I've seen a few posts commenting on how there was no big bump in tonight's HITC match. But I have to wonder -- was this really so bad?

The match was pretty solid, I thought. Taker did a lousy job of selling the broken hand, but he gave one of the most impressive bladejobs I've ever seen. The match was brutal, with even Heyman ending up blading, and he never even entered the cell!

Plus, you have to consider this from the WWE's point of view. They're currently suffering from a huge rash of injuries. Bob Holly and Randy Orton are the two latest additions. Jericho commented before his HITC with HHH that the days of the big bumps were gone, and that they wanted to make the Cell into a brutal match where the opponents beat the hell out of each other, rather than a highspot match, because they don't want anyone else to end up on the disabled list.

So would you say that the lack of a big bump was really that bad?

Well, when I was watching it, I kept looking at my watch, wondering when the big bump would occur. However, when it was over, I certainly didn't feel like I hadn't gotten my entertainment-value-worth because there was no big bump. I thought it was a pretty good match, actually. Which means poor Bossman still is part of the worst HIAC ever.

I think they made up for it with the juicey juice. Plus they do need to get away from having people expect a big bump, which they started with Jericho/HHH. Plus if anyone was taking the bump it would've been Matt. But an F5 through the cage would've been cool.

It's all because of guys like HBK, and Foley...face it, without the BIG BUMP, the HIAC is just a bigger cage match, with a roof on it. Except the name is supposedly more intimidating (especially when it's repeated Max Headroom style,"HELL(Hell)!IN A CELL!(Cell)(hell in a cell!)...
Of course, since there aren't any more big bumps to be expected from it, one logical assumption is the physical state of the genre: perhaps we WILL see the triple-cage from WCW on our TV's sooner rather than later.
Now the only question is: How do we get our money back from the Matt Hardy Memorial Fund???

I was pleasantly surprised to see the cage serve it's original purpose, to keep seconds from interfering in the match. No camera men were involved, the ref was almost non-existant, Screaming Paulie only got involved by getting punked thru the cage, and just violent brutality on the part of the champ.

Certainly not the best HITC, (Shawn/Taker) but this was very good in its own way. Not that I don't have the Mattitude, but I was glad he was nowhere to be seen during this. After last month's debacle, an old-school beating of the dead man was in order and that's what we got.

Brock, kills legends dead.

Works for me.

Agreed. I didn't miss the bump because the bloody brawl was SICK. Did Taker blade with a razor or did he use a pitchfork? Geez. I think he may have surpassed Mutah with the faucet of blood thing. Yikes.

I'd call getting smoked in the head with a set of stairs a "big bump", personally. Are you that wasn't hardway? There was just WAY too much blood to automatically assume it was a blade. Either way, it was pretty crazy.

I think somebody needs a Mattidude adjustment.

To the best I can tell, Taker *did* blade, but then Brock managed to bust him open much wider with the *STEEL* steps outside the ring.

EDIT: Proofread THEN post, Fuzzy.

I think the money was already transferred into the Jeff Hardy Hanky Fund.

Considering the length of the WWE's disabled list these days, from what I read, last night's match was a good tradeoff.

Scott Keith, in one of his few praising comments for Taker in the last decade, rated this one at 1.2 Muta -- a new record! It was the "Dripping blood into Brock's mouth" bit that set it apart. Ugh.

Of course, he also took this one apart for Taker's amazingly bad selling of the "shattered right hand." Painkillers or no, there's no way he should have been able to deliver the Last Ride or especially the chokeslam to Brock last night.

I had mixed feelings about the HIC match. I give big ups to both guys for blading (although I suspect heyman may have been a sponge job). But I disliked how psychology of the hand turns into nothing at the end. Also, up until the stairs were used I was getting kind of bored with the same "thorw the guy into the cage" move.

And like someone else said - if UT could've pinned Lesnar outside of the ring, how does Lesnar later save himself from being by grabbing the ropes?

Because the ropes have magical and mystical powers. Why in No DQ matches do the refs make wrestlers break holds when the ropes are grabbed? It is one of the mysteries of life, like why Bossman continually gets a job in the WWF/E.
