Phillips to be first woman to coach D-I men

I'm surprised it's taken this long. Women have been offered jobs before(notable Pat Summit offered the men's job at Tennesse) I'm just surprised that somebody somehwere hasn't done it as a gimmick.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism.

This is more out of neccesity than her actually wanting to do it. This year for TSU has just been crap piled up on crap.

And I still think Pat Summit should be UT's men coach.

Another in a long line of brilliant moves by the Tennessee State athletic dept. TSU is becoming widely known around the nation for all the wrong reasons.

Well, reading the article, it's not that big of deal. It's just one game, and she has coaching experience. Though I would tend to think one of the assistants could handle it just fine as well, so you would think this is also part publicity stunt.

I think the toughest part of being a female coach trying to coach guys would be the respect aspect. Could she gain the men's respect, or would they be automatically rejected?

Pat Summit is one of the few, if not only, women I believe could coach guys and get the job done. At least she gives looks to her girls that would scare the piss out of me anyway.

Most normal seasons I'd say yeah, give Summitt the men's job too, but right now, the men are holding their own down here. Kinda surprising.

How long will they be down and out? I say a few years. I can not see many free agents (mid to high level) wanting to play in LA because of the fact that Kobe is such a ball hog and a prima donna.
