That is the doctor that has since gone into hiding I believe. The one that the police have gone to search the office of a couple times now. I believe it was the Observer that said that they had to use a battering ram to get into the office.

From what's been released so far, he went there to either renew, or be prescribed, Xanax. An anti-anxiety drug that has some pretty bad side-effects, and seems to have black and white warnings NOT to be prescribed to anyone that matches Benoit's lifestyle given past drug (both recreational and prescribed) use.

"This might be hard for non-wrestling fans to understand, but to those who loved Chris Benoit's work, his grisly double-killing and suicide was as shocking as if Peyton Manning or Tim Duncan or Derek Jeter had committed the same acts."

I understand what the writer is trying to say. All the wrestling fans know what kind of guy Benoit was and the non-wrestling fans probably think we are just like these cult followers who are saying nice things about him just because we are fans and you can't express enough how out of character this was for Benoit. That being said, I don't think I would bring Manning, Duncan, or Jeter's name into a story like this, even for comparison sake.

Yeah, I read the Observer today. Those excerpts are indeed from it. WONs are mailed out on Wednesday and intended to arrive by Monday which is the cover date. He has written two issues this week though and the second one is dated Thursday.

Dave has a detailed explanation of how Chris killed himself, which is just ... rough. His belief is also the police's theory, that Chris killed Nancy in a rage after an argument, not a roid rage but stemming from mental problems brought on by a combo of steroids, depression, painkillers, recreational drugs, anti-depression meds, etc. Then Chris, having wrecked his own life, felt that Daniel would have an awful life without his parents and, in his warped state of mind, believed that killing him would be a merciful act.

WOW that Meltz guy sure is one sleuthy gumshoe! Why isn't he out devoting time to uncovering the truth about the Kennedy assassination! OR the Iraq War?!?! OR why you always have more buns than hotdogs!!1!?!?1/11/!?

Was this information released someplace else (and/or officially by an agency), or is Da Meltz just that resourceful/tactful of a "journalist?"

Benoit and Xanax

If it does come out, that he was prescribed and had taken Xanax on the friday before the episode as speculated... where do we go from there.

The list of side effects of that drug is eerie when looking at this case.

Psychiatric effects: Mental confusion, depression, irritability, nervousness, sleep disturbances, euphoria, lethargy, stupor.

Xanax treatment should be discontinued if any of the following occur: Hyper excitement, muscle spasm, anxiety, hallucinations, rage or other hostile behavior, tremors, insomnia, sleeping difficulties or over stimulation.

And reading the "if you suffer from this, do not take Xanax List, there is no way Benoit should have been prescribed this drug in my opinion, although i am not a medical professional.

Personality Disorder -personality disorder or a history of violent behavior.

Actually Dave's theories seem much more logical than Geraldo Rivera's and Nancy Grace's theories. Give Dave some credit for working to find the facts/research rather than just jumping to conclusions live some journalists have done.

I don't remember bringing up Geraldo (bom-bai-yay!) or Nancy Grace in my previous post(s). That might have been for a reason OR maybe just because I don't give them much credit either (i.e. NONE) and they had nothing to do with my statement to begin with?

All I'm saying is that for all the "inside(r) scoops" and "facts" WON gives out or Dave "researches" (sitting on the couch with the cell next to him?) you'd think the guy could have a very propsperous career as a legit journalist -- you know, uncovering important issues of national concern (not that the Benoit stuff isn't important to get to the bottom of, just saying).

He's doing what he loves, and it's probably easier to uncover scoops that deal with pro wrestling as opposed to White House misdeeds or prisoner abuse. People tend to be a little more loose-lipped over perceived trivial issues.

I really don't get people are having a hard time grasping Meltzer's knowledge of the case - the man's the foremost wrestling journalist in North America, maybe even the world. Him having contacts in the company and elsewhere isn't that hard to believe, especially given how frequently correct he is on more everyday wrestling news. People talk. Other people pick that talk up. It's what happens in the modern world.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

Whoa, you're the even sleuthier gumshoe. Why didn't any of us consider the fact that he made it all up for fun.

Being that Dave called it the police's theory and frequently writes "the police believe" throughout his story, I have an inkling that he spoke to ... THE POLICE, i.e. someone connected to the case. Or maybe he's just winging it on the detailed explanations of how the police think Daniel and Chris each died.

CAPITAL LETTERS?? I think we need to get someone on the Justin Shapiro 'roid rage case!!!

Seriously though, get over yourself, Justin. With no offense intended, you're just an internet mod. If you want to correct me or someone else, just correct them. You don't have to be such an ass about it ALL THE TIME! Even Zed doesn't lay it on as thick as you try with the "sarcasm."

I appreciate the correction, that's fine and I was wrong. I didn't know he didn't follow AP style (which isn't even the case or what I'm arguing because it's a matter of basic journalism standards). I assumed (and that was my mistake) that he did because he's so often referred to as a journalist. So, I thought 1 and 1, you know? My mistake. Secondly, I didn't see that you had posted a source or anything regarding that excerpt from him. I misread that you said his theory was the police's.

And considering a lot of people on here take his THEORIES about lots of things as the straight truth no questions asked, I don't think I was waaaay too off the base with what I thought.

Eh,whatever...

Why would Dave want to give up his current VERY prosperous career as one of the only legit wrestling journalists? If his circulation is around 8,000 (and I'm sure it's higher) that comes out to approx. $22,000 per WEEK. That's well over a million per year, and I'm sure his costs are nowhere near that.

Not only is this is a hell of a Tyler Durden impression on several levels, it's entirely worthy of a condescending response from Justin. In fact, I wish Justin had been a little MORE condescending. He's been giving a lot of people a lot of slack in this thread, which under the circumstances is understandable, but now it's bad cop time.

Folks, we're coming up on a week and 500 posts for this thread, so it's about time for me to reign in some of the more stupid folks who have already had multiple chances to show off their complete lack of knowledge, clue and/or insight (crimson) - so consider this fair warning and try not to get all pissy after I delete your response because you ignored me. If you haven't said your piece and still want to, please go right ahead, but if everybody on the board is well aware of your opinion maybe you don't need to share it for the nth time. The show is going on.

Is there a way you can clarify that a little more. I imagine the whole scene was pretty rough, so what makes this any different?

Sure. I guess what I meant was that I just wasn't expecting that much of a step-by-step blow-by-blow, at least not in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. As opposed to Nancy's death, which was obviously brutal but there's nothing much to say about it other than bound and strangled. But with Chris's, a lot of it had been left to the imagination.

Either Saturday night, or early Sunday morning, Benoit killed himself. He used the lat pulldown machine in his basement home gym, took off the bar, put a cloth around his neck, and then tied the steel cord around his neck. He stuck a pin in a heavy amount of weight, far more than his own bodyweight, and somehow or other, used his arms and the jumping of his bodyweight down to pull more than his weight down to where he hooked his legs around a heavy dumbbell (which was on the ground underneath him as he was hanging), which would have been enough weight to keep him down. He then would have likely spread his legs, and without the weight of the dumbbell, due to the gravity imbalance, the heavy stack of weight flew down, lifting him off the ground into the air, and hanging him to death.

Tonight on Observer Live, Dave talked about how it's now been said that the amount of weight on the pulldown machine was actually something like only 240 or 250 lbs, which is just a little more than Chris's body weight. As opposed to using a huge amount of weight which would pull you up suddenly, to hang with a smaller weight imbalance would be slower. Based on that, and the fact that his hands were free (when your natural instinct no matter what would be to save yourself), Dave's speculation was that he wanted to intentionally give himself a painful death.

To picture this stuff is just, you know. Chris was not the victim in this, but to be so despondent and (assumedly, or you'd prefer to assume) remorseful that you'd willingly go to these elaborate lengths to end your own life -- to say nothing about the kind of mindset where you would come to the conclusion that the best thing for your child would be for him to be dead and you'd have to do it yourself -- is really pitiable. I wouldn't say he's a sympathetic figure, because it's tough to have sympathy for someone who did the things he did, but I think he's an incredibly sad one.

I call B.S. on that one, sorry.

I posted WAY earlier in the thread about this before the facts came out, and now, it's just so hard to fathom what happened. All I do know, is that since this came out, my DVD copy of WrestleMania 23 arrived, and I watched that last Benoit match (for me anyway) with a weirdly detached feeling, whereas before I'd just acknowledge him as one of the greatest performers in that ring I'd ever seen.

Still surreal, a week later.
