This show was a compelling argument for pirating WWE PPVs.
- Air Boom vs. Awesome Truth was fine until the awful finish. The champs kinda looked like big ol' losers here. Was amused by Booker T putting over his legendary team... with Goldust.
They need to hire Justin to just sit around all day and come up with team names.
- Rhodes and DiBiase died but they've kinda been booked as losers forever so it's no surprise that nobody cared about them. And DiBiase kinda looked like a chump at the end.
- The Christian interview, man. That poor bugger. And Sheamus looked like he should be tending bar somewhere. Also, it turns out that crappy John Cena "jokes" aren't any better when delivered in an Irish accent, fella. Testicles.
- The four-way was decent enough.
- Orton vs. Henry was them doing something right.
- Kelly vs. Beth was them doing something wrong.
Really, Henry and Kelly kind of have the same storyline going (although one gets mentioned on TV and one only exists in the minds of posters here). A relatively lengthy and not overly noteworthy career, overcoming obstacles, finally winning titles and becoming legitimate in the eyes of the fans. And nobody will confuse Mark Henry with being a great technical wrestler, but he works really well in the giant ass-kicker role. Kelly's cute and all but she sucks so bad at everything she does. Watching her on TV, I don't believe she's a scrappy underdog wrestler, I think it's a miracle that she doesn't paralyze herself when tying her shoes.
- Del Rio vs. Cena, are you fucking kidding me.
- Punk vs. HHH, what a goddamn overbooked Vince Russo mess.
Who's ready to do this all again two weeks from now?
Congratulations Mark Henry, I always knew you a World Champion in you somewhere. (Insert joke about him eating a World Champion here.) I am disappointed that he didn't kill Josh Matthews after the match.
What the fuck was the point of that Christian/Sheamus skit? It went nowhere.
I really liked the overbooking in the Triple H/CM Punk match. What else could they have done? You know Triple H isn't gonna lose to CM Punk.
Lastly, it was nice to see Kofi and Bourne come out wearing matching tights. Is this something new or have they been wearing the same colors and I just didn't notice before tonight?
Don't have a problem with how the main event played out, love Mark Henry winning the belt clean, but Cena tapping Del Rio....holy fuck what a terrible, awful, shortsighted, stupid move. Way to prove everybody right when they say the company is just putting out the same old shit.
You know I feel like I should change my username to the Prophetlotjx. I called Rock coming back early, I called last year that Nexus would fizzle out and as soon as I saw HHH getting involved in the Punk affair I told you, it would end in a fucked up way. Again, I am right. My last prediction don't go traveling in November, especially to the South. Invest in Star Wars vintage Moc figures.
All somewhat kidding aside. I have no idea what the WWE is doing. They take the belt from ADR due to ratings panic when they know for a fact that the ratings tend to get better after a PPV. I'm sure CRZ or Justin or someone has a chart. Plus, its the first Monday Night Football game of the year, what the fuck did you expect? Did they honestly think their ratings wouldn't take a hit or go up? I know people say Vince is delusional at times, but this is borderline Rain Man. It reminds me when Hogan came back to Nitro, because either Raw was taped or the US Open was on. The rating would go up and Hogan could point to that as he is a draw. It just screams political. I am with Amos, who would have thought those words would be typed out, I am beginning to question the person of John Cena.
I am happy for Mark, not happy for Kelly and at least they had a good tag team division story til the main event. There is zero reason for Miz/Truth to be involved in this storyline at this point. None of it makes sense. HHH giving Punk the Suck It at the end was just the dirt on the grave. Also, why the hell is Punk saving HHH anyway? None of it makes sense. The right way to do this match was for a no decision or just have Punk kick the shit out of everyone. HHH is a part time and I am being generous here worker. He is not Undertaker and this is not Mania. He should not be going over and then pissing on Punk at the end. If this is what we can expect with HHH in charge of things then get ready for a steady stream of blandness and illogical booking. Punk needed to kick ass and take names, yes he did kick out of finishers, but he needed to win and leave everyone bloody or at least need as an equal to HHH. Cena gets to do this shit why not him if they trust him to be a star?

You don't finish the story on the first page. Obviously this isn't the conclusion of Punk/HHH - the people advocating Punk simply kicking everyone's ass and ending it all in one fell swoop want things just as rushed as, say, Punk coming back from quitting eight days later. I don't particularly like Punk losing here, but he was more protected than the average Undertaker loss and they're clearly not wrapping things up just yet.

Lots of people were saying this, including the dirt sheets.

The angle ain't over yet, they're obviously making this go longer than most.

Actually, it makes perfect sense.
Originally posted by Me in the Prediction ThreadThe Awesome Truth LOSE the titles*. That's the whole point of them winning the singles matches. Eventually, once the above conspiracy kicks in, they join that fray.
There's a reason they were talking up the conspiracy. They were going to get involved at some point.

We'll find out tonight. But it's obvious they need this to go onto Survivor Series, so they overbooked it with enough people and angles to last that long.
What if this angle has been planned by all involved? Some accounts have shown Punk, Triple H, and Vince are working together on plotting the course of the angle. If that's the case, expect a long term thing (which, I may add, people complain about.....the lack of long term booking).
*By lose the titles I meant lose the title match. I was tired and mis-wrote what I meant.

Punk v HHH Im surprised that you guys are surprised at how the Punk match was booked. In the results thread I said I didnt know who was going to win, cause I don't know wtf theyre doing with this "story" BUT who didn't expect run-ins (plural)? Really? Really?? really. Really? If anything I was expecting MORE run-ins.
Im sure a lot of the internet is crying about CM Punk being buried now, when unfortunately this is just another chapter in the increasingly convoluted story that has him headlining RAW every week.
Whatever, me & friends were pretty entertained by that match. Though as a writer, of course my thoughts were like, "fuck... what are you doing, guys?"
Henry v Orton A remarkably (for WWE creative) well told story, I was visibly shocked when I realized they had put Mark Henry over so squeaky clean. A very welcome surprise(?).
Christian v Sheamus FELLA (not a match) They actually made time in the PPV to say, "Hey remember these guys? They are important characters too... Christian is a bitch and Sheamus is a good guy now! Lol! Alright just wanted to let you know."
Cena v ADR Cena having 10 titles under his belt is just the latest symptom of how devalued the belts are in WWE. This move was so brain-dead that I'm wondering if they didn't clear ADR's visa problems so they just had to take the belt off him? Does anyone know? I just hope they aren't this BAD at booking, I guess.
Interncontinenyawn Z Z Z z z z There are so many words to describe this clash of titans. Though the phrase that keeps popping into my head is "charisma vacuum", for some reason.

No one was saying Rock was going to come back early until a few months ago, I called it after Mania. Again, it was a bit of a joke. To me the story is over. The entire point of this match was for HHH to defend the honor of his harpy of a wife and shut Punk up. He did. There is no other story here other than WTF was the point of all the damn run ins? Miz/Truth could have done something tonight about the conspiracy blaming HHH as the one behind the inevitable Nash run-in instead of attacking both guys in a match that has no DQ. What the hell was the goal? It can't be no COO HHH since they stopped Punk from pinning him.
Punk is now stuck with the loser position that will result in people seeing him as whiner. He can point to the interference, but its a non starter since both were attacked. He really has no leg to stand on. We still don't know what changes he wants and at this point, he can't do much about it. I would have liked to see Nash run-in and Punk finally end him. Not HHH taking out Nash, but Punk. Give Punk some creditability in being an ass kicker. I don't think anyone here is going to say the WWE made Punk look like a star last night which was what should, needed and pretty much required to happen.
Why should I care about the long story when they can't even do the short story right?

I love that CM Punk, guy who has done the sum total of three clean jobs this year, is now apparently stuck with a "loser" label. He's been put over stronger than anyone on Raw since June. They pretty much had to kill him last night to put him down for a three-count. He is not being sabotaged or buried or any other silly term.
Today, I removed WWE's programming from my PVR. I think last night's card killed my desire to be a fan. I recall when Christian lost the title after four days...well, I feel about ten times worse right now.
I hate WWE right now. Cena didn't need to win the title. HHH didn't need to win. WE didn't need to see Nash again. Yet we saw all three things/.
Not only is Sheamus obsessed with talking about animals, now he's named for one. I kinda like the moniker, but it clashes with with Celtic gimmick. Does Ireland have sharks?
I had read more than once that Nash couldn't compete because a movie shoot conflicted with the WWE schedule; insurance concerns held up his in-ring activity. But if he's gonna deliver powerbombs and take bumps, what's the difference?

Its not about the jobs its about perception. The Orton storyline this year did nothing for him, I believe a lot of people here called it the most one sided feud of the year. He had a series of great promos and surprise moments then he went back to the WWE, too soon. He doesn't beat Cena clean, gets outwitted by a senior citizen then loses the belt to a guy who can't even hold to it for a month. Spends a month getting outwitted by senior citizen and then finally loses a match to a guy who hasn't wrestled half a year.
It doesn't matter how many finishers he kicks out of. Its about how he is perceived and what the WWE has done with him. WWE has fucked this up. This match should have made Punk look like a star in beating one of the best in the business. Instead, all we are talking about overbooked it was and how illogical it all seems. We slam TNA for doing stupid shit all the time and WWE in this storyline has repeated TNA's mistakes. Hire an older guy to take out a younger star, check. Hire said older guy without checking if medically or for any other reason he can't wrestle, check. Build a storyline that includes rambling promos about why they are fighting, check. Have the match end with a bunch of run ins and no one is really happy, check. To answer Matt's question, its because Nash doesn't want to do the job to some skinny kid. That is why he is not going to wrestle or at least until its down the road.
WWE looked like god damn amateur hour out there with that finish. They have no idea how to do big unique things anymore. They are McDonalds, shoving out the same Big Macs and Chicken McNuggets, we all eat up then we wonder why we are bored to death or sick after a few weeks of eating it. Sure, they throw a McRib at us for a limited time, but thats all it is a limited time just like Punk. WWE is corporate America at its worst, chucking out the same shit day in and day out without ever trying to do anything new and when they do something new they find some way for the board or some empty suit to fuck around with it too much that it becomes damaged goods. Punk is not damaged goods, but I can't see in anyway this makes Punk into a star.

Lanny Poffo was pretty good. He put on a good match with Terry Funk on Best of the WWF Vol.6. Lanny pulled out the rana and moonsault. Meanwhile, Funk is overselling everything. Very interesting match.
