Brad Keselowski wins! BRAD. KESELOWSKI. Carl Edwards flies into the catch-fence and not only walks away, he jogs to the finish line.

There's a lot of talk about what NASCAR needs to do about it, but I think it was just a fluky set of coincidences, so there's no need to do anything hasty in response. Consider...

- If Carl (or his spotter) realizes he's NOT clear of BK, he doesn't make that block quite the same way.

- Carl WOULD have not gone airborne had Newman not been trailing him in that same spot.

- After having a HUGE pack of cars together for 185 laps, Newman and Junior pulled away from the pack, THEN Carl and BK did the same. I doubt you'll see a double breakaway like that again, because the teams should be wiser to it.

I dunno, it would be just like NASCAR to over-react, without thinking it through, so I just hope they don't do anything. They had a crazy finish Saturday and everyone made it through just fine. None of the options (especially making the plates even smaller) is particularly appealing.

Good to see a Nationwide series racer win in a Sprint Series race. Boy that was a gruesome ending, good to see no fans were not seriously hurt. Can you imagine the carnage if that fence had failed? I liked the old school PEPSI challenger Jeff Gordon had until he wrecked it early in the race.

Up next Richmond.

NASCAR needs to reinstate Regan Smith's victory from last year, that's what they NEED to do.

I was bummed early when the first big one took out Gilliland before I could see him lead a lap. TRG was THIS close to the Top 35...now they're...well, still pretty close, but they really could have made up some ground in that race. I hope they get a sponsor (that isn't vaporware).

I'm sure FOX hated that their script wasn't followed, but I loved it. I DID feel kinda bad for Carl - his plan was working to perfection but he has nobody to blame but NASCAR and himself for turning left when he shouldn't have.

Maybe NOW all of the commentators will finally learn how to correctly pronounce "Keselowski" correctly? Naaaaaaaah.

Brad was so excited he forgot to thank the Miccosukee tribe! ;-)

Them dudes what post at Daly Planet are really WHINY. Is there some better place to go? (Besides JJD's blog, I mean?)

EDIT: The Nationwide race was pretty good, too!

My blog's been on hiatus, though there are grand plans to start it up again now that I've got a bit more time. HOWEVER, if I *were* to write a post today I'd at least cover the ABSOLUTELY LUDICROUS fact that Clint Bowyer was classified as "running", even though he only finished EIGHT laps, continuing his completely meaningless run "without a DNF".

I thought that finish was BETTER than Sunday's - flipping 99 car or not. At least we KNEW everyone was OK when the Nationwide race was over.

I got to disagree. How to this day Smith doesn't understand that you can't under the yellow line at all is amazing to me, but it's been that way for years. Block or no block from Stewart, he had to know he could only legally pass on the right when he was that close to the line. And that he still whines about being robbed while not even close to a top-10 in his career (46 races and counting) really doesn't help his cause.

NASCAR is in such a catch-22 with Dega and restrictor plate racing. With the plates on, it bunches the cars too close together and makes the 'Big One' almost inevitable. If they take them off, it will be spread out but I think it will be even more dangerous since there will be less control with the much higher speeds. Seeing Edwards crash like that remind me of when Bobby Allison hit the fence in '87 Click Here (youtube.com) . It makes me wonder how much more damage Edwards and fans would had suffered without the plates. Unfortunately, I can't think of a way of making it safer at Dega unless you lower the banking at the track and I highly doubt that will ever happen.
