Did he do the surgery himself, like how he saved Paul's life on Raw a few weeks back? #DrPunk

There's no way this is going to keep him out past the Rumble or anything else that would necessitate holding some kind of tournament.

Punk is a great talker. He's one of the few that could get by wrestling only PPVs and just cutting promos for his matches on TV. He's also one of the current guys who has an old-school attitude towards wrestling. If he needs a few weeks to recoup, he'll take it and will force himself through a big PPV match if needed, and then rest up as much as he needs afterwards, Undertaker-style.

I'm with kentish though. My first thought was Bret yelling at people from the stage while in the wheelchair and crutches back in the day. Paul's expressions would also be amazing to watch as he plays 'the concerned friend'.

If the champion is off the card, they may as well be innovative. A six-man TLC match would be pretty cool.

Ugh. That does suck. Especially since I am taking my fiancee to her first ever PPV and she was hoping for a fun Punk vs Ryback match.

It sucks if they now decide to sacrifice the Shield to him or something similar since that pulls the rug out of their story/faction too.

Let's hope Punk gets through this quickly and he can continue to garner the respect he deserves.

When was Punk's last title defense? Do they still do the "30 days" rule for those?

He defended the title this weekend, pretty sure. House shows count for title defenses whenever they want them to.

There was no angle and I'm sure it'll be up on the website soon enough so I wouldn't consider this a spoiler. During the Main Event taping, they announced that Punk was off the PPV and they'd have the six-man, Shield vs. Ryback & Hell No.

Wonder if they will strip him of the title or have one of the Shield guys re-do the finger poke of doom to cover their ass for that 30 day clause. I doubt this was going to do a massive buyrate, but Punk not wrestling is not going to help it. I also like the idea of Punk ala Bret '97. I would assume Heyman can talk his way out of Punk losing the title, but take a beating at the PPV.

Yes, they've had him keep the title for over a year, he's only supposed to be out a few weeks and he'd have a big money match with Punk and Rock at Royal Rumble coming up, but they're going to make him give up the title because he's going to miss one PPV. That's exactly what's going to happen.

Official statement from Mr. McMahon, no less. (wwe.com)

The Shield vs. The Ryback and The Team Hell No is a TLC match.

Pinfalls and submissions, like in the video games. Nothing to grab from the ceiling.

Poor Daniel Bryan's eating the pin on this one if his side loses.

All quiet on that front...which has me hoping for a surprise return at the Rumble.

"Scoped for partially torn meniscus" shouldn't be a big deal at all from a recovery standpoint. 6 weeks to full activity for normal people, likely less for professional athletes. Although, I'd put down $$$ that he discussed with Dr Andrews whether he can somehow work TLC in < 2 weeks. (Presumably, as an experienced pro athlete doc, he knows a looney when he sees one & said no.) Punk will be some kind of "active" with a limited mobility kind of brace by next Monday; whether WWE has him at TV or tells him to stay home & recover is a different issue. By getting him into surgery immediately, he (being a lunatic & all) should definitely be good to go for the Rumble (Jan 27).

They seemingly haven't invoked that rule in years and years, which is a shame because I briefly imagined we would be getting another 1992 Royal Rumble. Oh well.

I guess technically they invoked it when they stripped Edge and Batista a few years ago. But I agree that if Punk can walk/hobble his way to the ring, there is no way he misses the biggest match of his career against Rock.

Along the same lines as Mark Henry, what the hell happened to Christian???

Too bad they won't pull the trigger and go for it. Think about it. A Rumble for the belt, with Cena, Rock, Lesnar in it. They could throw money at Goldberg and HBK for one night. HHH, Taker, Henry, Christian could all return. You could even have Cena/Ziggler cash in the briefcase against the WHC winner, then enter the rumble as the WHC and try to win the WWe Title. Hell, Ric Flair could be the number three entrant again.[/fantasy booking]

Man. Even if you limited it to just former world champions, they could easily fill a 30-man field. Always felt that they should've made the 2006 Rumble for the then-vacated world title rather than having Angle win that impromptu battle royale on Smackdown the same night that Batista vacated.

Nous ne nous pouvons pas sortir.
The Shield can't win without a turn from the face side, so begin the countdown to the premature break up of Hell No as D Bry joins his indy darlings in the Shield.

But actually the Shield will probably just job and have their momentum irrevocably destroyed.

The wildcard defector could be Randy Orton. Hasn't he been requesting a heel turn for awhile? This could be his chance. I know it's goofy to have a stable attack a guy and then a week later - "Aha! It was all a swerve! We're in cahoots, guys." but that's wrestling logic for you.

He sort of has for a while. He's more the Hogan to Ryback's Goldberg than you think.

Tommy Dreamer made the show completely worthwhile for me. I've always enjoyed him in the ring, but haven't done much in the way of looking at his life outside of the ring. He jumped up quite a few notched in my eyes after his speech about his Dad.
