Well, I'm not sure what that has to do with this thread, but the fact that Target bought the rights to that song and turned it into a TV jingle to sell children's backpacks just seems to WRONG:
We like backpacks and we cannot lie WIth a cell phone pocket on the side Those old backpacks were a fashion risk But can a cool backpack exist? Check this! Tricked out with the flyest look And I'm haulin' way more than books Baby, I'm back ... at school, that is
If you haven't seen the commercial yet, keep in mind that while the song's playing, little girls (LITTLE GIRLS) are dancing around the screen showing off their backpacks ... Considering what this song used to "symbolize", I'm not sure if Target isn't breaking some sort of law here.
Weird, man ... just weird.

Words couldn't express how disappointed when I found SUPER FREAK was reworded and used as a skirt advertisement. That's just the way it goes sometimes, I guess. I'm quite thankful that Target ads aren't played on any local stations.
EDIT: Messed up, thought it was one generic looking clothes maker, not the other.

Was that a great commercial or what? Well, for Burger King at least. That song got stuck in my head for weeks and weeks after I first heard causing me to actually try the Bacon Tendercrisp Chicken sandwich the next time I made my way to Burger King (and boy was it tasty). That's the only time I can remember a commercial actually causing me to go out and buy the product.

Wrangler. Not necessarily patriotic, but supposed to be all-American nonetheless. That was the ONLY line they used from the song, too. Figures... they just exposed themselves as morons who can't comprehend lyrics.

I just remembered something like that. Phillips for a while was ending their flat screen tv ads with some lines from "Getting Better" by The Beatles. In the actual song, it goes like this:
I've got to admit it's getting better (Better) A little better all the time (It can't get more worse)
But I don't think "It can't get more worse" is the message Phillips was looking for.

Unless I misunderstood, the point of the thread was not that Mix-A-Lot sold out. My impression was that it was....weird...to see a commercial with little girls dancing around to a song about supple female ass. I would liken the situation less to the Stones selling their song to Microsoft than if, lets say, Warrant sold the rights to "Cherry Pie" to Betty Crocker, with Betty Crocker making a commercial with young girls making little cherry pies in their Betty Crocker ovens....
