My deepest sympathies to his family and his fans. He was an awesome QB and was way better than I expected he ever would be coming out of college (I just didn't think he had played against good enough talent to have the hype he did), and was glad he proved me wrong. Sad and shocking news to be sure. RIP.

I remember McNair back from the days when Colts fans hated the Titans, and Titans fans hated the Colts. A very good quarterback who had a few truly great seasons, and made the Titans really something special. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends, and to the Titans and Ravens organizations.

Sad story. Turned out to be a much better QB than i thought he would be coming out of college. Thought the Air McNair stuff would just be SI hype. Don't think he was a Hall of Fame QB, but a very good QB.

Been searching for couple days for the right thing to say. It hurts to see someone you rooted so hard for go down like this. Everyone should just try to remember how charitable he was in the community and how good he was on the field.

I've said it here before, but the final drive of the Super Bowl against the Rams was legendary. Dyson came up one yard short but the drive was literally all Steve McNair. 48 yards in the air 14 yards on the ground, an impossible escape from Kevin Carter, incredible poise and leadership. One more yard and he is remembered with Montana. And remember, this was the year he was booed during the first regular season game ever played in Nashville. Booed while coming back into the game after being hurt. Booed while putting up 340 yards and three td's. Cheered while leading the game winning drive that same Sunday.

That's the Steve McNair I remember. Unflappable. Indestructible. And more clutch than he ever got credit for. Rest in peace man.

Police: McNair shot dead in sleep by girlfriend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Former NFL star Steve McNair was shot dead in his sleep last week by a 20-year-old girlfriend distraught about mounting financial problems and her belief that he was seeing someone else, police said Wednesday. Investigators may never know why Kazemi shot McNair four times as he dozed on a sofa early Saturday before turning the gun on herself, Police Chief Ronal Serpas said.

But interviews with friends revealed that she was making payments on two cars, her rent was doubling and she suspected the married McNair was having a second affair with another young woman.

She told a friend on Friday that "My life is a ball of s--- and I should end it," Serpas said.

After reading the entire story, I think we can all learn something from this.

Men, as great an idea as it may sound like...don't shack up with just any 20-year-old crazy lady.

If you are a multi-millionaire have your agent or one of your people find a good professional service to satisfy your needs.

I'm a 32 nobody and I can tell you my world experiences are way different than a 20 year old Dave and Busters waitress what the fuck is a 36 year old former MVP NFL franchise QB thinking shacking up with such a girl? Good sex is great, it's amazing and it can blind a man like nothing else but even I would be embarrassed to be in such a serious relationship with such a young girl while in some kind of other relationship ... and McNair met the parents? Who the fuck are these people?

This is just an amazing story to me. I have no problem with a guy trying to get a piece of ass, but c'mon man use a little common sense.

So ... is everyone who works at Dave and Busters (whatever that is) likely to kill someone in their sleep, or is it only the 20-year-olds?

I agree that McNair shouldn't have been with this woman - who wouldn't agree, knowing what we know now? But it's not because she worked at Dave and Busters.

Think Chuck E Cheese, but for adults. There is sit down dining, a few bars, pool tables, a midway full of arcade games and games that spit out tickets.

There are two of them here in the Baltimore-DC area. One used to be a Jillian's, so that DNB has bowling under black lights.

I'm not saying it was because she worked at D&B either and I think you probably know that. My point is you have a 20 year old girl whose biggest moments in life might just be finishing highschool, getting a job as a waitress, and meeting an NFL QB.

Then you have a 36 year old former number one pick in the NFL, a multi-millionaire who is known worldwide among football fans. A man worshipped in some states as demigod, of course this girl is going to be star struck. This is an age when girls fall over themselves for the captain of the junior college football team.

We all know famous guys have been getting with hot young girls forever now. McNair just took this a few steps further and was basically a live in boyfriend. Should he have expected to be killed, probably not. Should he have expected this to end well ... to me it's one of the all time blunders in steamy affairs.

And *my* point is that you inferring this from the fact that she's a 20-year-old waitress is fucking stupid.

She obviously had some kind of emotional issues that she couldn't handle. That doesn't mean she was the deadbeat loser you assume she is based on the fact that she's a waitress.

What happened here was terrible, but there's no need to extrapolate it and generalize a huge group of people because of it.

Problem is, it is the fantasy of most men having the chance to be a demigod to women and having women falling over themselves. What single guy wouldn't want to be in this situation???

Of course the key word here is "single". Was McNair separated or cheating on his wife? (Not that it really matters now anyway)

If he was separated, then he was doing what alot of older guys would do if given the chance to be able to hook up with attractive and much younger women.

If he was cheating on his wife....no way I'm going to say he deserved this, but that was a scumbag thing to do.

He was cheating. Millions of men without money and fame do it all the time. Women are a temptation for everyone. Let alone someone with tons of money and tons of fame, especially locally.

He messed up, probably wasn't the only time. What he did was certainly immoral, but it wasn't against the law and certainly not punishable by death.

Also of note, the nashville city paper is reporting today that McNair filmed a PSA about two weeks ago about suicide prevention. Ironic, or eerie, or whatever, but this man was involved in this community in so many positive ways.

...so are you guys saying I shouldn't shack up with the 20 year old girl I met recently? I already feel kinda funky being 6 years older, but if she might kill me, sheesh.

If McNair was smart, he'd have used a psuedonym, like Ron Mexico.

Sure - but that's not what the quote to which I responded said.

The original post said he should have known better because she was a 20-year-old woman working as a waitress at Dave and Busters.

I don't even know what this is supposed to mean or what your point is. I, obviously, was never a waitress - does that mean I shouldn't have a problem with people making negative, unfounded generalizations regarding waitresses? Or was there some other point buried in your wit?

Also, I *was* working in a restaurant at 20 years old. I don't think the highlight of my life was graduating from high school.

Which restaurant does she wait tables at?

(On the plus side, we'll know WHY you suddenly stopped posting if it comes to that. No, no, she didn't kill you - I OFFENDED YOU.)

I should probably work there yet putting up with the kids at Chuck E. Cheese is probably better than the drunks, even though most Chuck E. Cheese restaurants serve a two limit beer with there meals, at Dave & Busters.
