Okay, I was pretty damned skeptical about them, but I checked out some songs of theirs, and it led me to purchasing their "If It Was You" LP last March. I liked it, though it is a departure from my musical tastes, I would say they're alterna-pop, but disagree.

Anyway, so tonight, the 23rd, they were playing a little accoustic set down at a local CD store, CD World. A free show at a music store is their only Oregon appearance, not that I am complaining mind you. Living relatively close to the store, to I hoof it down to the store, they are on stage, and bantering/bickering, well they are sisters. They did pick on Ted, the guy doing the guitar. Store is filled with mostly gals, college age, and ranging in the twenties. But they played a few songs, chatted up, and then it was over, and they were doing the signing and selling paraphenelia. I would have gotten in line, but I picked that, and the new K-OS album. (And I did get the new Godspeed You Black Emperor album a bit earlier... I am racking up the Canadian artists.)

Well their new album, "So Jealous," is good. Album of the year? Naaaaaaaah.... "Yanqui U.X.O" by Godspeed is better in my opinion, but it's a few notches above the stuff I hear on the pop stations around here. I recommend you at least give it a listen, it's not for everyone.

Godspeed is amazing, and is the single best live show on the planet, bar none. If you dig GYBE, check out their many side projects, particularly the different incarnations of A Silver Mt. Zion. "He Has Left Us Alone But Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corner of Our Bedrooms" is awe-inspiring, and the first movement of "this is our punk-rock,' thee rusted satellites gather+sing" is just F'n incredible.

I've been meaning to, and I found a local record store that carries all of GYBE and it's side projects.

So the premiere of what JD Ryznar promises to be the absolute last episode of Yacht Rock happened on April 17th in Brooklyn, NY - and FINALLY, they've uploaded it to the web. Yacht Rock 12 (channel101.com)
