I had not planned on getting a Wii U. Of all our systems, the Wii gets played with the least by a good bit. But the kid played it at Best Buy last week and decided it was his big Xmas wish. Luckily Target had started a late preorder deal so I was able to swing by the local store and snag the last one on Thursday.
I am pretty sure that Ninja Gaiden is a launch title for Wii U as well. Like Wmatistic, my Wii gets the least use out of my three consoles, so I can wait for Wii U until 2013. But I am strongly leaning towards using some tax return money in February/March on the console.

New Super Mario Bros. promised to return Mario and friends to their 2D roots. While the series has produced three solid platformers thus far, it's never really recaptured the old spark. The unbridled chaos of cooperative play in New Super Mario Bros. Wii is certainly fun, and romping around as a giant is novel, but nothing has compared with donning the cape for the first time, or being swallowed up by a hidden keyhole. With a few exceptions, the series has been, in a word, rote.
In this latest entry, however, that's all changed. In New Super Mario Bros. U, Mario comes closer to his glory days than he has in years.
I got to play one of these thingies. The local EB Games has a demo unit set up. Check your local GameStop if you want to try one for yourself.
There didn't appear to be demos of the new Mario game or NintendoLand, but I got to try a level of the new Rayman game. The graphics were nice, on par with the Xbox 360 (it helps that the new Rayman titles are very pretty games). You alternate between moving the character using standard controls (the stick and buttons built in to the GamePad) and using the touchscreen to manipulate the environment to allow a computer-controlled character to pass through it. Neat, but it didn't feel like a must-buy.
I will say that the GamePad was comfortable to handle (noticably lighter than an iPad) and I'm intrigued by some of the possibilities for unique multiplayer games and playing console games solely on the touchscreen. Regardless, I didn't preorder, so I'm sure that even if I had a moment of weakness (and who are we kidding, really), I expect that I won't be able to find a Wii U for sale until well after Christmas.

I believe so. Joystiq was only listing games that (are? might be?) available starting this past Tuesday. I'll find a full list of launch games and update the thread on Sunday.
