Very sad. I thought he was awesome; DDK was the best thing on WCW in 2000.

Chris Kanyon dead at the age of 40, likely due to suicide.
Oh damn. I always enjoyed his work and was disappointed when his prominent place in the Invasion angle didn't lead anywhere, and when he ended up out of the business afterward. Kanyon was a good worker and a funny guy with the mic.

And the epidemic is probably greatest among gays. I don't know anything about how he grew up, but it seems to me that it's pretty likely that he faced a lot of anti-gay bigotry (much no doubt from people who had no idea that he was gay) and that this was a factor in his death, just based on the higher rates of these problems among gays. I don't want to get into stuff that's off-topic, but it makes me blood boil.
Who better than Kanyon? Nobody! I'm so sorry to hear about this.

I respectfully disagree to an extent. From a psychological stand point, you may be correct. People who are persecuted (not just gays) will suffer from psychological depression. This also happens in a little place we call "high school" if you're not in the Alpha Pack. In those cases, you'd get the standard treatment of seeing a psychologist or some form of non-medicated therapy to assist your mind
In this case, however, it seems as if that Kanyon had psychiatric depression, which meant that he had a chemical imbalance in his brain. Regardless of sexual orientation or traumatic events (although traumatic events don't help any and complicates things) he required medical attention in addition to therapy. Psychiatric depression is Serious Business, and I think is not given enough attention by the main-stream media.
Sadly, it might take more deaths for people to fully understand what's going on. And that's what is truly tragic.

You beat me to this exact statement. Last I heard of him was being down in south Florida attending a WWE show where he did the sign guy gimmick until security kicked him out. Basically protesting his release. I didn't know he was gay, nothing against this orientation, either until after his release from the promotion.
Truly sad, kind of reminds me of the Renegade story after his career in WCW.
2/3 of The Triad are now wrestling in the heavens.
Dammit, that's too bad. And I think a big reason why depression is such a horrible disease is that sometimes it takes a LOT of outside factors to improve. Even if you're on medicine, you still may hate your life, lack of job, lack of love life, being hurt by someone important to you, etc. So it's probably always going to be a cripple in society. This is really shitty though if it turns out to be depression-related suicide.
Very sad. Just learned from it frm seeing HUrricane's tweets, and read them in reversed order. After seeing Kanyon's name 2 times I skip down to see what I feared. He passed away.
A good performer. From his start as Mortis, to kanyon-cuttering everyone, to being a BADASS team with Raven..(and hilarious promos...hahah..Ver-sage!) he was great to watch.
I'm sad that his life was so hard that this was his only way out.
No. I loved Kanyon and Raven aka "Villano Killers"......ok, that may of seemed inappropriate at this time but it's his legacy. Man, Positively Kanyon reigned supreme.
I remember in WCW some guy cut a promo and walked off camera. Seconds later the camera drops to the floor then Kanyon (with curly blonde wig) rolls in front of the screen, does the Diamond Cutter signal, "BAAAAAAANNNNNNGGG!!". First Person Diamond Cutter!
Then there was Kanyon and Raven hanging at Raven's mansion, where Sandman makes a cameo before debuting (and some suprisingly diverse acting by Sandman by the way). I have a shoot interview where Sandman and Raven recount Kanyon over-doing a flip bump into the pool during that segment, so it seems they were fond of him at least in WCW.
Sad, sad, sad. Who could have imagined he'd be so entertaining arriving in the Glacier angle? The variations of the Flatliner were the highlights of WCW some weeks.
Always liked watching him.

That's if you believe he was really gay. The gimmicky way he 'came out' seemed very suspect to me, and he really seemed to be trying to turn that into publicity to get back into WWE. Always struck me as an odd way to go about it.
Regardless, good creative performer (I will never forget seeing him piledrive someone off the buckle in WCW) and truly very sad he wasn't able to get the help he needed. As someone who has witnessed a suicide (albeit that of a stranger), I can't believe it's just "the easy way" out. It's a serious problem and we as a society need to pay more attention to it.

He did claim it was a publicity stunt at one point. Then he went back on that, so who the hell knows. It wouldn't surprise me if he was bipolar, and even though he hadn't really gone off the rails until after WWE sacked him, I wonder if mental health evaluations are/will be part of the wellness program. Certainly a unique and creative performer, to say the least.

He did show up in TNA, very very briefly -- maybe even just one show? -- four or five years ago.
Sad story all around. He did some nice stuff, particularly the DDP angle.

...and yet Jake "The Snake" Roberts is still with us.
Not trying to make light of Kanyon's situation, as he seemed to suffer some real mental health problems. I didn't really watch enough WCW to have many memories of him. RIP.
In an age where pro wrestlers are barely making it to 40, Roberts, who has drugged, drank, and lived harder than all, appears to have nine lives, maybe ten.
They were able to find 20 minutes of "high"lights from the Diva search? The only part of it that didn't suck was when the ther girls all called out Carmella D for being a cocksucking whore.
