My brother is in the Army and recently left for Iraq. He was of course scared and very nervous. He left the airport in Washington and flew to Maine. He told me that when he and his fellow soldiers got off the plane there were dozens of people waiting, civillians, all with yellow ribbons, flags and signs telling them how they were heros. My brother told me the coolest thing of all, they had hundreds of prepaid cellphones and handed them out to the soldiers so they could call their loved ones and tell them how they were doing.
This is probably one of the coolest things I've heard of thats happened, I'm so grateful to those people for their kindness.
They've been gone before - sometimes for months - and they've also come back before. I wouldn't write them off completely just yet. Even the linked story mentions that it's "too soon to consign the site to history.
