Too much NBA...it's time for some interesting basketball!

So, Duke is #2 in the country. No real surprise there. But what the hell is up with Georgia Tech? 11-0? #3 in the country? Where did these guys come from?

Wake Forest and UNC are in the top 10, FSU and Maryland have both been regularly ranked, NC State is getting votes, Virginia is 9-1...

Now I don't usually follow the college game too closely until the new year, but for any of the hardcores out there...is this for real? Are there really that many powers in the ACC this year? I mean, I'm a longtime Duke fan, I know that's traditionally a powerful conference, but I can't ever remember seeing it this strong.

For any of the hardcores out there...is this for real?

And if so, how do you feel if you're Boston College and have this to look forward to next year?

This is a basketball conference. It's really that simple. Sure some teams have their ups and downs, (Carolina just had their first in a couple decades) but we are dedicated to basketball. Duke has lost to Florida State the last two years running down in Florida. Hell, Clemson would make a decent mid-major, but they're doomed because they sit in the bottom of the ACC. BC, Miami, and Virginia Tech are never going to see anything above the NIT (and probably not even that). It's actually really sad to see the end of our home-and-home conference schedual. Anyway, this IS where all of basketball comes from. Plenty of places have great programs (Kentucky, Kansas, Arizona) but there is nothing like the ACC.

Can you tell I like it here?

-Jag

PS I hate you Roy Williams. I hate you Dick Baddour. Get the hell away from my team you bastards. I hope Carolina loses the next 20 games.

PPS And a big, "Fuck you!" to all you Duke fans. Duke sucks.

Go WAKE!

That's not what the rankings say, smart guy!

Just because the only player that could lead the Heels to a national championship in the last fifteen years was Chris Webber, there's no need for such green hostility.

Is this the same Chris Webber who played for Michigan, or am I getting my "people calling timeouts in big games when their team doesn't have one" confused?

Anyway, can't believe Tech lost to Georgia... thought they'd be on the bottom of the SEC East, but oh well.

The ACC would be more of a basketball power if we weren't adding deadweights Miami and Virginia Tech next year....

Well Georgia probably is still going to finish last in the SEC East, but that just shows how great the SEC is that the worst team can beat #3 Georgia Tech, becasue the SEC rules!

Ok ok, I'm just kidding, not even my SEC bias is going to say that the SEC is better than the ACC, I think you can chalk the Georgia win up to it being a rivalry game and being in Athens. I haven't watched any ACC games yet to know how many of them are for real but I'm sure we'll get plenty of chances to see them play in the ACC conference games.

As a Big East fan, I greatly appreciate the ACC taking those 2 dregs away from us (3 once BC does its usual point-shaving type scandal they've been known to throw every decade). It'll be much nicer on those 10 degree nights to go out to see Louisville or Marquette in basketball than those exciting Hokies of Virginia Tech. Now, if only the ACC could take the State University of New Jersey off our hands, the Big East would have a truly dominant basketball conference.
And remember, watch the Ryan Gomes Player of the Year campaign continue against Texas on ESPN Monday Night.

Actually redsoxnation, Rutgers is one of the more entertaining teams in the Big East, not to mention one of the tougher teams to play on the road. They defend their homecourt pretty damn well, and at the very least make all the good teams sweat when they have to play there...get rid of the crumbling institution that is St. John's, or the really crappy Georgetown Hoyas. It really doesnt matter anyway, everyone knows Pitt's going to run over UConn in a week or two and rule the conference again. ;-)

Why would I want to get rid of St. John's? Providence has won 6 in a row against them and got to the point where their former (mentally challenged) coach called Providence fans a bunch of drunks.
On a side note: Alleged referee Tim Higgins belongs in a nursing home or an institution.

How to Make the Wienerboard a Better Place, Chapter 2: If you're going to make a smart-ass remark, make sure you know why you're saying it.
Stomp UConn Pitt will not. There's a reason why they're #1, ya know. Even if Villanueva looks like a shaven Neanderthal (facial features only, kids).

And yes, Rutgers is quite the tough team to play on their court. We barely managed to get out of there intact, and I don't think we'll be the only ones.

It looks like Delonte West is developing into that scorer RSN, plus Tony Allen is back from injury too. He should give Pierce and Davis some rest. Their defense is what is killing them right now.
