I also like the continued pseudo breaking of the fourth wall with Cleveland Jr. talking about Peter Griffin having to take several jobs to pay for Loretta's reckless homicide and noting "it's not as funny as it would have been two or three years ago". (Of course, as much as it is to watch Seth MacFarlane make fun of himself, it'd be better to watch him FIX his shows, but that's another topic for another day...) Loved the montage of the multiple versions of Cleveland throughout the world. And the rest of the episode was decent enough, especially the ending with Quagmire asking for his own show.
Well, I can say this much about The Cleveland Show's first season: it was better than American Dad's turrible first season, so that's reason for optimism. The biggest problem this show has is that it hasn't established its own identity. It's essentially Family Guy Lite, right down to the occasional manatee joke. My opinion about the show still hasn't really changed, as I still think the only characters worth anything are Cleveland and Cleveland Jr. The potential for brilliance is there, as when this show was on, it was ON. Cleveland Jr.'s rap battle with Kenny West was pure genius.
This show's still got a lot of potential. Maybe it'll reach it next year, but for right, this season gets a thumbs in the middle. Needs more Bear.

The show had some clunker episodes, but I thought it had a strong end with the last few episodes. The show needs to find a focus which they obviously realize especially in the finale with the Black Stewie comment. I think it takes two seasons to find a show's vibe and considering we are dealing with a spin-off are you surprised its like Family Guy?
As for the episode. I loved it. Cleveland Jr. is the spark of the show. The Boba Fett outfit killed him as well as Rollo threatening to cut Cleveland if he fucked up the inheritance. Cleveland's parents were funny mainly due to their interactions with the other characters. The James Brown thing was amazing. A good end to a rather solid season. The Peter/Quaqmire cameo is the best joke of any the shows this season. |
