Well, looks like Payton is a Laker. Which means, Malone is going to be a Laker. Which means the Lakers are YOUR 2003-2004 NBA Champions.

Let's just hope that Shaq stays hurt and fat. Let's hope that Malone's age catches up to him this summer. Let's hope that the charges against Kobe are TRUE (I know its harsh, but I'm a Kings fan dammit!) and let's hope that...what am I saying...we're FUCKED.

Well, as much as I love this news, I don't think it's time to hand the Lakers the title just yet.

Especially if Jason Kidd and Jermaine O'Neal become Spurs.

Won't Payton & Malone want the ball as much as Shaq & Kobe already get it ? I don't think the egos are going to mix all that well and we could see some serious chemistry issues.....at least I hope we do

Betting against Karl Malone in important playoff games has traditionally always been almost as guaranteed money as betting against Peyton Manning in playoff games. If the Lakers could just get Tony Dungy to cross over from football to coach them it could be the easiest bet ever ;)

GP Are Ya With Me is a cancer in the locker room. Enjoy the headaches in 2003-04, Laker fans. The Sonics still made out like fucking bandits on that trade.

This is going to go over as well as the 1993 New York Mets.

Michael Vick: Oh man, invisibility. If I was in a bad situation or something or I said something or you know, caught with two girls I could just disappear. I could be gone just like that -- no trouble.

I think that thought and all of the others about how this is going to blow up in the Lakers' face is just flat ridiculous. I, too, wanted to believe that this wasn't an automatic title-clinching pair of moves. "The bench is still no good," I said. "The Spurs will have confidence since they won the title, and the Kings will be extra hungry because the got screwed up by injuries," I proclaimed with eagerness. WRONG. Here are the FACTS.

Games played, career:
Karl Malone - 1434 out of 1444 possible games
Gary Payton - 1027 out of 1032* possible games
(Payton missed two games last year due to league stipulations regarding the trade between Seattle and Milwaukee.)

These guys DON'T get injured. Period.

Minutes played, 2002-03:
Malone - 36.2
Payton - 40.1

Neither player, despite their advancing ages, has dropped off in minutes in recent years. So, even if the Lakers play the five minutes a game less than their career averages, you've got Kobe at 41 min/game, Shaq at 38 min/game, Malone at 31 min/game, and Payton at 35 min/game. That's 145 out of 192 minutes for their four positions on the court (and, remember, I lowered GP and Karl's minutes). That's only 47 minutes per game for other players. There will probably be at least two of these guys on the court at all times.

Here is the Lakers' current lineup:
1 - GP
2 - Kobe
3 - ?
4 - Malone
5 - Shaq

This, to me, is the deathblow for any prediction of this failing for the Lakers: WHO DO YOU DOUBLE-TEAM ON DEFENSE?

Kobe? Get torn up by GP. Shaq? Get ripped up by the Mailman. Malone? Please, you can't leave Shaq unguarded. Gary? Can't leave Kobe alone, right? Play ZONE? GP can knock down open threes and I saw Kobe hit eight in a row with guys all over him against the Sonics last year, plus you're three will likely be able to knock down threes as well. Malone will hit the J from 18 feet, and you still have the whole "Shaq" thing to deal with if he gets the ball inside.

I suddenly see a lot of 110-115 point nights for LA. I'd also love to see them put Luke Walton at the three spot. He doesn't particularly care if he shoots the ball (a HUGE plus with the other four guys in the lineup) and there is hardly a better passer out there.

I know I shouldn't, but suddenly the devil in me is praying that Kobe's exposed as a guilty son of a bitch and has to do time. That's about the only thing that could possibly screw up the Lakers now.

Thus, our national nightmare begins. Again.

Speaking of bastard gods, Faggot (boy, that's a phrase you don't hear everyday) I really got to look into this whole Zen thing. I mean, what the fuck is the deal with Phil Jackson? How does he get this lucky ALL THE TIME? What a coach! A real genius!

I agree, Payton has to have the ball but only as far as controlling the game, he doesn't necessarily have to shoot, but what people are bringing up here is Payton's DEFENSE. The guy isn't called the glove for nothing. He's been an all defensive player for his entire career, and now him and Kobe are going to be guarding the other guards in the league and Shaq swatting shots down low. Their defense has the potential to be as scary as their offense does.

Also don't forget Derek Fisher. He was their third best scorer the past couple of years and now he's going to be coming off the bench to give them a spark.

The could still use another good bench player or two, but I think they'll be fine as long as Malone doesn't complain.

*Grabs a glass of Haterade*

Hopefully: The NBA is alot more competitive now, anyone can beat anyone. *Takes a swig* They could experience the "too many chiefs, too little indians" problem. *Swigs again* They would have to play second fiddle to Kobe, the Lakers didn't start winning until Shaq did. *Swigs again* It just won't work, like when Barkley went to the Rockets.

Realistically: Let's just give 'em their damn rings and get it over with already.

*Takes another swig and passes it around*

Not beating on women, CRZ, but "only" sexually assaulting them. Thanks for coming out, Kobe!

I'm actually eager to see a Lakers/Mavs game this year in order to see something like a 154-149 score.

It's official now, Payton and Malone are now Lakers. I was really hoping one of the other teams would steal away one. This should be illegal or something. 5 future Hall of Famers (Kobe, Shaq, Payton, Malone, and Phil) on one freaking team! No way!

Fallen over the NBA, a dark cloud has...

I'll be optimistic and say they can win the East. The finals would be a disaster for them, unless a team NOT playing in California can make the cut. (or Texas)
