Exactly what it says on the tin: The Beatles: Rock Band, a game that was announced six months ago, now has a release date and some more information.
It will release on Wednesday, September 9-- 9/9/09-- for PlayStation 3, XBox 360 and Wii (the latter, it had been my previous understanding, was originally not going to get the game).
The game will run $59.99 for the standalone game (presumably the standard ten dollars cheaper for Wii, but that's not what it says); $99.99 for the standalone with guitars, and $249.99 for the limited edition premium bundle.
The number of master tracks on the disc, 45, is based on information that's six months old, so it could be more, who knows. And it's going to have songs spread out from their entire 1961-69 tenure with EMI Records.
Sign me up, baby.

I'm confused. I'm happy for this game and all, but didn't Harmonix swear up and down that the Beatles game wasn't going to be part of the Rock Band franchise?

And, what's the problem with it, anyway? Am I wrong or is the ONLY downside the fact that you won't be able to download individual songs for 1.99/ea, but then that is mitigated by the fact that you get all 45 songs at a much cheaper rate, just like the AC/DC track pack.

I've played all the Rock Band games but never owned them. Can someone explain a few things? The instruments this game comes with, are they the same as the normal Rock Band instruments? $250 for the game with instruments seems like a lot, is this standard for a Rock Band game?
The last Rock Band kit sold for $189. The Beatles set is supposed to contain custom instruments modeled after instruments used by the individual Beatles. I have no idea why that constitutes a $60 price hike.

I suspect that is because they are figuring that the average person who would buy Rock Band: the Beatles and didn't already own the Rock Band instruments is some middle-aged dude who would happily part with the extra $60 to be able to play the songs of his wasted youth.

Well, THAT killed a half-hour of a monday. Time to go listen to some music.
Are there really enough Beatles Guys to make this work?
I mean, I have known like 2 maybe 3 people who this completely caters to, and to be honest they aren't exactly video console people. So we're not just talking the hefty price tag on the game, but a console to go with it.

There's no way I'd bother buying the pretty instruments, but if they let me copy the songs into Rock Band 2 (like you can with the songs from the first Rock Band or the AC/DC Track Pack), I'll definitely buy the game.
