All those chairshots and working a hardcore style can't possibly be a good thing. Andre Watters was the result of 16 games a year...who knows what happens when somebody goes through the same night after night...

That doesn´t make any sense, does it?

Following your theory Mick Foley´s wife and kids are in real life danger right now!? (Just one example)

It makes PERFECT sense. Just because every hardcore wrestler hasn't done something like this doesn't mean it is impossible for to be a factor on occasion. Think about it in other areas of life. Some people can do heavy drugs for 30 years and stay alive, while other people drop dead the moment they take the first snort. Bodies react differently to same circumstances.

The brain is a fickle thing. One shot in the wrong place can cause the tiniest injury, and that injury can grow and compound over time, getting worse and worse. To say that this can't be the case with Chris because Mick Foley hasn't done the same thing is extremely short-sighted. Right now it is possibility.

-He said it is being reported he suffocated his wife and son, perhaps a day apart. And then hung himself. Late Sunday night, he sent a strange text message to a person within the WWE. The police broke into the house at 2:30 pm today and found them in separate rooms.

-Hardly anybody backstage really knew Benoit. He had a very small inner circle that one time included Eddy Guerrero and recently included Chavo Guerrero. But even they had a certain psychological distance from Benoit. Everyone could tell that something wasn't right lately with Benoit.

-A lot of steroids were found in the Benoit household, and Benoit has had bouts with "roid rages". WWE may suffer publicly because of their unenforced "Wellness Policy".

      - The person who received the strange text message was in fact Chavo Guerrero, and Keller also mentioned that they're dropping the Mr. McMahon angle and probably won't do anymore Benoit tributes (that is, no more tribute shows - may still do the birth-death dates and picture opening on ECW and Smackdown)

If this is true then I don't know how to feel, outside of overwhelming sympathy for Chavo and for Daniel Benoit's grandparents.

And the bit about steroids is interesting. I'm wondering whether WWE may try to completely whitewash their history with Benoit in their efforts to distance the company from him, and terrified that they may attempt to exploit this with a "Self-Destruction of Chris Benoit" DVD.

As expected, Colin Cowherd on ESPN radio is using the occasion to bash wrestling fans, calling them "booger eaters who live in their mom's basement" and "lead paint eaters".

I guess the 28,000 emails and calls ESPN got over his Eddie Guerrero rant don't matter.

The man is certainly entitled to his opinion of wrestling and the people involved.
I don't know why he needs to be such an antagonistic jerk about it, only 24 hours after the death.

This story is a little more complicated than Joe Wrestler took too many steriods and painkillers and died young.

So what? Not that we know the truth yet (if we will), but my point is: This has little to do with wrestling, and has lots to do with: this crap happens DAILY. There's a case of it going on right now here in Louisville, (happened Sunday), and I was checking - there were somewhere around 30 murder-suicide cases in the US over the weekend. Several of them involved children.

It doesn't have anything to do with Chris being a Face (and he's been a heel in the past) or Austin being a face.

My only wrestling concern is if performance enhancing drugs are involved - because people will naturally say "Oh, yeah, it happened because of Roid rage" or whatever.

My god in heaven...that was fast.

I was hoping that if any possible good would come out of this entire tradgedy, no matter how small, it would be McMahon taking a serious look at his "Wellness Policy" (ie. firing people) and finally doing something about the steroid problem that has plagued his industry for so long.

Benoit's 24/7 Online link goes to "Not Found."

I too have been lurking a while. I think enough has been said and while I'm sad about the whole situation, I'm not nearly in the states that some of you guys are, so I don't have anything different or much to say.

I will say, however, that this is incredibly surreal. I was at a friend's house and I was like, "Oh, I gotta watch wrestling-change the channel!" And because his channel button is wacky, he skipped wrestling and I caught a glimpse of Edge's promo. At first I thought it was the McMahon thing and thought they were taking it waaaay too seriously, and I just headed home. And then I turned on my TV and saw the "Remembering Benoit" deal and was like, "No way." So I came to the ol' W board and there we go.

Weird, weird situation this is, I tell ya. I would really like to know the story, but considering the circumstances, it seems like we won't know anything more than we do already because all three witnesses are dead.

I am still interested in what these "instruments of death" are...

I'd make the obvious joke (re: Benoit DVD), but I don't have enough clout on this board to get away with it. Probably isn't the time, either.

AWARUlz, you are being deliberately dense. You might even be right. Sure, thousands of red-necks all over the world are right now strangling their kids and hanging themselves afterwards. Chris Benoit's work and lifestyle might have nothing to do with his mood at home. Great. But this is a board of long-term fans. CRZ stopped recapping YEARS ago. We are STILL here. ALL of us have seen dozens of wrestlers we have emotionally invested in, die. Why bother? As long as there is weekly show or two on TV, as long as there is a fresh supply of workers willing to live the same bullshit lifestyle, why bother? The only cause for concern is god forbid, something like this getting in the way of our weekly rasslin entertainment on TV. Right!

I listened to the update and he did NOT say steroids were found, it was a "what if" scenario he presented, as to how it would effect the Wellness Policy.

Probably for the same reason you don't see a lot of Hertz ads with OJ these days.

They probably don't want to be seen as profiting off of this tragedy in any way. They are already going to have to face the repercussions of this as it is, no reason to add fuel to the fire.

I'm going to give them a tenative pass on this, only because I suspect that the only way to have wiped Chris off the website so quickly would either be to (a) run some routine that removed "Benoit" or "Chris Benoit" from any mention, or (b) instructed some lower-level staffer(s) to work all night, and take every single mention of Benoit other than the current news update off the site. I would hope that regardless of what comes out in the end, there will be a way to honor Chris' contributions to the industry - no sane person does something like this.

For some reason as I was laying in bed last night (around 4am), I thought about how strange it was that Jake Roberts is still around after the last 15 years or so. This is just awful.

Possibly because one of their main-eventers is receiving widespread media coverage accusing him of murdering his wife and child, and they're trying to distance the company from him as quickly as possible to minimize the public-relations backlash?

Simple, law of nature of the situation. It's quite an ugly one at that. It seems with every passing minute the worst case scenario is true.

Would you like to know someone that suddenly had a break down and did something like this?

Granted this puts AWArulz posts in perspective.

This will be my last post.

I am not being dense. And, I am not denying that occupation had nothing to do with this: but it had no more to do with it that this one:

A drywall installer

or this one

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/23/nyregion/23slain.html?ref=nyregion

Handyman - killed daughters before killing himself

or this one

ah, crap, I am depressing myself

My point is: this crap I listed above all happened in the last week or so, most in the last couple of days. If this is all about wrestling then why is a drywall installer involved.

People snap. Look, I was a cop for some time. People can do some really bad things in that domestic situation - I am not justifying anything - not Benoit either - but I know people fricking snap and do things. I think we can safely say that is what happened unless we find some week old plans by him to do this.

I think we can also say this is a sad, sad situation, but I think, in light of the evidence of the commonality of this offense, that it is not a symptom of wrestling, but that the offender just happened to work in that field.

But, you are welcome to disagree.

I get your point. And no need to reply again.

But I do want all this to mean something significant to this industry. And if that means the US federal government or a senate enquiry, all the better. Ur senators can get scandalized by baseballers taking steroids and yet they still haven't noticed what a new york mainstream journalist has been ranting about all these years? :-(
Please note: I accept Awarulz' point that this really might have fuckall to do with Benoit's profession. But still.
(And to our discredit, WE have always tended to dismiss his views as biased). For the other journalists, the deaths do not even register because they genuinely donot know who the wrestlers are.
