Everyone acts their asses off, Alec Baldwin of all people nearly steals the movie with his hilarity, and it's probably the best movie I've seen this year. This is right up there with any of Scorsese's classics.
Scene: Mark DeRosa's brain. The year is 2005.
Part of Mark DeRosa's brain: Come on, another position change? One day it's second base, the next day right field, now it's third? Why, I oughta go into Buck's office and throw his talking fish on the floor!
Other part of Mark DeRosa's brain: Hold on, other part of the brain. We're making $500,000 this year. Last year we made $725,000. All for playing a damn kids' game. This is, as they say in Brainland, a no-"us"-er. We're not going to complain.

|  #2 Posted on 7.10.06 1009.03 | Instant Rating: 3.60 | I have never really liked Scorsese, Dicaprio or Nicholson (lately) and yet even I loved this movie, just incredible acting all around. Damon, Wahlberg, Baldwin, Sheen, everybody was great. I was worried for my mother that she would get confused with all the undercover stuff going on but it was pretty easy to understanding and the ending was surprising.

Jack Nicholson is stellar, but Leonardo Dicapiro and Matt Damon also bring it. The secondary cast is also stellar.
I cannot say enough good things about this film.

They need to melt down all of the Oscars and mold them back into one giant one to give to 'The Departed'. So many great performances by a giant ensamble cast and crew. Don't let nerdy internet geek reviews comparing this to the Hong Kong version fool you; The Departed is solid gold.
I really, really love 'Goodfellas'. 'The Departed' is easily on the same level.
If you're on the fence about seeing it, just go. You'll thank me.

| #8 Posted on 9.10.06 0805.53 | Instant Rating: 2.52 | The wife and I caught this Saturday night, and we both really liked it. But I have to say, as good as it was, it was WAY too long. If they trimmed 15-20 minutes, it's a classic. The whole love triangle thing in particular seemed contrived and shoe-horned into the plot. If it was anyone besides Scorsese, I would think the studio realized there were no women in the movie, and forced them to go back and shoot some scenes with a woman. That part just seemed forced. But overall, a very good movie, and great acting across the board. I LOVE Alec Baldwin these days, what a career renaissance he is having.

But there is no surprise there... Alec Baldwin has always done his best work in supporting roles... Should be getting a few Oscars come March.

I've been dissapointed this year by some movies I thought were gonna be good like Ricky Bobby so I was pretty damn happy with this flick. Although I'm not a huge Dicaprio fan, I thought he had the best performance amongst a great cast.

Who was the guy that shot Dicaprio at the end of the movie and was then shot by Damon? Shouldn't Damon have known about him?

1. My guess is it was Leo's, since it ties into that scene from earlier in the film about Damon's impotence.
2. That was the genius of the whole mole operation. Who knows how many people the department had in Frank's operation, or how many people Frank had in the police? That damn Chase Edmunds...I knew he was bad news.
