I think this is why - in the long run - he might regret going to the Yankees. On any of the other teams that were courting him, he would have been a higher profile player (even on the Red Sox). On the Yankees, he's far more likely to get lost in the shuffle. But this might just be some bitterness on my part...

As an Angels fan, I think it became fairly clear that he wasn't coming back by the first week of December. I think Moreno should have pulled the offer earlier, maybe even before Boston declared that they weren't "a factor". I also believe that Boras' intention all along was to position the Yanks as the only team that would pay that much for him. At this point, I think that's why he got traded to the Angels in the first place, but, again, bitterness blah blah...

I hate, HATE this aspect of MLB (or any other sport, for that matter), and it's largely why I try really, REALLY tune out during the off-seasons.

BucsFan, no, my point is not that money wins titles in baseball--my point is, it's an advantage. You still have to make good decisions, and you still have to get breaks, but money gives you more margin for error. If I were a fan of a small-market team, I'd be very frustrated seeing my team's talent heading to big markets so often, and knowing that my team will have to be very well-run and fairly lucky to make a good run or two, while the big market teams will be competitive at worst and will have the chance to be a dynasty.

Leroy, you're right that Tex won't be the center of attention in the Bronx. Whether he wants to be or not is another question.

He also might be referring to the fact that, including the World Series, the AL teams were 155-102 against the NL teams this year, which is a slightly larger sample size and includes more than two teams.
