Former ECW World champion and long-time WWE announcer Tazz left World Wrestling Entertainment last night after calling the matches for this Friday's edition of Smackdown. He is now officially done with the company as his WWE contract expires today.

---------------------------------------------------------

He didn't want to wait until after this weekend was done? Wow. I wish him well on his future endeavors.

Perhaps Bradshaw's history moment will be the first man to wrestle a match at Mania and then go to the broadcast booth and do color analysis of Mania.

So Tommy Dreamer is the last real ECW guy left (unless you count Jericho and Mysterio).

He made a nice transition to the table after his days as a performer, and I think he should have stayed on the ECW commentary team.

This sucks not so much for the commentary, but the work he and Joey Styles do on the History of ECW on WWE 24/7 is just awesome. I hope they can work out something to at least let him keep doing that.

I have to say, this is the worst departure I have heard about in a while. Tazz was never the best color commentator ever, but he and Cole had good chemistry and he and J.R. were starting to hit their stride.

Though if, as redsoxnation suggests, it means the return of JBL on color, I have little problem with it.

Lies. Lies sir.

I didn't think much of his in-ring wrestling career, but I loved him on commentary after he dropped the "Badass being forced on commentary act". He made Cole tolerable, and had one of the best lines I ever heard from WWE commentary.

"I love Ozzy Osbourne Cole! Here I am! Rock you like a hurricane!"

He also made the same mistake the next week quoting ACDC's "Highway to Hell". I'm gonna miss Tazz.

I'll be honest, I thought Tazz had been growing increasingly stale over the last couple of years. Back in 2004, I would've considered JR/Tazz to be a broadcasting dream team (I loved their call of the Royal Rumble that year), but they just seem really bored together on Smackdown.

Maybe the draft will end some of this jerking around with the announce team and we can get JR-King and Cole-Bradshaw again. Or maybe promote Grisham and Striker up to one of the big shows.

Yup, that was my thought upon reading this. JR's been pretty vocal in his support of Striker. Maybe Tazz headed for the exit after being told he was headed back to ECW in a coupla weeks.

Honestly, this isn't a huge loss. I liked Tazz in the booth, but his best run - opposite Cole the uberweenie - had a very limited shelf life. JBL and Striker are both much better.

Here's a thought: maybe they'll opt for a supertrio of King, JR and Striker for Sunday?

Seconded with an HELL YEAH. Man, I'd love that...especially if Striker picked on JR's Sooners everytime they lose.

I'm sorry to hear that Taz(z) is gone; I quite enjoyed his colour commentary work.

Was he ever given a proper send-off after his in-ring days were finished?

EDIT: a question: couldn't he have planned it a bit better, say...after Wrestlemania? I don't know how the WWE works it's payoffs to it's performers and its commentary teams, but I would imagine calling a card like Wrestlemania would pay much more than a weekly telecast.

Good luck, Tazz, wherever you end up.

Ever seen the 18 Wheelers(I call them Haulers) the WWE uses to transport all the equipment. There is a different WWE star on each one of them.

Man, did I love Taz in ECW. That is how you book a bad ass. After an awesome debut in the Garden against Angle, he never really got a fair shake in the ring in WWE. It didn't help that they shot him in the foot by immediately making short jokes about him. That's one of the differences between Paul E. and WWE, he could always accentuate the positives and hide the negatives, while WWE seems to enjoy pointing out the negatives on national television.

His commentary was always just okay to decent to me, mostly because I always wondered what could've been. At least he got paid the last few years of his career.

I think the 24/7 segments are filmed months in advance, as Foley was appearing on Legends long after he was in TNA. SO at least we will have a few more with him, and Joey solo would be okay as well. Or they could add Tommy?

I doubt Striker gets his spot over JBL, assuming he even wants to return to commentary.

However they do it, they also need someone to work the WGN show, so there's a couple open spots.

Tazz ended up as announcer because he was good with it once and kinda got drafted into it with his wrestling career going nowhere - I wonder if he's effectively going to be replaced by someone in the same spot.

The article says his contract is up as of today. Not like he decided out of nowhere that this was the optimum moment to quit.

I'm bummed. And pretty sure that it did have to do with a scenario where JBL goes back on commentary. Personally, I like Tazz much better.

Now, if we end up with Tazz replacing Don West on TNA, that's something I could get into...

Thank you. I can't for the life of me figure out what anyone sees in JBL's commentary. I did like the Ventura-like tendency to actually defend heels (imagine presenting two sides, instead of telling the audience what to think), but his voice and accent are annoying. Not in small doses, but certainly over a two-hour span. He was one of the reasons I stopped watching Smackdown.

The PPV was a couple weeks ago. Maybe they came up with the collapsing ring after the fact. Plus, it wouldn't really have gone along with the fork lift ending to the stretcher match.
