What could the WWF have done to save Tazz? In ECW he was just bout unbeatable. Well he also main evented a ppv against Bubba Ray Dudley. He came to the WWF and started to feud with The ROCK and Angle....the only other ood feud was with Lawler. Lawler should have put Tazz over not the other way around. Look at what happened to most of the ECW alum. RVD and to alesser extent Tommy Dreamer have done ok. Everyone else to come to WWf directly from ECW haent done that great. Tazz is an Ok announcer and all but he was a good wrestler now he is only brought out for Royal Rumbles and an occasional mini-feud...Austin and w/ Spike against The Dudley Boyz.
Some other ECW guys are surviving. Tajiri's done all right. He's been over with the fans from day one and had a few runs with lightweight/cruiserweight gold. Rhyno got pushed pretty far up the card, to the point where he was made it to the Invasion 10 man main event. I suspect he'll be given opportunties upon his return.
Both of those guys have unique styles and somewhat bizarre charisma that set them in theri own niche.

Put him on a rack and stretch him by five inches or so?
Tazz had a nice run as an indy wrestler in ECW -- nothing to be ashamed of.

The Dudleys would count as success stories right out of ECW.

What I don't understand is why all these Tazz fans are so upset. He's happy as an announcer, he flat-out said so. If he's happy, you should be happy, as a fan of his. As for what they could have done to save Tazz, nothing. He was too short, that's just the way it is. He's too short to be a power wrestler in the WWE. If he could move like Jericho, Benoit, or Angle, then maybe he could have done something.
Agreed. Which would you rather do, get paid to be bashed over the head with chairs and the like, or TALK about other people getting bashed over the head with chairs and the like? I think Tazz is getting a pretty good deal.
I agree with Tazz's choice as well. I was never really a Tazz fan. Tazz was good in ECW but once he arrived in WWF he dwindled down to a jobber or low mid card at best.Except for his Tag Title Run.
Tazz said that his heart wasn't in it anymore. I can't help but think that maybe his heart would still be in it if he was in the middle of some fued with a big name- like maybe RVD or even Edge. It sucks because Kurt Angle was given the "master of the suplex" type of gimmick that Taz was known for. Angle is legit, but so is Taz. I was hoping he'd get into some major beef with some big stars in the WWF, but it never really happened. But I still have his debut at the Rumble against the then undefeated Kurt Angle- that was cool! If he's happy, I'm happy for him. But damn, I would have loved to see Taz against Angle in a 15-20 minute suplexathon!
Tazz broke his neck 8 years ago, similar injury to Lita's. He never had surgery for the injury, because it wasn't being done in 1994. Instead, he rehabbed himself for 9 months. Now he won't have to damage it any more.

Well, let's see...
They debuted Tazz in a hot segment with Kurt Angle and he appeared to be majorly over. Not only that, Tazz was the first guy to beat Angle in his unbeaten streak, but you wouldn't know that if you watched WWF TV for the few weeks after the Rumble, where they tried to make you forget that Angle lost a match for some reason.
Then, you had the ECW Champ vs WWF Champ match between Tazz & HHH, where HHH basically killed off Tazz's finisher and his momentum to boot. Next thing you know, he's feuding with Crash Holly over the Hardcore Title.
Not only does he feud with Crash Holly over that tile, but he never really wins the feud as they institute that dumb-ass 24/7 rule that basically destroyed any meaning that title ever had. They really had a chance to build up Tazz by making him the #1 guy in the Hardcore division (like they did with RVD last year), but they blew it.
After that, Tazz stumbled around for a bit before finding himself in a position that actually suited him well as an announcer. At least he fared better than other ECWers, but he could have been a lot bigger than he was as a wrestler.
I'm going to miss Tazz the wrestler. He really wasn't a successful wrestler in WWE. However he was good as a trainer in the first Tough Enough, and now as color commentator on Smackdown. He is much better now then when he took Lawler's place last year.

With La Res, and especially Dupree, getting so much heat the other night, I wonder if Lance shouldn't retool his old Anti-American gimmick from WCW, maybe in a mentoring role to La Res or some such thing.
