In the NY area, the Braves-Mets game was on MSG, the channel I'm supposing gets precedence in this situation. So, I'm guessing you get MSG in Philly. | Bullitt

Really? So a home broadcaster (say TBS) and an away broadcaster (say WPIX) can't show the same game? I had no idea...

Same thing used to occur when the Yankees played on WPIX. A Red Sox-Yankees or Red Sox-Braves game from Fenway would be blacked out on TBS or PIX, but should those teams play in New York or Atlanta the broadcast would be sent into the market. Whether a new rule has been establised to cause the market to be protected even when the team is on the road is possible, or someone hit the wrong switch at the cable company. Considering Philly wouldn't qualify as the New York market, my guess is on someone hitting the wrong button.

They are in the same family, so it may only apply to different owners.

Ever tried watching a PG-13 or R-rated comedy on TBS? I watched Robin Hood: Men in Tights on TBS once, and it was censored to such a degree that it wasn't remotely funny. Of course, whether or not the movie is funny in its original version depends upon your taste in movies. I happen to enjoy the movie when I can watch, y'know, the whole thing. “Chris Benoit, finally, is the Heavyweight Champion of this world!” --Jim Ross, WrestleMania XXWiener of the Day Title History: Won the title on 5/27/02 from Lunacy in a hardcore match; lost the belt the following day to wheresitat42 via offbeat shenanigans Regained the title on 7/3/02 by pinning SKLOKAZOID in a triple-threat match; lost the belt the next day to NickBockwinkelFan via heel chicanery Certified RFMC Member-- Ask To See My Credentials! | The Thrill

The NFL has a different TV deal than the other sports. They have always made the Cable (ESPN & once upon a time TNT) games available to the local teams markets on an over the air channel since not everyone in America has cable TV. They use the same feed so the only difference are the local commercials. In NYC the games are usually shown on Channel 11 which most definitely is not the local ABC affiliate.

No, we don't get MSG.
Wish I could help you out, but I wasn't channel surfing last night, so I didn't run across the problem.

Case in point - my cable signal originates in Rockford IL, which is within 80 miles of Wrigley Field. Any time that the Cubs are broadcast on ESPN or ESPN2, as well as by a local Chicago channel, I get a different game on ESPN or ESPN2. Forget the fact that I don't get the local channel that carries the Cubs on my cable system, my signal is still within the Cubs "local area".
Keep in mind, this is just what my cable provider has told me.
