I missed the Henry steel cage thing, but saw him as he walked away from Show and got a glimpse of the letters on the back of his singlet, and for a second there I swore he had the letters "WMD" on his back. For some reason I thought it meant Weapon Of Mass Destruction. I then remembered he had WSM on his back, but the WMD has stuck with me.

And if I remember right, that singlet only came around when he started teaming with MVP, no? To match the MVP going down his back?

Yeah it definitely is a hold over from the MVP tag team. But you know, replacing it with WMD would be really cool. And a way better nick name than the Silverback.

I'm just gonna admit it, I just plain like Mark Henry. It's not his fault they book him like a wrestler and not an attraction.

WMD is also the name of Big Show's knockout punch (apparently).

Maybe Punk fulfills a life-long dream and gets his revenge on Dwayne by joining the cast as an agent of Cobra? He'd make a good Firefly.

Or he can be the new Commander since apparently JGL ain't coming back, sadly.

Did he say anything that wasn't already posted in this thread?

Actually, let me rephrase.

Did he say anything that wasn't already posted in this thread that needed to be said?

(I know, I know, I'm just jealous.1)

1At one time, I was a prominent wrestling writer for WrestleManiacs and, later, WrestleLine, a website started by SportsLine USA which later bought WrestleManiacs in 1999. SportsLine would later shutter WresteLine in 2001, less then six months after I declined their offer to continue, and two months after a redesign which included (at my request) removal of all my archived content. I always considered WrestleLine's closure to be interesting timing. Anyway, that was over a decade ago.

I applaud your co-opting of the footnotes style of Grantland. I actually find it amusing that it's applied throughout the entirety of their site to all their writers, as Simmons was overly fond of it in his books. And if you read the site on your mobile phone, you can click on the footnotes and they jump down to the bottom of the page!

OK, enough discussion of editorial styles, let's get back on topic and debate the definition of Straight Edge...

Wow, we agree on something.

Mark Henry has the potential to be a monster heel like Vader was back in the day, but the WWE just can't seem to find anything better for him to do than knocking up Mae Young or feeding him to the rest of the mid-card.

Why couldn't they give him the Kane spot in a Royal Rumble where he destroys half the roster.

Forget it Josh... it's Cerebustown.

Mark has a really limited moveset, and his best move is the Chocolate Mousse.

He's getting a great push here. I just wish he had something new to show us. The cage stunt only reminded me of Lashley/Umaga.

-Mark Henry is like Kane in my eyes. Both guys are midcard for life, but about once a year will be given a six week reign as worldbeaters.

-And speaking of Kane, is there any more overly used plot device on RAW than having a wrestler face KANE~! as this big punishement?

-Raw Roulette COULD be a great gimmick, but even back to the days of "Spin the Wheel Make the Deal" in WCW, it has been blown potential. Put only 7 or 8 choices and make them all good instead of crap like "Pillow Match" or Lumberjack matches (Seriously has a Lumberjack match EVER drawn?).

+1 - Kane and Mark Henry both do deserve more credit then what they get. Both are big men with long careers who have done any job they've been asked of them. You never hear rumors or backroom complaints about them either. They are reliable and rarely get hurt. Kane is certainly a hall of famer and Mark Henry probably is one also, although neither one of them will be "head of the class" when they get in.

I like this version of Mark Henry, a real monster right now, and I know it won't last long, but for now, it's a good angle that is growing on me.

It took twelve or more years, but it's finally nice to see Mark Henry get a little love from this place.

I wish. If I were him I would drop the whole Team Bring IT stuff. I would probably tweet about the self delusional powers of IWC while joking about how fanboys thinking bad spelling is beneath while posting on a wrestling board.

Saying that Mark Henry has a "really limited moveset" is one of the most generous things I've heard in a long time. He has no moveset at all, just lumbers around, & doesn't even seem to be as legit powerful as he was before he turned 40. (I don't think it's too spoilerific to say: watch the next 2 Smackdowns, & get back to me about whether he really has any business working matches.)

On a completely different note ...

Did I miss a memo, or have I not been paying adequate attention?? When did Nunzio become a ref? Not sure whether it's a good thing that there are always a few people in the audience who recognise him. It almost feels like they'd rather not have people notice that.

They are indeed still taping Superstars at the beginning of both Raw & SmackDown shows. I guess we're supposed to be watching it online (Thursdays on wwe.com, apparently). Beth d. Gail Kim was really a pretty good match -- much better than the bimbettes they're putting on live TV. Chris Masters d. JTG -- I'm continuing to like the more easy-going Chris Masters. And, Zack Ryder (totally not over in Phoenix, save a couple of Broski & Woo-Woo signs) d. Drew McIntyre (Who did he piss off? But he's still more over than Zack.) in a short match.

During your commercial break before the Punk/Kane match (Not after the shoot promo, as the WWE & video comments say.), but CM Punk was keeping us entertained with an a capella rendition of the song "Chicago" (youtube.com). (You guys like Frank Sinatra? He liked Las Vegas. He liked Chicago better.) This was pretty damn awesome. :-)

The Tornado whatever match with Miz & Swagger vs. Rey & Riley was great fun, in spite of my early skepticism. Miz & Riley work very well together, & Rey is awesome anytime with anyone.

Cena & RTruth playing with tables was a nice lead-in to the Punk shoot.

Not just the camerawork -- it was even better live! Impeccable timing.

And then that Punk shoot was incredible. I wasn't at all sure whether that was going out to y'all, or whether that was just for us in the building. It was pretty much the best non-wrestling thing I can remember ever seeing on WWE.

Cole did announce to the live audience that Punk is suspended indefinitely. And, yeah, the look on Cena's face was definitely ... something. And that was the end of our *first* Raw of the night!

-------
p.s. I'd planned to do a "live spoilers" thread for the second show, but it sounds like everybody who's into that has pretty much gotten their spoilers elsewhere already. (That's what happens when I got to busy going to 2 SmackDown tapings on Tuesday & Wednesday -- no time to type!)

I finally saw the Batista vignette and it was pretty good. Hopefully, he'll have a major role on Raw, and not on Heat. I bet he'll squash Spike Dudley in his first Raw match.
