Is it just me or does anyone else here think(and try to be optomistic here) that the cruiseweight is finally getting a big push in the right direction?

We have Matt Hardy V1 who I can see taking the belt and being Matt Hardy Version 1...the great goofed yet serious heel.

Now we have Rey Mysterio Jr....who's been working with the Cruiserweights and he has a bit of heat with Hardy...not only that but he's hella over.

Can anyone see the conclusions i'm drawing of a classic Wrestlemania match up?

I'd rather see Knoble/Rey for the belt, since (despite the great character) Hardy still isn't anything special in the ring.

Hardy/Rey will probably go down at WM, but I wouldn't call it a true CW match, as Hardy is just a smaller heaveyweight in every aspect.

Yeah, it seems to go Cruiserweights, then Jobber to the Stars, then Heavyweights. Matt and Rey are just moving into the second catagory.

The Cruisers will never be given a fair shake as long as a certain muscle-bounded roid monster who thinks his view of what a wrestler should look like is right is in charge of the company (and for all you guys who seem to scan the site looking for people who bash Triple H and then complain about them doing it: I mean Vince, not Hunter)

I think the cruiserweight division has actually got worse. Yeah, Matt and Rey are great, but like mentioned before I consider them a higher level than that. The real cruiserweights are nowhere to be seen.

They moved Hurricane to Raw just to tag with Kane for two weeks. Noble was given the ball and was carrying well but for some reason they took the belt off him to give it to Kidman who nobody cares about. And part of the reason they did this was for the Nunzio angle, which Noble doesn't even seem to be a part of. Speaking of Nunzio, he seems to be doing the stable thing right now so he won't be fighting for the belt anytime soon. Chavo is in pretty much a permanent tag team now. The only guys that leaves are Kidman and Shannon Moore who are both pretty bland.

You know now that I think about it, they should probably just drop the Cruiserweight Title completely. Just take the four guys that are in the division now (Rey, Kidman, Shannon and now Matt) and make tag teams out of them (Rey/Kidman and Matt/Shannon). Then along with Nunzio and whoever he teams up with and team Noble with Tajiri and you have yourself a great tag division. Besides the tag division is basically a two team division with Team Angle and Los Guerreros now.

Plus, even though i love the cruiserweights, they are kind of looked down upon for being the cruiserweight champion, so giving them chances at the tag team gold which is thought higher of could help them.

I mean think of the match up possibilities with:
Los Guerreros
Mysterio/Kidman
Team Angle
Noble/Tajiri
Nunzio/Palumbo
Matt/Shannon
Cena/???

Also this gives guys like Shannon and Kidman who are good inside of the ring, somebody to carry the outside of the ring activities (ok so Rey isn't GREAT on the mic, but he's not the instant snooze fest that Kidman is)

The following post expresses the opinions of a raving Jerichoholic. He is biased, opinionated and bitter. You have been warned.

Doesn't Cena have Red Dogg, or whatever his name was? Or was he Rodney Mack, brought to Raw because D'Lo got fired and he's the only guy left on the roster who's whiter than Maven but still counts as black?

I'm so confused.

Matt winning the cruiserweight belt would be great - perhaps that'll set up a Mysterio/Hardy match for the belt at WrestleMania, which would be most excellent. They've gone a good job of keeping the belt away from Mysterio to this point, but you figure he's gotta get it SOMEtime. Why not WrestleMania, and why not against an established star like Matt Hardy? Either way, a dose of championship Mattitude would be nothing but awesome.

I think somebody needs a Mattitude adjustment.
It's official - The WWE logo turned upside down becomes the Mattitude symbol.

i have a real problem with the whole cena situation.. i don't know if they made a big deal out of the bull buchanan beatdown by cena and red dogg (i was at the live show and didn't watch it the following thursday so i didn't hear the commentary), but even if they didn't, it seems inexplicable to me that they
1) never really explained who red dogg was, where he came from, or why he is helping out john cena the white rapper.
2) jumped him from smackdown to raw a few weeks later with a new name, a new look, and a new gimmick.

this to me marks a very disturbing trend in wwe character development. i know it's great that we have two autonomous shows now, but i fear that vince is going to start just throwing a wrestler out there on one show, see if he works, and then if he doesn't, just repackaging him and throwing him out on the other show. this should not be allowed. i'd say probably the majority of wwe fans watch both shows, and so this plan is NOT going to work. this is insulting your audience's intelligence worse than i think the wwe has ever done before. at least TRY to make SOME kind of explanation for this.

EDIT: corrected my own grammar. yes, i care.

Sure, maybe it'll be Mysterio/Hardy at Wrestlemania, and maybe Mysterio will even go over. IMO, that is absolutely the worst thing they could do though. Once Mysterio's the champion, who does he fued with? None of the other Cruiserweights even appear to be on the same level as Mysterio. They all get jobbed out to low card heavyweights (yes, I know that happened to Mysterio in his matches with Albert) all the time. He beat Kurt Angle, for god's sakes! If Mysterio wins the title, I see it as a death blow for the Cruiserweight division, just like when Chyna won the Women's Division. The title will eventually disappear, until it comes back in about a year. That's what always happens with the Cruiserweight title.

Poor poor argument. If somebody isn't believable against Mysterio, you MAKE them believable. Mysterio is a cruierweight, and he's the best damn cruiserweight they've got, so they may as well put him up against the people who'll he have his best-and most believable-matches with.

"most-believable" is the best way you could have put it. during that mysterio-albert match, i hoped he would win and actually thought he had a chance to, but at the same time, if i were to imagine it was a real fight, there's no way i would have believed that mysterio was going to win. i mean, as much as we make fun of jim ross calling them "hosses," guys like albert, the undertaker, big show, etc. are going to look unrealistic jobbing to rey mysterio in a singles match unless weapons are heavily involved or there is a great deal of outside interference.

If no one is believable against HHH, you *make* them believable. When has that happened? No, instead, they brought in someone to be believeable, and that went over so well. If they can't do it for the Heavyweight division, why would they do it for the Cruiserweights, which they have shown no sign of caring about.

They don't care about the Cruiserweight division or the Women's division.

Want proof? Click Here for the Light Heavyweight title history. the title really only dates back to 12/7/97, when TAKA won it. Before that, it was
Anyway, in 4 years, it was forgotten 4 times. What I mean by that is that there were 4 times when someone held the title for more than 8 months, which is a sign that it's been forgotten in today's modern age, where titles change every month. For the reference, it was forgotten during the reigns of TAKA, Christian, Dean Malenko's second reign, and X-Pac's second reign. But they care more now, right? The Cruiserweight title is different from the Light-heavyweight title. No. Their biggest problem with both the women's division and the cruiserweight division is that once someone loses the title, they get shunted out and back down to no-name status. The Hurricane won the title, he lost it to Noble, and they don't do anything with him for a while, then suddenly send him to Raw to be a jobber. Noble loses the title, suddenly he can't win anymore. He brings in Nunzio, and all of a sudden, Noble just isn't seen on Smackdown anymore. Nunzio now appears to be leading a stable of Italian wrestlers. Shannon Moore has never been a viable threat. Funaki is a joke. Kidman may be able to hang around in the Cruiserweight division, just because there's nothing else for him to do.

My point, oldschoolhero, is that you seem to think that they actually care about the Cruiserweights. If they did, they'd do what you say. But time has shown that they don't.

I'm still waiting for the Hector Garza-mania that Russo used to talk about on LiveWire making people forget Eddy and Rey-Rey to occur.
The problem with the cruiser title/division is three fold:
1) The most important one, is that Vince doesn't really care about the division.
2) Much like the women's division, the cruiser division only has a few legitimate people in it, thus very quickly the match-ups become redundant.
3) And, unlike the women's division, the cruisers are the ones used to squash to build people up.

The only military skill provided by the French is demonstrating the methods of surrendering.

Again, i will bring up my tag team theory again because of this exact point. Nobody cared about X-Pac when he was Lightweight Champion. UNTIL he started tagging with one of his DX buddies or Kane. Nobody cared about Christian until he teamed with Edge and now Jericho. Nobody cared about Jeff or Matt Hardy winning the cruiserweight title but loved them as a tag team. Same for Scotty/Sexay. The tag team belts are considered so much higher. SO put all the cruiserweights in tag teams, because all of them can get it done in the ring, it would make great tag team action

They should hand the cruiserweights over to Kanyon. Look at what he did to them over in WCW. For a good stretch of about a year and a half, the cruiserweights were the ONLY reason to watch Thunder.

that was also because of the amazingly high quality of cruiserweights/luchadores. rey, psicosis, la parka, juvi, and lots of mexicans i always forgot the names of. they were the ones to watch because they were exciting.

Hmm... well, I'm guessing that's right... after all, it DOES say Cruiserweight first, then JttS. No sign of "Heavyweight" anywhere, but that's probably because no one posted that much yet.

First off, not all cruiserweights have to be high-flyers and vice-versa. Don't do a disservice to people like Jack Brisco etc.

Secondly, they have a ton of candidates if they'd only let them be counted for the division--Cena, Eddy, Chavo, Benjamin etc. Heck, even Angle and Edge are like 15 lbs. over the limit at most.

Third is health. Rey and Tajiri were hurt earlier, that's like 1/2 the contenders.

Fourth is doing something. Kidman and Noble had a good rematch on Velocity, but you rarely see those matches on Smackdown, much less on PPVs especially back to back.

I like the tag idea, but that helps heavyweights too. They should really try another 4-man or something.

And actually, the situation in other promotions isn't much better IMO.
