Sorry to say this, but so far the Canadians have disappointed me..alot.
They played terrible hockey against the Swedes and walked right into their trap as they were caught up ice over and over again..
They played just below average against Germany. Although better than the first game it still was unorganised, scrappy hockey that you shuoldn't expect from a team like this.
Sakic's goal was good, bu then they had to rely on a 5on3 goal, and another PP goal (or was it just after the P ended?). AND they allowed the germans to get back into the game.
I know this is just for positions for the next round but you woul assume you try to win some so you face belarus or something..now they will likely meet the russians or the usa who did start off well..
Sweden beat the Czechs. Good, at least now ppl will not consider them an outsider, which they are not..
Russia vs USA was great hockey. 60 minutes filled with action. Awesome!
So Lemieux rested for the game against Czech Republic for tonight. Hmm..that means he got two days of rest as he didn't do shit in the first game

Everybody's a little paranoid right now, I think. Canada wasn't nearly at their best against Sweden, but Sweden was AWESOME. They've played great hockey (especially Sundin, who ALWAYS plays amazingly well in international competition), and deserve to be where they are. Big game against the Czechs tonight will go a long way in determining their medal hopes. Our boys will regroup - you just gotta have faith!
Canada is playing a lot like the US played in Nagano. I do not know if they thought that the first round would be a cakewalk or are waiting for the second round to wake up. It would be to their advantage to finish with the second seed in order to play the #3 seed in the D group which will probably be Finland.
I do not want to finish second in our division because that means we get either the Czech Republic or Canada. Not the team I want to face in the quarterfinals.
How much heat are Gretsky and Burns getting in Canada over the subpar performance so far?

Here are the big ones:
The Flyers acquire Adam Oates from the Capitals for Maxime Ouellet and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks in 2003.
The Avalanche acquire Darius Kasparaitis from the Penguins for Ville Nieminen and Rick Berry.
