I don't think you can really write anyone off until after Talladega, unless they get like 300 points behind before then. Talladega is a crap-shoot that coul easily cost a driver 100 points while minding his own business, then they will have six races remaining. We've seen guys (OK, just Jimmie Johnson) make up 200 points over those last six races, though.

EDIT: Jeff Gordon's not "laying low". He and his crew hate the COT and it hates them back. I'd be really surprised if he was in the mix for the entire Chase.

Well, Guess who got the pole this week in Dover? At least he(J.Gordon) is making some progress now.

And the destruction of Kyle Busch's SPRINT CUP hopes continues. Man, that guy's brilliant, but what the hell? He better win the next couple of races to get back into contention for the cup.

Hell of a win for Biffle, though.

That was a fantastic race. The final 25 laps were about as good as NASCAR gets.

I feel bad for Kyle Busch because neither of what happened during the last two races is his fault. However, it's worth pointing out, I think, that without the Chase Kyle still would have lost his points lead to Carl Edwards yesterday.

Dover was a great race for Roush, terrible for Gibbs, and eh for all the others in between. I guess that because he hadn't been in the chase since '05, I had forgotten how good Biffle could be in the chase. And he still has some of his best tracks ahead (Kansas, Atlanta, Homestead). Jimmie is still my pick, but he has to make something happen by Charlotte. Otherwise, it may become a two man race with Edwards and Biffle.

As for Kyle, *NOW'S* the time to panic. He's got great talent, but that deficit is going to be very hard to make up. He would to average 30 points (at least 3-4 positions) over every other chase driver every race just to have a chance going into Homestead. he can win a couple of more races, but I don't see him coming back into contention.

Well, he finished 7th, but I don't call it progress. In fact, I'm thinking more and more that he is going to go winless for the whole year. That he had the pole and was never a threat in the race after the halfway point was surprising, but kind of par for the course for the year. His team is good enough to consisently get top-10 finishes, but they need a big run at some point. Dover may have been their last really good chance to get it and they couldn't, so I don't see Gordon having a real shot at this point in the chase for the cup.

That last race was like a well booked wrestling match. Ha

Well it sure did not take long for J.J. to find the top. Notice Jeff Gordon slowly moving up. Way to early to crown J.J.

Memo to Tony Stewart.... Please Quit, Start over Next season.

JJ, Carl, and Biff finish 1-2-3. Next week still looms very large, but if they can all get through Talladega equally (whether they all wreck or all finish) it sure looks like those three guys are going to be going at it for the next two months.

What the heck is going on with Gibbs and with Junior's car? The mess the JGR boys are in is kind of overshadowing the fact that the 88 teams has been kind of falling apart the last couple of weeks.

Junior rules, though. "Is this a three-man race?" "Hell no, unless you're saying I'm one of the three." Great answer, but, no.

Tony tried to wreck Vickers and ended up taking himself out. At least that solved the pit road issue they had yesterday.

The definition of SPONANEOUS COMBUSTION: Kyle Busch's 2008 NASCAR Chase campaign. I swear, he had an incredible season, but the Chase has been nothing short of a disaster.

I like Tony Stewart. I would love to see Stewart win at least one more race for his soon-to-be-former team.

I'm really not a fan of JJ, Gordon, or Dale Jr...so I'm rooting for Carl Edwards to win it this year, though I think the new dark horse (Kyle Busch) may still be able to pull something out of his ass and salvage at least a top five finish.

Well, Gibbs racing is totally done at this point. I don't even see Stewart coming close to winning now; this was, IMO, his last great chance for a victory this season.

The scary thing about Jimmie Johnson is that while I had him as the favorite, I didn't think he would start to win until Charlotte or Martinsville. As awesome as Biffle and Edwards have been in the chase, the way JJ has been running the last five races (1st, 1st, 2nd, 5th, 1st) and with his best tracks coming up, this chase could become a blowout very quickly. Still, there have been some exciting finishes the last two races, so I hope the chase stays close and doesn't become a one-man show.

That's some hatin' for ya. Danica's improving. She had her best season this year, by far, and it WAS her first season on a top-flight IRL team. She outpaced Buddy Rice in their last year at RLR together. She was the fastest Panoz at Indy in '06.
