It seems that the tag team division is a bit muddled these days, with there being tag teams on both shows but the belt being SD!-exclusive. I have been knocking that one around in my head lately, and I think I hit upon a decent, and simple, solution. Keep the belt on SD!, where the SD! tag-teams can compete for it, while on RAW, the tag-teams there could compete for the tag team #1 contender spot, which would be defended only on PPV. Thereby, the tag title could only be a RAW vs. SD! affair on PPV, but there would be a scramble all month on both shows to set up the PPV match. The tag title would bring prestige and bragging rights to whichever show (and GM) won it at PPV, and it would make all the tag teams valid, even those on the non-titled show.

What do you all think?

The best part about tht idea is that it would be a unique thing that couldn't really be copied to other belts. The Unisputed and Womens Title's are already on both shows. The I-C fits well on Raw. Hardcore wrestlers are on Raw. Cruierweights are on Smackdown. European would of worked but thats gone now. Tag Team is perfect. It would add a new element to the Raw-Smackdown competition and would lt the Tag Title be on both shows,as it should have been from te start, in a interesting way.

Great idea. Then if the Raw team won it they would defend it only on Raw for that month. Whatever Raw team had the belts by the next PPV would have to defend against Smackdown's #1 team. They could do the same thing with the IC belt. Although this would make the split seem more important, it might be best to float the tag straps and IC strap because it would bring more star power to each show. I like your theory better, but I think having more star power on each show is far more important right now. I don't care about the so called star power of someone, but the casual fans and lost fans do. And in order for ratings and live attendance to go up, they need to bring back the fans that have left and also, more importantly, bring in new fans. The Hardcore fans are already there.

I think that if the WWE broke the tag teams up evenly star-power-wise between SD! and RAW that it could be just as compelling- the scramble for the #1 tag contender spot on whichever show was lacking the belts might actually be more intense than the struggle for the titles on the other show, because WWE would probably like to keep the belts on one pair of champs for the month prior to the championship match, to build up heat for them. While the actual belt changing hands regularly cheapens its value (look at the hardcore belt), the #1 contender spot could change at a mad pace, making it an up-in-the-air proposition as to who was going to actually go to the PPV and fight for it. As opposed to matches like Rock vs. (shudder) Brock, where we know far in advance the contestants for the title, we wouldn't know for sure who was going to compete for the belt until the PPV started... hell, the #1 contender spot could change on Heat right before the PPV. I think that would add a lot of spontaneity (or the appearance of it)to the WWE, something I think would be a breath of fresh air.

In addition, the Tag belts being a source of prestige to the show that has them could set up some interesting angles. Suppose everyone was hyped up to see the Anti-Americans defend the belts against the Hardyz on PPV, only to have Billy and Chuck steal a win from the Anti-Americans on the SD! right before the PPV. Billy and Chuck lose the belts on Sunday, thereby losing the SD! bragging rights to the titles to RAW. Steph, the Anti-Americans, hell, the whole locker room would be pissed at the ambiguously gay duo, setting up some potentially funny shit. I think it would work.

A great idea, even better than having the tag team champions go "between" shows. I really kind of miss having "real" tag teams, and perhaps with the Island Boyz coming up, we are going to see a resurgence of the day when we had a real tag team division, as we had not so long ago. I do not so much mind the "throw together" tag teams, and understand the need for them, but when it seems like that is all we have, it gets old, and the belts seem meaningless.

I too agree it's a great idea, but now we need actual tag teams to compete for said belts. The solution seems obvious: place all of the mildly over mid-carders with someone new who needs a chance to shine, or with another mildly over mid-carder. So here's a few ideas on some possible combinations:

Dudley Boyz - Bubba Ray/D-von. Spike's inclusion is optional
Holly/Venis
Storm/Christian
Regal/Nowinski
Rikishi/Scotty
Morrus/Orton
Island Boyz
Stasiak/D-lo
Saturn/Batista
UT/Hogan - Gives the division star power
Dreamer/Goldust
Billy/Chuck
APA

Let the rest of them compete in singles matches, with no more mix-n-match singles wrestlers in tag matches.

But some singles wrestlers work great as partners: among them All The Chrisses, The Rock, Booker T and UT. Austin was by far the best partner behind your back, I miss him. So you will see pickup tag teams for a while.

I agree with this. Right now the tag division is virtually non existant. Quick, name 5 steady tag teams off the top of your head. Not all that easy to do. I think the WWE needs to make a choice right now whether they want to have a competitive tag division or just use the belts for storyline purposes (elevating Edge by tagging with Hogan, help the Anti Americans get over, etc).

Timdrake, I like most of your teams, but I am a little confused by Morrus/Orton. Is this just a random pairing, or is there some connection I'm not seeing.

Second, I love the Booker T/Goldust combo. I don't think there's any reason they can't continue as a team and have Booker T still compete in singles action as well.

Third, I like UT/Hogan, but only as a team used to get the ball rolling in the tag division. In your scenario, I would give them the tag titles first, and have the anti-americans beat them for it after a couple of months or so, to give the whole division credibility. Then I would disband the UT/Hogan combo because they are the proverbial "division-killers." Ugh, I can't believe I just used that term. But seriously, if they hung around it's difficult to believe they wouldn't doominate over the long haul.

I would also want to find D-Lo a more talented partner than Stasiak.

I'd say you're more likely to see either a)Eric has stolen the tag champs from SmackDown! and they show up Monday night, or b)The two GMs will come to an agreement to have the straps float between both shows. At the moment we have D-Von/Batista, Holly/Venis, Billy & Chuck, Storm/Christian and possibly Hurricane/Kidman. On Raw there's Bubba & Spike, Benoit & Guerrero, the Island Boyz, Booker & Goldust and Regal & Nowinski. There are too many teams on each side to confine the titles to one show. Ergo, they should float.

I like your tag team combos, IncredibleHeelHeat, but you're missing the Hardy Boyz, who I think could make the entire division. IMHO, RVD and Mysterio are better high-flying wrestlers than the Hardyz, but they come in a close runner-up (Jeff does, anyway), so if we have RVD in the IC (and hopefully main event) circuit and Rey in the cruiserweights, the Hardyz could own the high flying spot in the tag title competition. Plus, they could have great matches with the Dudleyz and Christian & Storm (Edge & Christian ruled, but I think Storm is at least as good as Edge, and he seems to have some great chemistry with Christian). I also agree with Faust that UT/Hogan should be a temporary team, just to get the division over; after all, they are both old & slow and it would get real old real fast watching those two in the ring together regularly.

Also, I would replace Dreamer/Goldust with Dreamer/Richards. Yes, they are nemioes right now, but their chemistry kicks ass and with a little tweak by the writers I could see them as allies. I just like Goldust with Booker T, even though I don't see them as a tag team, I think they are great allies, even if they're wrestling in different singles circuits.

Saturn/Batista is interesting as well, I wasn't sure about it when I first read your post, but now that I think about it I can actually get behind the idea. Batista has a lot of potential as a "big man" heel, and I think Saturn has really gotten the shitty end of the stick in the WWE- he is a solid, imposing wrestler with a decent move set- together they could be the new APA- big, ruthless bastards that no-one wants to fuck with.

I think it's a good idea. The #1 contendor status is a quick easy way to make the title seem like a big deal. Regal has got to be one of the worst champs of all time in his last Euro title run. Not because he sucked but because he didn't give a shit about the title. Bradshaw is the same way. I like champs who being the champ is a huge deal to them. Angle was always great for this and Noble is possibly the best ever.

I like the idea. It's good.
As for star-power...this way the tag champs dont always have to be the super over team, but a building team that wins the strap and then fights off everyone on their own show. Because of that every tag team on their show gets a little rub as everyone has a chance and they all can lift one another when it comes to having that star power, or overness..
Come ppv time you can have the other show's team be the favorite and placing the defenders in an underdog position which would probably get them over even more..

It's a great idea to rebuild a tag team division by having two smaller divisions all going for the same thing..a match at the ppv..

The only reason I didn't include the reformed Hardyz is that I keep hoping to see Matt's singles push get going, but it seems to have stalled, so maybe I should add them onto the list.

And you're correct on Hogan/UT as a temporary team, as I'm sure they'll both end their runs in singles competition. But it would be fun to watch the two "ring veterans" try to counter the younger teams' speed.

I was going to submit Dreamer/Richards, but went with Goldust because I think Booker T is on the brink of main event status, and tagging with Goldy would hold him back. Then again if handled properly, an inevitable split and feud could be fun to watch.

Glad to see another vote for Saturn/Batista. I'd toyed with the idea of Eliminators 2002, but tossed it aside in favor of matching Saturn's great ring work together with Batista's "monster heel" offense. If only we could see a Batista/Brock showdown soon.

The veteran tag team of U.T. and Hogan has some points to it. Unfortunately it would suck more than LOD 2000. I personally feel that Hogan will eventually tag with Flair. Not because it's a good idea but so that the 2 biggest names ever will form a tag team. I would imagine them taking on a young smart ass team similar to the Hollywood Blondes.

I'm thinking the best route from here on would be to go with JR's calling of the "Undisputed Titles" last Monday night and have the champs on both shows. Raw's loaded with teams at the moment. Dudleys v2.0, Benoit/Eddy, BookerT/Golddust, Hardys, and now the Island Boys. I know that a lot of those guys(esp. Benoit, Eddy, BookerT, and Jeff Hardy) are concentrating on their singles pushes, but these are established teams that have a ton of chemistry. And on the Smackdown side you have Billy/Chuck, Storm/Christian, possibly Cena/Edge, and Val/Hardcore(not that anyone cares about them). You could easily add to the division by tossing together superteams like Rock/Hogan, or you could reunite guys who have teamed before, like The Hurricane and Shannon Moore. I would *love* to see a 3count reunion(like we had on Velocity this week). When they were in WCW, everyone was creaming their pants over a Hardys/3Count match. Well, now it could happen. And as far as the Anti-Americans go, I'd let the angle run it's course, and then swap Christian for Justin Credible. Then you'd have a bigger, badder Impact Players team. Jericho, Storm, Credible, and Test. It'd be the new DX/Horsemen/any other stable that's kicked ass.

Yeah, I wouldn't change the name completely. There is too much loyalty attached to it (despite slumping ratings). Monday Night Raw would be good, but by now everyone knows it's on Monday nights, so it's kinda redundant.
