So, the new reason Tough Enough failed wasn't the ratings it was de-mystifying the business.
So in what way did Tough Enough fail? How many shows run on MTV for more than three years? It did good ratings on MTV, especially at a time when wrestling was cold, and it made a few midcarders. Some of them were good, some of them weren't. Two of them comprised one of WWE's best acts of the last few years, another one became the lead announcer on a weekly television show. Taylor Matheny was there. All good stuff.

I know it's pure speculation (either that or homerism, as the guy grew up 45 minutes from me), but I think Matt Cappotelli could've been big too if he didn't have health issues that held him back. | lotjx

From the NXT press release WWE and Syfy put out:
"WWE NXT is a hybrid live event/reality show featuring eight well-known, popular WWE Superstars mentoring eight WWE “Rookies.” These Rookies, who are learning the ropes, are athletes who epitomize pop culture and personify strong attributes – they are opinionated and aggressive – which means inherent conflict between Rookies and other Rookies, conflict between Rookies and Pros, as well as, conflict between Pros and Pros. The trials and tribulations of the WWE NXT cast ensure action-packed, innovative entertainment – WWE Style."
There will be Superstars on the show. At least 8 Superstars, one paired with each Rookie.

I'd say part live event, part reality show. So still some arena stuff, and some reality stuff.
(Live event doesn't necessarily mean live broadcast; Smackdown is a live event. Hell, house shows are live events, just with no cameras.)

Agreed. Or, even worse, if we have to sit through weeks and weeks of some Bob Holly-esque stiff trying to be a bully on national TV and trying to tell Bryan Danielson that "he doesn't know how to work."

| #29 Posted on 16.2.10 1818.41 | Instant Rating: 2.37 | I gotta say this kinda sounds like Tough Enough: Champs vs Scrubs Edition, but it has some differences from that show that sound interesting.
First of all, this isn't some elitist elimination contest where the contestants dreams get shattered once a week. Every new Superstar is already a WWE employee, and making their television debut in a unprecedented way. So If you get use to one you like you don't have to worry about them going anywhere.
Secondly, people love reality shows in this day and age unfortunately. It's a great way to convert new people to wrestling who might not of watched it before since it shows the future superstars as real people trying to break into the big show (no pun) instead of over-the-top violent cartoon characters, which will make them seem more relative.
Thirdly. Skippidy-doo-dah Kaval and Bryan Danielson are finally debuting! I'm with the concensus of seeing Danielson trained by Regal or HBK also. I could give a crap about the other scrubs. | El Nastio

MVP with Skip Sheffield is some booker's idea of punking MVP, that's gonna be must see TV. Carlito with Michael Tarver will be a trainwreck. Christian/Heath Slater is the best pairing next to Jericho and Barrett. CM Punk with Darren Young.. I do think Darren likes the party lifestyle so that will be great. No idea who Otunga is but I hope he can rap cos thats all R-Truth can really pretend to do.

Yeesh, who names these guys?
I'm curious as to how they're handling these mentor/student relationships, as I can't quite figure out if they're going to be doing this in character or not. Like is this a reality show within the WWE "Universe" or something, as indicated by giving the "rookie's" WWE names and saying the show can cross over into Raw and Smackdown?
Danielson and Miz seems like a pretty good pairing tho, as it's a situation where both guys can learn from the other.
