Over the summer I got infested by the Sir Cam worm. After a few days, I got it off my computer and everything seemed fine. But now in the past two months or so I find that I have all these weird programs suddenly on my computer. They don't seem to do anything, just slow the thing down, most of them just crash and usually it leads to my computer stalling when I try doing a simple task like opening a file or playing a cd or a dvd. I've done multiple scans of my system with Norton Anti-Virus and it says that there are no viruses on my computer. I thought I could live with the occasional re-boot, but it's getting to be really annoying. I'm pretty sure my current problems have nothing to do with my earlier problems in the summer. So here is my question: If I uninstalled windows and then re-installed it, would all of these little programs that are crashing all the time go away? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Prying open my third eye.

You can't really uninstall Windows, if you mean "re-install it on top of the old one" then that might not sort out your problems. If you format your hard disk then install WIndows on top of that, then you would eliminate the virus (as, in effect, you are killing everything on the hard disk). Just make sure that whatever you back up (personal files or whatever) doesn't contain any executables as you might end up starting afresh then putting the virus back on. Good luck with it!

have you ran a "live update" on Norton anti-virus? Live update downloads files that basically updates Norton. One thing it does is lets Norton know about the new virus.

Maybe that's why your computer hasn't detected that virus.

Hope this helps.
