I'm not sure if this belongs here in this forum or not , but did anyone see Primetime Thursday - The Central Park Jogger on ABC tonight ? Myself , I think the 5 teens raped the woman also . I can see their testimonies being coerced , but everyone of them said they did it .

Anyone have any opinions on this ?

Yes.

DNA evidence and a confession from someone else pretty much prove that the confessions were coerced. Don't be naive and think that cops never get innocent people (or people that are guilty of different offenses) to admit to a crime they didn't commit.

Cops can get (dumb) people to say a lot of things that they shouldn't.

What are you gonna say if the cops pull you in and shout at you? "Did you do it?" "Do what?" "The crime! Did you do it! Admit that you did it and we'll let you off easy!" "Uh...okay. I did it." "You killed that woman?" "What? NO!" "You just admitted it!" "I robbed a bank, I didn't kill anybody!" "You robbed a bank, too? Holy Christ!"

Exactly how many times has this happened to you again?

No , I'm not so naive to think confessions aren't coerced , but come on , all 5 of them said they did it . I know there wasn't any physical evidence linking them to the crime , but ALL 5 of them confessed . If people are that dumb to confess to a crime that they didn't commit , especially when it comes to rape and attempted murder , then they should be locked up because they aren't smart enough to function in society !
I guess my main thing is that their records shouldn't be expunged ( which is what they are wanting )and they shouldn't seek any compensation just for the fact of their confessions .

This may be nitpicky, but only 4 of them confessed.

I think they probably didn't do it (never underestimate the pressure of cops to wrap up a high-profile as quick as possible), but they sure should have served that time, considering they all did admit doing plenty of other bad stuff that night (like beating up homeless people. Geez.)

If you think all stupid teenagers should be put in jail, we'd have 3 high schools left in the country.

Just my opinion, of course, but police officers can also get not-so-dumb people to say things that they shouldn't. With that in mind, I'd like to offer to anyone reading this post the following free advice (should you ever find yourself under arrest):

1) You have a right to remain silent. Use it.

2) No matter how often they may say it, they will not go easier on you if you talk.

3) If for some reason you feel compelled to speak, then your only response to any question should be, "Ask my lawyer."

Of course, if your interrogators should suddenly decide that they're going to treat you like Abner Louima, then I recommend at that point that you use your own best judgement.

Here's the thing though. If one, just one, of them is stupid enough to confess, then the next guy hears "we already know you're involved, you're buddy confessed" And then we move from there. I would actually think that if you could get 1 it would be easy to get all 5.

Marty doesn't need surgery. This is a great day. I almost feel like I can say, I don't care that the Steelers lost. Again.
