 1st RAW is WAR was Undertaker/Sid v. Vader/Mankind, I think.

I'll bet they mute the crowd reaction to that.

Well I went back and looked at my tape. The week previous to the show i was talking about was a taped show from Berlin, Germany where British Bulldog became the first European Champion ever. This show was simply refered to as Raw.

Then the next week, the show was made over, Manson's Beautiful People was the enterace music, the TitanTron made it's debut. All the chyrons consisted or a flaming oil drum that said Raw Is War on it. Hour one was refered to as RAW and hour two was called Raw Is War. The mic's still were generic with the WWF logo on them, as were the ring aprons. The enterance was a ramp as it is today, however it went all the way to the ring, save for about 2-4 feet. The enterance steps were in the middle of the floor, in front of the apron instead of at the corners.

The card was something like this, (off the top of my head):

1)Sid had an interview in the ring, followed by a confrontation with the Undertaker, and then Sid and Undertaker got into a brawl with Vader and Mankind setting up the main event.
2)Rocky Maivia d. a jobber
3)Some boring ass 6 man mexican match took place here
4)Ahmed Johnson d. jobber, then him and the Legion of Doom had a verbal confrontation with the Nation of Domination
5)Miguel Perzed d. Leif Cassidy, before the match Taz confronted Jerry Lawler and Sabu put himself through a table trying to hit Lawler and Taz.
6)"The Great Debate" Jerry Lawler V. Paul Heyman, this was an awesome segmant.
7)Owen Hart/British Bulldog d. The New Blackjacks
8)Vader/Mankind d. Sid/Undertaker, after Sid turned on Taker and powerbombed him.

Watching this show made me realize that the shorter tv matches are actually a good thing, not a bad thing, in my opinion. The last two matches on this show each spanned one commerical, and they were both horribly boring. The mexican 6 man also spanned a commercial break, but that match would have sucked whether or not it was short. All the other matches, except for the two jobber matches were also lengthy. It would be nice to see more wrestling on RAW but not if it's gonna be like this show was. I would take a show full of 3 minute specials and a 10 minute main event over this show anyday.

The announcer position is different, and I can't help but think that the camera was on the other side of the arena tonight, too. Normally the stage is left, today it was right.
