I understand some of you are not religous here. The following in this post is has content that some may not believe in.
This is not a thread meant for arguements, not a thread meant for left vs right. and not a thread for bashing anything (or anyone). This is a thread (placed in politics because of this man's impact on politics) is about appreciation for what he's done. Please remember this.
It's year #25 for the man now know as The Holy Father, Pope John Paul II. Over the course of those years, he's done many great things, some of which I can't even think about doing myself. Going to Cuba in frotn of Fidel saying that communism isn't right. Defying the Soviet Union, knowing he risked his life doing so. Meeting the man who shot him. Helping heal the wounds of time. Human rights being fought for.
Scholar, athlete, actor, writer, and above all else, a solid man whom places others before himself. He's a hero of mine, and I pray to God that all goes well for him.
Happy anniversary Vicar of Christ. God bless you, and may our Mother Mary intercede for you.
Pointing out some human fraility or disagreement is not the same thing as starting an argument. I am not Catholic but I admire his attempts at creating a catholic Christian community. He has reached out to younger disaffected members of his church and made it clear that to be a Catholic requires something from the believer. He has rightly stated that being a discuple is not convenient and easy but requires work and sacrifice.
I don't agree with his positions on celibacy (marriage) in the priesthood or birth control but if you are a member of the church it's not like it's a surprise. He is a man of peace and brotherhood and will be hard to replace.
