By the way, CM Punk said that he's not in the signature that's produced at the start of the show, but in the VTR I saw him at least four times, so that argument doesn't really hold weight. (I'd still like to see a greatest-hits DVD, though).

I believe he was talking about the generic "WWE" one that plays at the start of each show, not the Raw opening montage. I don't think he's in that one, yet Jericho is, among others.
I'm not necessarily a CM Punk fan. The whole straight edge thing is stupid to me and having that as your 'character' just made me ignore him, for the most part.
Over the past year or so, around Royal Rumble 2009 I think, I started getting him and thought he was just 'ok' with flashes of brilliance every now and then. If he stopped being the 'straight edge asshole' and just be a regular guy, I'd probably like him more. Getting him away from the SES and giving him Nexus was a huge step in that direction.
Last night, fuck man... that shit was like watching Mick Foley give his Cane Dewey promo in ECW. That shit had me glued to his every word.
How is this gonna end? Is he really leaving? Maybe. What I'm guessing is that if he really is leaving, Let him beat John Cena at the PPV. Have Vince send out the Smackdown MITB winner to face him and have Punk beat him also. Who ever wins the RAW MITB match then comes out and beats Punk. This will give them an maga face champ to work with and get Cena off TV for a little while until time to bring him back to start the Wrestlemania build. This is what I want to see.
I'm shocked that USA didn't step in sooner and take action. I mean, there was a man masturbating on live TV for, what, ten minutes or so. Their Standards & Practices folks were sleeping on the job.
I want to see Punk win the title, but then break his promise and show up one last time on RAW decked out in a three-piece suit, showing that he finally learned the champion's dress code.

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon suspends CM Punk June 27, 2011 Tags: Raw: June 27, 2011, CM Punk Monday Night Raw’s abrupt conclusion last night was not due to technical difficulties. The decision to suddenly end the broadcast in that manner was made by WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon, who gave this quote to WWE.com:
“CM Punk was suspended indefinitely for his unprofessional conduct as soon as Raw went off the air.”
With his WWE contract expiring on July 17, one can only assume that this suspension effectively terminates CM Punk’s tenure with WWE.
Those fuckers. Between this Raw, that ending, and all this after-Raw stuff, they finally sucked me back into wrestling.
EDIT: This is the same feeling I had back when the Matt Hardy/Edge/Lita stuff went down back in 2005/6? It was all worked shoot stuff, like this, and I ate it all up then as I am now.
(edited by Zeruel on 28.6.11 0031)
I just hope they don't screw this one up with Punk coming out in a Vince McMahon limo on RAW after MITB. Unless he is the corperate champ. That was so stupid for Mr. Anti-WWe Hardy to accept a contract and be driven into the arean in a limo.

So you think everyone should do drugs?
No.
The 'guidelines' for being straight edge are no alcohol, no tobacco, no drugs, no promiscuous sex and you gotta be vegetarian. I got no problem with any of this really. The problem is the reasoning for it.
'Straight Edge' cam about because the under age punk kids were not allowed into all the good concerts and night clubs due to the sale of alcohol and the potential threat of violence to minors. Once these minors 'grow up', there is no point to labeling yourself this. You are an adult, you can do whatever the hell you want. Choosing to still live like a child an an adult group of people just makes you look like an idiot to the adults of that group. Go to the bar, enjoy your punk music with a nice cold beer and slam dance the night away.

You don't really know what you're talking about, and a wrestling forum isn't the place to discuss it. K thx.

Really? I must have hit a nerve there chief. I know exactly what I'm talking about cause I lived it.
I was just like that when I was younger. The whole straight edge lifestyle started about in the late 70's/early 80's punk scene. Parents didn't want their kids around drunk older people so clubs and concert halls were forced to start putting on 'all ages shows' where the younger generation of punk fans could go see the groups they liked without drunk assholes all over the place. Promoters wound mark our hands with large X's. The group Minor Threat even did a song about it. That was way back in 1981... probably before you were born. CM Punk would have been 2 or 3 years old, so he's just a johnny come lately himself.
Anyway, before my 21st birthday, I never touched alcohol or tobacco, did drugs... any of that. Just like most of my friends however, once we were legal, it was all downhill from there. It's like this with most people in that scene; they're all 'straight edge'... till they can do it without the parents killing you or until you go to the bar and buy it yourself. It's called growing up.
Most adult straight edge people just choose to continue living the life. They aren't assholes who look down on you for not being like them. They don't really even care. Punk's character has taken this small lifestyle choice and took it to the extreme. "I'm better than you because I don't drink or smoke or do drugs." That's his character. His extremeness comes and goes depending on if he's a heel or a face. Remember when he toasted with Austin with his Coke can? He was just being a normal guy then.
If you want to get technical, he isn't really straight edge anyway. You've heard the stories about how he fucks divas left and right. That's not following the code! Oh Snap!

Just because you "lived it" doesn't mean you understood it. And without contributing too greatly to the hijack...

It had nothing to do with parents or promoters wanting to appeal to underage kids. I mean seriously... there's practically an entire genre of film dedicated to high schoolers getting loaded at rock shows in the 70s.
The bands and fans wanted to non-drug and non-booze shows as a direct rejection of the heavy drug and alcohol abuse that was prevalent throughout the punk scene at that point (among other reasons, I'm sure). Minor Threat was one of MANY acts that subscribed to that lifestyle choice.

I'm 29 years old. I don't drink, even when going out with other people. I didn't even drink at my wedding. I don't do drugs either. What does that make me?

Someone who doesn't need a label to validate the abstemious decisions he made in his personal life?

Please tell me that you at least engaged in promiscuous sex on your wedding night!! ;-)

The kind of person that Adam Ant just doesn't understand.
Whattaburger, are labels an inherently bad thing? Yes, people can get caught up in them. But it also can help promote community and a sense of identity.
Hokienautic, I didn't until a week or so after the wedding (I'll spare further details).
Mike, it's certainly saved me money!
BACK TO WRESTLING FOR A MOMENT:
I've been re-watching the Mark Henry stuff the last couple of weeks, and man that guy is something else. And I like the little touch of the World's Most Strongest Man ripping a steel cage door off then using it as a weapon.

The "news" trickling down through the WrestleZones of the world is that, while the general tone of the promo was agreed upon, none of the content was preapproved and Punk was essentially given the go-ahead to say whatever he wanted until he got cut off. Pinch of salt and all that, but IF treu that's soem huge balls on both Vince and Punk.
He's shooting GI Joe 2 so it took him a couple of days, but Dwayne (twitter.com) shot his response to Punk on Twitter just now:
@TheRock Dwayne Johnson CM Punk: it's simple business - The Rock is the main event at Wrestlemania cause it draws more money in one night, then u will in lifetime.

According to the birth date in your profile, you would have been eight in 1981. Were you X'ing up for recess?
I learned a long time ago to not bother trying to justify or explain the way I live my life to people who can't talk about it without being condescending. I could easily go point by point on that mess, but I don't think CRZ would appreciate it, kind of the way I don't appreciate Cerebus not being able to mention CM Punk without making snide off topic remarks about people who are Straight Edge. All I'll say is this:

Nailed it.
BACK TO WRESTLING, THANKS.
edit: Cool, we already did. Yes, Mark Henry is being used magnificently right now. Unfortunately, I don't know how that can translate into a match, unless they go no DQ right off the bat so he can incorporate his strong man feats.
