I probably should have stayed with my original thought of Punk vs. the world rather Punk vs. WWE, because you are correct WWE is HHH. Still, I do see Punk shooting on HHH only to eventually eat the pedigree of midcardom. I just don't trust creative let alone HHH with something like Punk. The worst thing they can do right now is take the belt off of Punk and give it to a guy who lost all of this steam after Mania. ADR should have stayed on Smackdown, because Miz, Punk and R-Truth have totally owned Raw. ADR is almost an afterthought until he shows up with the case. Also,

tedious:
1. Tiresome by reason of length, slowness, or dullness; boring. See Synonyms at boring.
2. Obsolete Moving or progressing very slowly.

Yep, that fits ADR/Cena right now and where I expect to head.

Yes, CM Punk re-signed with WWE just to be tossed back into the midcard like yesterday's garbage.

Not that I think it will happen, but it isn't unheard of for false promises to be made in wrestling. Pretty sure that Matt Hardy thought he would get a huge main event level with Edge when he came back or that Gail Kim thought she'd be the center of the women's division...

Like an Army recruiter, what you're promised verbally and what you actually get when you sign the contract aren't always the same. I have this vague idea that Punk might get punished for not re-signing right away or something like. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Based on the mainstream buzz and crowd reaction Punk has been generating for the past few weeks I have a tough time thinking he'll be thrown into the dog house, but that's just me.

They're not going to throw Punk in the dog house.

The danger, to whatever extent there is one, is that HHH has demonstrated the uncanny ability to convince himself and others that "getting beaten up by HHH," "verbally admitting in front of everyone on TV that HHH is better than me, then possibly getting beaten up by HHH" or "losing to HHH, losing to HHH again, getting a halfhearted victory where you win on a technicality, then losing to HHH again a little while later just for the hell of it" are all viable routes for furthering the careers of his colleagues and the company.

Again, given that I think Punk or HHH are trolling us all just a little on some of this specific doomsday scenario booking plan leakage, I take heart in knowing that Punk is too good on the mic to fall into Scenario B and that HHH probably won't work enough matches to set up a "three wins for me, .5 wins for you" series of confrontations.

My actual fear is that we get more of the Comedy Stylings of HHH where he tries to trade joke for joke with Punk so that he looks cool, too, and then comically oversells the offense of either Punk, Cabana or, most likely, Zack Ryder in that way that makes it clear that everybody knows the guy he's supposed to be getting over is a goof.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH

Chalk me up as someone else who thinks this won't go the "usual" route. I think they're media savvy enough this time to not mess up Punk, as the backlash would be pretty severe.

Nous ne nous pouvons pas sortir.
I think Punk had a pretty salient point on the BS Report when he said (I'm paraphrasing) that no matter how well things are going some people are going to scoff and say 'Well they'll just fuck it up next week'.

There is money to be made, and mainstream attention to be had in too big a way for us to be pessimistic. Maybe history hasn't given us reason to be optimistic but can we just stay neutral and un-bait our breath for a burial that probably isn't coming?

They were on "Superstars" last night, and "This Fire Burns" was replaced by a song called "It's All About Me".

Yeah, cause I'm sure they don't want the same backlash they got like when Helmsley pretended to be Kane and fuck a corpse or when Vince screwed Bret or the Billy and Chuck wedding or Muhammad Hassan's 'terrorist attack'.

...oh right, there wasn't any real 'backlash' to speak of from any of those events. ...because the internet doesn't matter to this company. We all just kept watching like business as usual.

Yes, the Vince screwing Bret incident sank without a trace and the Hassan angle had no effect whatsoever on Mark Copani's career. Truly nothing really matters, anyone can see.

One could argue that the backlash (and there was one) after Christian's sudden title loss led to him staying in the ME picture and in the end in regaining the strap and now having a "real" reign.

Like Durden said, Christian likely got a second shot at a title run due to backlash.

Ryder is on TV and has a new shirt (plus, as of yesterday, a new Internet Championship belt)/

Punk has returned.

Bryan won MITB.

You want to know what has made Raw so great lately?

No guest celebrity hosts.

When you make the wrestlers the focus of a wrestling show, it "gasp" actually works.

We don't have to listen to Michael Cole go on and on about Jeremy Piven and Dr. Ken and how The Goods opens in theaters this Friday. No Jackass backstage shenanigans. When the writers aren't forced to come up with stuff for the guests to do, they can focus on the rest of the show.

Wrestlemania 11 sucked and it had a bunch of celebrities.
Wrestlemania X-7 was among the best ever and had no celebrities that I can recall.

Motorhead was at WM X-7 and Limp Bizikit was supposed to play, but backed out. And yes, no celebrities has made Raw watchable in parts and less of the Raw GM has helped. I will say that I do miss Santino who has kinda vanished of late.

They are doing a good job of steering clear of the rut they were in for the past year of whoring guest hosts and Cole getting heat with the GM.

I REALLY hope Cole goes to SD to further the change. He was entertaining during the Lawler feud, but that was milked too long and then went back to business as usual. Still think he'd make a better manager than an announcer...

Someone made a good point last week when they said they should have used Punk's absense to shake up other characters.

PWInsider has a story up that should make Oliver unhappier. (pwinsider.com)

In short, John Cena has now spent a combined 1028 days as WWE Champion (1133 days counting his two reigns as World Heavyweight Champion). Soon, Cena will eclipse Triple H's total combined days as WWE/World Heavyweight Champion of 1148 days.

The Champ has been here for a long, long, long time.

Remember how Nash said he would return for the Royal Rumble? Remember when he didn't make the Rumble, he promised a Wrestlemania return via WWE.com? We've heard little or no updates on his condition or on possible return dates.
