Steinbrenner's quote:
"Enough is enough. I am bitterly disappointed as I'm sure all Yankee fans are by the lack of performance by our team," Steinbrenner said in a statement issued immediately after the game.

"It is unbelievable to me that the highest-paid team in baseball would start the season in such a deep funk. They are not playing like true Yankees. They have the talent to win and they are not winning. I expect Joe Torre, his complete coaching staff and the team to turn this around."

I love to see the Steinbrenner sizzle! This kind of stuff adds fun to the start of the summer.

Does anyone think George would have sounded off this early if the Angels were the team coming up on the Yankee schedule rather than Tampa? They get their two free wins, and George looks like a motivational genius. As much as people hate George, he will be missed when he's gone. Rather than having a raving lunatic (meant in a nice way), the Yankees will be run by some faceless conglomorate, depriving those who beat the Yankees of the joy of seeing George blow a gasket.
Listening to some of the games against Baltimore, when Sterling's annoying partner is claiming the bullpen has flaws, you know things aren't going well for the Yankees. The 5 under point should be the time for the first 'Joe Torre has been a good manager for the Yankees for a decade, but maybe they need a new voice to guide them' stories to appear.
The only think that keeps me from being happy about the Yankees slow start is them being 8-11 with three against the Oakland Big 3 last season. They came out of that series 11-11 and played .800 ball for 3 months.

I would like to point out that the ORIOLES BEAT THE EVERLOVING HELL OUT OF THE YANKEES AND ALL REJOICED!!!!!!!!! :)

I complained to another Liberal friend about some of the Left’s tone concerning the 2004 elections. I thought it insulting to hear those “red state” voters caricatured as red-necked rubes. My friend asked, “Well, don’t you think that people who live in large urban areas, who travel and read and speak other languages are better able to make informed choices?” It turns out it is superiority, not familiarity, which breeds contempt. - Pat Sajak

Nothing makes me happier in baseball than seeing the Yankees lose. I think it even takes precedent over the White Sox ever winning, since I'm a realist. Shit, it's been about 5 years since they last won a title. That is a beautiful thing.

Yes, perhaps this is the year my early season hopes are high for a reason.

This might be the only time we can brag about this, but 12 games in, the former Expos have twice the wins of The Evil Empire. Priceless.

Careful, Zeruel, you don't want to tempt the wrath of the whatever from high atop the thing. Now go outside, turn around three times and spit. Hee.

I for one would be happy to see the Yankees miss the playoffs entirely, but realistically they'll probably win the division again, only to get bounced by the Red Sox once more in the ALCS. And I'm happy with that, too.

Randy Johnson. You were brought into the stripes so you could get a shot at the record books permenently. Take it.

Uh, does his World Series MVP, no-hitter, perfect game and thousands of strikeouts suddenly not matter?

So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopkeeper and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really, but sure enough I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.--- Del Preston

...

I thought I had a reply to that, but nothing seems appropriate.

Yes, but as sure as the leaves turn in autumn, and the Dolphins collapse around Hanukkah, Steinbrenner will inevitably blow up the day before the Yankees play some pissant glorified farm team. (Sorry, Tampa.)

Even though it's still early, I really don't see this being the year that the Yankees break their "streak" of not winning the World Series.

For one thing, I really think that rotation is gonna be subpar. Johnson pitched well last year, but he's 41, and with each passing year, you have to believe that the chances of him pitching well continue to decrease. You've really got to think that either this year of next year is the end of the line for him. Then you have Brown. He might still be a good pitcher when he's healthy, but he's way too injured to make an impact. Jaret Wright and Carl Pavano are fine back end starters, but were overpaid. Pavano may have a future, but still, he's only had one good year. Even Mussina has fought injuries and pitched relatively poorly in the last year. The offense is still fine, but I don't think that it's that much better than Boston's offense, or even, *gasp*, that of the Orioles. And they have to be concerned, at least a little, with how Rivera pitched against Boston. Plus, the rest of the pen is filled with nobodies (Tanyon Sturtze?)

So, in conclusion, when the Yankees win 102 games and George drops another 20 million to acquire someone in July, feel free to quote my post and call me a a know-nothing jackass. :)
