Just watching Hawaii show that yes, as most of us expected, they are overrated. Holy cow, I know I haven't watched Brennan much this season, but if you just saw this game he comes across as very flawed. It's not even like a great player having a bad game, his arm strength is not very impressive and accuracy hasn't been much better. I've seen him do better but wow. Just a bad game thus far.

Even if they come back, no one can take them seriously at this point.

As I said in the other thread, I'm still hurting from my FSU loss, but it's ok. I think I set my expectations as they should be at the start of this season so I'm ok. I expect them to end up bottom top 25. Even with the hard schedule I expect more improvement and I think that's as far as I can hope. But I'm ok with that. I think.

So one top 25 team down last night(granted most will and should question that ranking now), and another looking in trouble tonight. Will we rename this Bloodbath Weekend Part 3? If OU kills Missouri, is it a big deal? If Mizzou wins, is it, after what Colorado did? Does Kentucky pull it off against LSU?(no) Slow weekend in terms of ranked teams playing each other, but with this season you have to figure on more chaos.

And college football related, what happens to USC? Since the loss to Texas they have become mortal, and now with the Bush scandal FINALLY gaining strength, is this their undoing? Sure proving the coaches or admin knew anything about it would be hard, but wow. They are going to get all the numbers now, and Bush surely will be ruled ineligible, it sounds like for a couple of seasons he played. Does Vince Young finally get that Heisman he tells everyone he deserved?

If Hawaii goes down(didn't San Jose State have Boise on the ropes last November?), it could cause serious questioning of the 2 team maximum rule with the extra BCS game, since no Independent will be in the slot. Could be a 3 loss team in a BCS game over a higher ranked/better 2-3 loss team due to the league max rule. At this point, you would think SEC #2 and Pac 10 #2 would get in, but it is tough after that.
You would need a Top 5 team to get knocked off for this weekend to live up to the last 2. Oklahoma/Missouri would be a mild upset due to the home field, but nothing legendary. Central Florida would be a nice sized upset, proving George O'Leary is a better coach than constructor of resumes, but it would be more of an excuse to declare South Florida overrated than anything else. Notre Dame knocking off Boston College would be divine justice, but it is in South Bend, and Boston College has a history of not dealing well with prosperity. Kent going into the Horseshoe and knocking off Ohio State could make Stanford knocking off USC seem like a run of the mill game, and make this weekend worthy of the previous 2. Cal losing would show that being #2 is as bad this year as it was last year, where #2 kept losing until Florida knocked off Ohio State. LSU going down would be huge, but Kentucky has the quarterback, home-field, and it is LSU coming off a monster win with a payback game against Auburn on the other side of this game.
Pete Carroll should have learned from Miami and gotten out of LA after last year before the NCAA really came knocking on the door.

I would just like to add, regarding tonight's game, that every team must now have a midget as the QB towel boy. It's just too perfect to not enforce.

Honestly I kinda expect a slow down this week, in that most teams we expect to win do. But with what's taken place so far I just don't know what to expect.

Which is again why college football rules and no one should think of changing a single thing about it.
Edit: Colt redeemed himself a bit in my eyes tonight. He's got that Vince Young, you will never beat me, look in his eyes. Sure his team doesn't have the talent. Other than a great WR, they are limited. But that kid is the type of guy that will get you a few extra wins you don't deserve. No I don't see him doing well in the NFL. But I wouldn't be too upset if he played for my team.

You'd take the midget towel boy, put him at QB, and call him an improvement over what Florida State has right now.

I know you're joking, but really Lee isn't a bad QB at all. Trying to work three years of poor training under Jeff Bowden out of him is taking time, but he's getting better every week. We're talking about a five star recruit here after all. Last year FSU got beat at home by 30 points against Wake. This year on a short week, they lose by three at Wake. That's some solid improvement in my view. If they had a full week to prepare(and Lee didn't miss practice for schoolwork) I bet that could have pulled this game off.

Plus what's hurting them more than anything is they still can't run block at all. They have no running game going right now, which makes it quite a bit harder to play QB. This time next year I think he'll be pretty awesome, but we'll see. I think of him like a freshman, but maybe even worse cause he's had his head filled with so much garbage from Jeff. It's no surprise that in the spring Ponder picked up on what Fisher wanted from his QB's before Weatherford or Lee did.

And thank you Illinois. It was really nice to see you again. Sure had been awhile. But hey, I think we're done here now. Knew I could count on you Zooker. See you next year maybe?

If you would have ever told me a FSU fans would have been saying that about WAKE FOREST and been serious, I never would have believed it in a million years.

Also, just to beat theBucsFan to it and start our weekly debate on the merits of USF, they beat UCF 64-12. Now, how do you judge UCF? Do you give them credit for beating NC State on the road and hanging with Texas for 56 minutes, or do you penalize them for losing to 3-3 East Carolina?

EDIT: I thought I should check, and I did, and NC State is 1-5. They aren't good. Texas should probably be a 9-win team at the end of the season, though.

So I was talking to a friend today about Colt Brennan and Hawaii and he was saying all these good things about him (which I would normally chime in with) when I said, "Yeah but they still lost." To which he responds, "No they didn't, they won."

Holy cow. I stopped watching the game with about 5:30 to go to start watching the Rockies-Diamondbacks game, and boy do I regret THAT decision. I've seen the Hawaii highlights on ESPN.com by now but I'm still in disbelief. Talk about unexpected.

Now I know Hawaii is going to drop in some people's eyes now that they were nearly defeated by a relatively nothing team, but what happens to Colt Brennan's (NFL, Heisman) stock? Sure he tossed 4 interceptions, but he also threw 75 passes. SEVENTY-FIVE. Plus he won the game, and in the end that's what really matters (or at least that's what Tony Romo tells me). I hope this game gets replayed sometime so that I can DVR it.

DAMN!

LSU/Kentucky was a nailbiter! That was fucking great.

...I wonder who's gonna get ranked #1 now.

...I wonder if Jimmy Johnson's gonna apologize to the USF fans for his shitty remarks last week when USF goes to #2 (or #1) this week.

Cant wait for the rankings.

Um, I think you're being more than a little unrealistic. Cal(if they win today), Ohio State and Boston College will all remain ahead of South Florida. Maybe the computers push them up to third, but no chance at #1, or #2 without a Cal upset.

How LSU lost that game I have no idea. Fun to watch though. Now comeon Mizzou!

Yeah seriously, settle down on USF. It's good to see them finally perform like a top 10 team, but no chance in hell of them moving past anybody not named LSU.

Speaking of LSU, what an amazing game, but that play calling at the end.. eh, kinda made the final play seem anticlimactic. Although I must admit I enjoyed how the announcers were JUST saying that LSU could run it four times in a row and have no problem. Whoops.

Door's certainly open for Ohio State now. They won't get passed up by Boston College; not when the beat the woeful Notre Dame by only 13. And Oregon State is hanging tough with Cal, so I think the Buckeyes are in a position to jump them in next week's rankings.

If Cal goes down, I can see USF reaching #3 (behind OSU and BC). But that's a big IF right now.

Man, Kentucky wins today, Vanderbilt nearly beats Georgia, Ole Miss nearly beats Alabama. All the teams that lost or nearly lost certainly didn't play their best game (but who does every week?) If the bottom teams in the SEC continue to play this way I don't think anybody is going undefeated in the SEC for a while. If LSU somehow gets upset by Auburn or Alabama then every team in the SEC could lose twice.

Step right up, Ohio St., you're next in the #1 slot, as Cal had a golden chance to at least get OT vs. Oregon St. 1st and 10 on the OSU 14 with 14 seconds left. No time outs, and the QB draw ends with a tackle inbounds, and they can't get the tying FG off. So, LSU and Cal both lose, and we're looking at Ohio St.-BC-USF? And do the first BCS rankings come out this weekend, or next weekend, because THOSE are going to be real interesting to see.

First BCS rankings come out this Sunday.
Before the weekly South Florida is Good, South Florida is Bad, South Florida being ranked is the work of the devil argument breaks out, has Ohio State actually played a real football team yet? Could get to the title game playing the absolute worst schedule of any team to reach the game.
Two straight years Oregon State tries to screw up at the end of an upset of #1 or presumptive #1 yet pulls it out. Take the loss of down penalty for an illegal forward pass to stop the clock on the last play if you are Cal. Classic goalline stand by Oregon State to change the momentum in the 3rd quarter though.
Please let Claussen transfer (and take the QB coach with him). Notre Dame would have had a real shot today if Weis decided to play someone who could average over 3 yards per pass attempt as his starting quarterback.
No other conference seems to play the classic overtime games that the SEC plays.
USC really needs to drop in the polls now, despite the win.
Anyone know where I can get copies of the photos Callahan has of the Nebraska administration so I can blackmail them for close to the money he is extorting?
Let the argument begin: Is Oklahoma, LSU, Cal or Oregon the best 1-loss team. Potential is starting to occur for an unbeaten Ohio State to face a 2-loss team for the national title.

Ohio State hasn't played any real tough teams, but they've been pretty dominant for the most part (especially on the defensive side of things).

The real test for the Bucks is now:
vs. Michigan State
at Penn State
vs. Wisconsin
vs. Illinois
@ Michigan

Another good week of College Football. As an ACC fan, this might be blasphemy, but I'm starting to jump on the bandwagon of the SEC -- every week, their games are always some of the most exciting, and feature some pretty good football being played (that Auburn/Arkansas abomination notwithstanding).

I don't know if USF is the real deal, but they at least seem to be the one Big East team that can handle success. Every other team in that conference that starts to rise up, seems to then fall flat on their face (see Rutgers vs Maryland, Cincinnati this week, WVU vs, USF, etc.).

Color me not completely sold on Ohio State. I'm not even sure that the Big Ten schedule will test them that much -- Michigan State is, well, Michigan State, and Wisconsin hasn't really looked that great either (especially not today). And with Penn State, you really don't know what you're gonna get from one week to the next.

And finally, re: Cal - was I the only one who starting yelling "what are you DOING?!" the second Riley started to take off instead of throwing it away?

Well, we're down to 6 undefeated teams, 5 of them from BCS conferences. The path to chaos is on schedule.

Future #1 Ohio State has 5 games left, all against Big Ten teams that are 5-2, and the Penn State and Michigan games are away.

Future #2 Boston College has Virginia Tech, Florida State, Maryland, Clemson, and Miami. And if they somehow survive that, then they'll have to play probably Virginia or Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship.

Future #3 South Florida has Rutgers, Connecticut, Cincinnati, Syracuse, Louisville, and Pittsburgh left.

Arizona State, ranked 14th before this weeks games, has California, Oregon, UCLA, USC, and Arizona. Yikes.

Kansas, ranked 20th before this weeks games, has Colorado, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Iowa, and Missouri. If they somehow survived that, they'd play Oklahoma or Texas Tech in the Big 12 Championship.

Hawaii, ranked 16th before this weeks games, is the non-BCS team. Their quest is to get into the top 12 (or Top 16 ahead of a BCS automatic bid), getting them a BCS bowl berth. They have New Mexico State, Fresno State, Nevada, Boise State, and Washington left. But it's going to have to be the human polls that move them up, as I don't think they're going to get any love from the computers. Not with a non-conference schedule of Northern Colorado (I-AA), UNLV, Charleston Southern (I-AA), and Washington.

Ohio State's schedule is backloaded. The problem is, all these other Big 10 teams keep knocking each other off before Ohio State gets to play them. If this were the SEC, it would be a sign of how strong the conference is, but since it's the Big 10, it just means the Big 10 sucks, or something.

As far as this week's polls, I don't expect either LSU or Cal to drop too far, I wouldn't be surprised of LSU is still in the top 5. Kentucky should probably jump into the Top 10. No disrespect to South Florida, but I wouldn't be surprised if LSU only dropped a couple a spots, to say, third. The media loves the SEC, and all you'll hear about is LSU losing a tough conference game on the road in overtime.

My guess:

1. Ohio State
2. Boston College
3. LSU (probably still getting first-place votes, too)
4. South Florida
5. Oklahoma
6. South Carolina
7. Kentucky
8. California
9. Oregon
10. USC

As a long suffering UK fan, it will be sweet to savor this historic win for at least seven days until FL comes to town. But after beating the #1 team in the nation in thrilling fashion, this team's confidence could not be any higher going into a game with a team they haven't beaten in 20 years. Gameday is coming to Lexington!

I also heard that "other team" in the state of KY won a game this weekend, but I'm not sure I believe it. ; )
