Somewhere along the line, my company took out the super cool Windows Messenger 5.1 I'd been using for five years and replaced it with the truly dreadful Office Communicator 2007 R2. (They also configured it so that any time anybody IM'd me a hyperlink it wasn't linked so I'd have to manually cut and paste instead of clicking - because this is a "security" company and that extra step will save us from.....God knows what - but I digress.)

I've been dealing with this annoying "Outlook Update is Needed" notification ever since. Microsoft really, really wanted me to install a hotfix - KB936864 - except every time I tried to install 936864, it would fail saying it didn't detect the right version of Office. Which was a crock, because I also had to replace my beloved Office 2003 with Office 2007 around the same time.

Google searching for similar folks with my predicament didn't help things - which I guess is why I'm writing this now, because I finally DID figure out how to get everything copacetic. I hope.

Turns out that I had to remove the Compatibility Pack for Office 2003 (which let me read all the Office 2007 dox everyone was stubbornly sending me - see what I did there, I flipped it because really *I* was the stubborn one for continuing to use 2003 ah go to hell) and THEN the hotfix could suddenly see that, yes, Office 2007 was here and it could be patched so that Communicator would stop complaining. I hope. (2) I say this because now I have to reboot the damn thing AGAIN. I've already typed this much so I've decided to finish and post and THEN reboot. Cross your fingers, you'll either see me back here real soon or I'll waste the rest of the day trying to figure out just why this laptop won't come up after all these stupid automatic updates over which I have no control.

I LOVE that they will pay me incredible sums of money to help people with their tech support issues but God forbid I am left in charge of taking care of my own hardware and software....all right, enough of that. Reboot and coffee time. This has been CRZ BLOGGING

EDIT: Hooray it worked!

Ours used to block us from sending hyperlinks all together. However, if you put an underscore in front of the hyperlink, you could send it. (Which in turn, the receiver would have to cut and paste, because as you mentioned, it doesn't appear as a link.)

Besides that annoyance, I don't have any other major complaints with Office Communicator.

It actually looks like a rug my parents used to have when I was a kid. By the way, CRZ, I noticed an alarming trend of ties that you post having an odd resemblance to something my parents own or used to own.
