Well, the expansion draft is a little over 15 minutes away, so it's our last chance for speculation.

We already know that the Bobcats are obligated to pick Clippers' center Peja Drobnjak (and why the Clippers would let a guy with potential like that go, I don't know-- then again, that's why they're the Clippers.)

There has been much speculation about who the Bobcats are going to select. It seems a given that Sacramento's Gerald Wallace will be headed to Charlotte, in addition to the Pacers' James Jones or Jamison Brewer.

I think it'd be very interesting if the Bobcats were to select former Charlotte Hornets hero Alonzo Mourning from the New Jersey Nets.

Here's an interesting thing-- the Magic and Rockets need the Bobcats' cooperation regarding not selecting certain players in the expansion draft if the T-Mac/Francis trade is gonna go through. The Bobcats could agree not to select any of those guys. In exchange, the Bobcats could bring both Emeka Okafor and Dwight Howard in for workouts, decide which one they want more, and ask Orlando to select the other one.

In essence, if they choose to go that route, the Bobcats could have the de facto #1 pick in the draft, even though they're really picking #2.

Bernie Bickerstaff is one smart guy, lemme tell you. Good of him to follow the example of the rest of the league by fleecing the clueless Clippers.

Thoughts on any of this?

I'm suprised this is on NBA TV tonight and not one of the ESPNs.

ESPN isn't worried about it...they have the full-fledged draft on Thursday night, which sucks...I usually watch the NBA Draft just to see what Barkley will say.

I'm a definite believer that the Finals would've been 100x more fun had Sir Charles, Jet and EJ called it instead of that simp Al Michaels.

Getting back to topic, sadly I don't receive NBA TV but I'm thinking that now would be the time to debut the Bobcats jerseys and other related gear.

I've heard of five of these guys. I'm glad to see they took Fizer, though I wonder if the Bulls had to bribe them for that pick.

Edited for the final lineup:

It's an expansion team. Did you not expect a high factor of suck? Besides, Bernie Bickerstaff himself said he wanted fresh bodies not expensive ones.

It's not a bad strategy...barring a great draft and good luck in the free agent market the Bobcats aren't going to compete for anything but second-worst record next year anyway, so it makes sense to grab the cheapest guys they can get. Granted, they landed themselves a pretty horrible crop of guys, but is it worth paying more for a couple slightly better players so that they only lose 60 games instead of 62?

Usually I applaud teams for building long term, but here why not pick ONE big name player? Just to put some asses in the seats? And not some high school kid. I mean a possible all star player? you wouldnt have to break yourself to have a Jerry Stackhouse and then people would have faith youre building a winner. I understand long term thinking but Charlotte isnt a typical expansion city, Their team just left two years ago and is making the playoffs in another city. I dont think they should be made to wait, and i dont think they WANT to.

I may be in the minority, but as a suffering Bulls fan....WOOOHOO!!! Fizer is gone. I hated cringing everytime he took a shot, and not seeing him in a Bulls uni anymore...makes me very happy...looks like Ben Gordon or Luol Deng will be sporting the red and black this year. Hopefully they work out.

Listening to ESPN News, they were saying the strategy was to only take people who were A) under 30 B) had no more than two years on thier current deals and c) wouldnt hurt them to cut, financially.

The short term goal is to win 20-25 this year, get a decent lottery pick, and do the same the next season, that would give them three GREAT (in theory) players, no long term deals, young talent and lots of cap room.

Quite a few of the players they selected were Restricted Free Agents who became Unrestricted Free Agents who can now negotiate with any & all NBA teams except for the one that left them unprotected. Marcus Fizer is one of these. The Bobcats have a $44m salary cap this year and that stiff Jahidi White is going to account for $5.88m of that. The biggest name in Charlotte this year is going to be either Emeka Okafor or Dwight Howard. The rest will be no-names or good character has-beens.

I think the 'Cats can release White (or anybody they picked) and his salary won't count against their cap. That was the beauty of the Jahidi White pick and why the Suns gave the 'Cats $3 million and a draft pick to insure the pick.

They can release White if they want but it looks like the Bobcats plan on keeping him according to today's Charlotte Observer Click Here (charlotte.com)

The Bobcats did get some actual live bodies as well. Count on Cleveland's Jason Kapono, New Jersey's Tamar Slay, Sacramento's Gerald Wallace and the Los Angeles Lakers' Jamal Sampson to help form this team's young core. Phoenix center Jahidi White will provide the mentoring and toughness Bickerstaff desired.

Just as importantly, White comes to Charlotte with a perk. The Bobcats confirmed the Suns will send a future first-round pick, plus cash, to Charlotte as an inducement to take White's $5.9 million salary next season

The article also hints that Bickerstaff is trying to maneuver for Jameer Nelson as his PG of the future.

Reading some quotes by Bickerstaff, it sounds like he isn't even expecting about 2/3 to make the team.

Seems like this was the exact opposite of the Houston Texans expansion draft.

At least with the baseball expansion draft, there are usually two teams involved, so there is something resembly drama.

God Bless Ronald Reagan, and may he rest in peace...

* * * * * * *

For decades, American had waged a Cold War, and few believed it could possibly end in our own lifetimes. The president was one of those few. And it was the vision and the will of Ronald Reagan that gave hope to the oppressed, shamed the oppressors and ended an evil empire . . . Ronald Reagan was more than a historic figure. He was a providential man who came along just when our nation and the world most needed him.

Fellow Americans, here lies a graceful and a gallant man.
- Dick Cheney, 6/9/2004

Reagan had a rare and prized gift called leadership, that ineffable and sometimes magical quality that sets some men and women apart so that millions will follow them as they conjure up grand visions and invite their countrymen to dream big and exciting dreams.-Brian Mulroney, 6/11/2004

and now I see where Howard has refused to workout for the Bobcats - could that #2 pick be on the move again ? Maybe to Atlanta for the #6 and #17 ?

Well if so, it's not 'cause of Howard. He's reportedly going to be selected by the Magic at #1. Okafor - get ready for Charlotte!
