Not that surprising given his age and the recently concluded negotiations. What an unbelievable successful run as commish! Labor peace, astronomical ratings, revenue through the roof, etc. He'll be a tough one to follow, and he has set the bar even higher than Rozelle did. Not an easy feat.

That said, did anyone else know that Condoleeza Rice's name has come up as a candidate to replace him? She, of course, has declined. (sportsillustrated.cnn.com)

| #5 Posted on 21.3.06 2027.03 | Instant Rating: 2.34 | Considering I am 36, and he is only the second Commish in my lifetime, I'd say this is a pretty big deal. He got the BILLIONS in TV contracts, and expanded, and returned to cities that teams had fled.
His mark is huge, and I cant imagine a commisioner being more efficient and successful.
