Yeah. As fun as the game was to watch, part of me lost enjoyment in the fact that I was paranoid in having 2002 happen all over again. Still, some great plays at the plate made this one of the better A.S. games to watch in years. | thecubsfan

Game should've been over in the 11th. Tejada did an incredible job hoodwinking that umpire into believing he actually tagged Kinsler on that stolen base. Right call there meant Young would've won the game four innings earlier.
Still, tremendous game.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. 1 - The tag was first made on the lower leg, so Navarro was dead at the plate.
2 - I don't recall seeing Bud Selig in either dugout yanking players out of the game left and right without keeping a starting pitcher in reserve just in case the game went into extra innings. Why, exactly, is that his fault? | Joseph Ryder

Exactly...though it is unclear how responsible Selig is for the current state of Little League-esque All-Star games where everyone's guaranteed some PT. MLB wants it both ways...they want it to "count" but the managers still manage the game like it's a rec league softball game. I don't care which direction they choose, but they need to pick one. If it truly counts, Dioner Navarro wouldn't get 2.5 times more plate appearances than Joe Mauer (who would have scored standing up in the 11th), Albert Pujols wouldn't be benched...ever, and there'd be no using 5 starters in the first 6 IP while crossing your fingers it doesn't go to extras.

Francona did say he talked to MLB officials during extra innings (seemingly multiple times.) I think both managers were specifically told Selig would not was not willing to let this game end in a tie, regardless of who was pitching.

Imagine if the AL had the players they had at the end of the game while the NL still had Chipper/Pujols/Berkman/Holliday in a row. I was disappointed that Hurdle didn't do this. He even said before the game that Pujols would bat 6 times if they needed him to. I don't mind that Wright took his place but why is Wright at DH while Christian Guzman is at third?
Also, if pitchers that pitch on Sunday are going to be held back and possibly not pitch then they need to be taken off the team and replaced by somebody else. Even with all the pitchers used they could've gone another 2 or 3 innings if Kazmir and Webb weren't limited because of pitching on Sunday.

They had apparently had position players to pitch in the works.
Fox did hang around a bit for Rivera's entrance... one nice thing was that they shut up and just let the TV audience listen to the crowd cheering. Mo was almost to the infield when they cut away for commercial. And that strikeout/throwout was beautiful. The crowd going nuts for Mo made that game for me.
